The next afternoon, after school.
[Queens, Midtown Science High School]
Looking at the energetic students all around him, Corin showed a trace of envy on his face.
Back then he hadn't studied properly, only knew how to go to internet cafés and play games, and later ended up in the line of work of doing triathlons.
Even though he got the title of "gold-medal rider," that kind of thing couldn't be compared at all with the status and honor gained from doing scientific research and pushing society forward.
Thoughts flew through his mind as Corin strolled through the elegant campus, soaking in the young atmosphere.
Suddenly his gaze froze. His sharp perception told him there was something off in the building ahead.
He quickened his pace and headed for the teaching building.
BOOM!
The huge Lizardman crawled out of a hole in the bathroom floor, smashing through several walls as he rampaged around, searching for Peter Parker.
Students scattered in all directions, terrified screams rising one after another.
Peter Parker shot Gwen a look telling her to hurry away, then pushed against the flow of people, running toward the Lizardman.
He knew the Lizardman in front of him was Dr. Connors. The last time he went to see him he had already noticed the lizard scales left on his neck.
"I have to stop him."
So he used agile footwork and ever-changing webs to tangle with him.
"Crap, I didn't change clothes!"
Right now Peter Parker hadn't put on his Spider-Man suit, so there was a risk his identity would be exposed.
As he was thrown into a wall by the Lizardman, a huge hole was smashed open.
A strand of web flashed past, and the backpack holding his suit was pulled through.
"All those lost souls wandering around, I can save them! I can heal them!"
"You shouldn't stop me… Peter."
The Lizardman was declaring the justification of his actions.
When Peter Parker appeared again, he had already transformed into Spider-Man. With a few nimble flashes he was riding on the Lizardman's back, "You're not thinking straight, Doctor! Stop! This isn't you!"
The struggle continued. Peter Parker tried to talk to Dr. Connors, but was met with the Lizardman's merciless attacks.
"Oh~ so gross!"
He threw away the half of the Lizardman's tail in his hand and, working together with the newly arrived Gwen, briefly managed to restrain the Lizardman with webs.
"I'm going to throw you down!", Little Spider said calmly as he held Gwen.
"What?", Gwen could not believe her ears.
"AHHH!"
A faint yellow figure was hurled out the window, and Gwen almost cursed out loud, "You really threw me, you jerk~"
As a strand of web accurately stuck to her body, Gwen's free-fall immediately turned into a swing.
This made Gwen Stacy's face flush red, and she shouted that it was thrilling.
The sound of alarms rose all around, and police cars gradually surrounded the school.
The commotion from the fight was massive, and the destruction severe. After the chemistry lab was wrecked, they ended up in the library. As the old librarian grandpa calmly walked out of the room with his headphones on, Corin finally found the Lizardman.
"Are school layouts really this complicated now?"
Complaining that this school was built like a maze and had made him waste so much effort just to find the main target, Corin grumbled while pulling out a throwing knife. His super vision locked onto the Lizardman at all times, searching for a chance to kill in one blow.
When Little Spider was once again knocked flying by the Lizardman and hit the ground, his head spun so badly he couldn't get up for a while.
"This is it!", A cold light flashed in Corin's eyes, and the throwing knife in his hand left his fingers.
Shff~
The titanium-alloy throwing knife, carrying fierce momentum, instantly pierced through the still-gloating Lizardman.
"AHHH!"
With a wail, half of the Lizardman's body was blown apart by the impact of the knife and he crashed to the ground.
"Done!"
Corin patted the nonexistent dust off his hands and turned to walk toward Little Spider.
Peter Parker felt a bit dizzy. As he struggled to get up, a long, slender, fair hand suddenly reached out in front of him.
Following it up, Peter Parker finally let go of the breath he'd been holding.
A perfectly fitting crimson suit, a silver mask, a devilishly charming smile at the corner of his lips.
'It's him!'
Grabbing Corin's hand and using it to stand, Peter was surprised to find that this person was really strong.
