Lilian's POV
The IV needle tore from my skin when I jerked my hand away too quickly. Blood immediately welled up around the puncture site, dark red against my pale skin.
Augusto stared down at my bleeding hand, his jaw tightening with what looked like irritation.
Panic shot through me. I'd made him angry again. I quickly pressed my other hand over the wound to stop the bleeding.
Ashley chose that exact moment to snake her arms around Augusto's bicep, molding her entire body against his side. Her smile was saccharine sweet as she gazed at me with false sympathy.
"Lilian, honey, did you need something from Augusto? Don't be nervous. He's such a sweetheart once you get to know him."
The sight of her pressed so intimately against him made my stomach churn. I couldn't ask him about coming home tonight. Not with her hanging on him like that. If I said anything that upset his precious Ashley, he'd never give me the loan. Worse, he might find new ways to make my life miserable.