He himself hadn't even had time to use any strength before being lifted up lightly by him.
Forcing down the amazement in his heart, he looked around, "Where's Dr. Connors? Oh, I mean, the Lizardman."
Corin gave Little Spider's arm a light pat, "Relax, I've got this. He's over there—"
As Corin and Peter both looked over, all they saw was part of the Lizardman's remaining body: one arm, one leg, and one thick, heavy tail.
It was obviously not the Lizardman's corpse.
Corin's face immediately turned a bit ugly.
'Damn it! His body was blasted to pieces and he can still live?'
Little Spider noticed something off about Corin. While being shocked at his insane methods, twice now, and he'd never once seen clearly how he attacked, it was simply unbelievable. He spoke up to ease the awkwardness, "Sir, maybe you don't know yet…"
"The Lizardman's self-healing and regeneration are really strong!"
Corin sneered. If shattering his body still couldn't take his life, then that only meant one thing, the pieces weren't shattered thoroughly enough.
A cold gleam flickered in his eyes and he turned to leave.
As he was leaving, seeing Little Spider wanting to follow the Lizardman's trail and continue the chase, he reminded him, "His target is the Osborn Tower."
Peter Parker was determined to personally uncover Dr. Connors' goal. Even after hearing Corin's reminder, he didn't take it too seriously.
The Lizardman climbed up through the hole to the surface, with a tattered white lab coat hanging there, the "Osborn" logo printed on it, swinging back and forth in the gusts blowing up from the hole.
Having made up his mind, Little Spider leapt forward, and in the blink of an eye his figure vanished into the depths of the hole.
Corin's face darkened slightly. The Lizardman's escape left him a bit annoyed, but since he already knew his target was the Osborn Tower, he could just go there and wait for the rabbit.
———
"Even though 600,000 isn't much, there's still no reason not to take it."
Lost in thought, Corin unconsciously walked into a dark alley. Just then, Spider Sense warned him, and every hair on his body suddenly stood on end.
Corin's eyes opened a bit wider, and a line of bullets appeared in his super vision that slowed down to the extreme.
His body suddenly bent backward to an exaggerated angle, and the bullets flew past, grazing the buttons on his chest.
Only when the bullets buried themselves in the wall behind him did the gunshots reach Corin's ears.
Even though Corin already had Deadpool-level regeneration by now and feared no bullets at all, he still would not let some random average shooter touch him so easily.
With one sweep of his gaze, his eyes instantly locked onto more than a dozen enemies. They were spread out in the windows of different apartments in the buildings here, extremely well hidden, only short sections of gun barrels sticking out of the windows.
"Looks like an ambush."
Gunfire rang out again.
Corin vanished from where he was standing. His line of sight was blocked by the buildings, which made it impossible for him to lock onto the enemies, and the throwing knives in his hand had no clear targets, he couldn't just bring the whole building down, right.
Startled by the thought that popped into his head, Corin quickly adjusted his mindset, pushed down the irritation inside, and turned into a crimson afterimage as he rushed into the nearest window.
.
.
.
By the time the last enemy was thrown off the building, Corin's gloomy mood had eased, and he felt refreshed all over.
"I need to think of a way to deal with Obadiah. Just for the fact that he posted a mission to kill me, two million dollars, even I kind of want to accept it myself."
In the past nearly three hours, Corin had wiped out all the enemies in five nearby buildings.
That's right, there were plenty of them.
Each one had a gun, and they'd waged a guerrilla war with Corin, which made it impossible for him to use his full strength and forced him to take them out one by one.
After politely asking a few questions, he learned that all of them had come for Cockroach's head and that two-million-dollar bounty, but since they worried their battle power wasn't enough, they had specially formed a team.
"So they're treating me like a dungeon boss? Even forming a party…"
He looked up at the pitch-black sky, then took off at a run, heading straight for the Osborn Tower.
"I can't fu*king live like this."
Corin's complaining voice drifted through the air.
