Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Worthy of It

The tall body of the Lizardman moved agilely under his overwhelming strength, trying to dodge Corin's deadly attack.

Corin let out a cold snort, "If I let you get away again this time, then my sign as a bounty hunter can just be smashed for good."

He waved his hand, flicked his wrist, and threw the knives, eight-tenths power.

Ten streaks of cold light howled out, rushing straight at the Lizardman. The force of the wind they stirred up made Corin's hair whip and dance wildly.

The Lizardman despairingly realized that all of his escape routes had been sealed off.

In his panic, he tried to rip up a steel floor panel to block the attack, but it was already too late.

The supersonic throwing knives turned into deadly judgment, instantly piercing through every part of the Lizardman's body.

The originally huge Lizardman was riddled with holes left and right by the tremendous penetrating power of the knives. His arms, severed cleanly at the roots, hadn't even hit the ground before they were shredded by incoming cold flashes, until the final throwing knife turned the Lizardman's head into a cloud of blood mist.

Doctor Connors' miserable life officially came to an end.

Corin looked at the debris scattered all over the ground in front of him and revealed a confident smile, "Shattered like this, if you can still stand up again. I'll admit you're impressive."

At that moment, a strand of web stuck onto the launcher, and Little Spider arrived.

After Peter landed, he staggered and nearly fell. But after scanning his surroundings, he didn't see any trace of the Lizardman, only Corin.

Just as he was about to open his mouth to ask, he heard the warning sound from the launch device's countdown:

["Countdown 30 seconds—"]

["29~"]

["28~"]

["27~"]

["2..."]

Peter looked at the device and discovered that inside was the green gene toxin. Even though he was still guarding against a possible attack from the Lizardman hiding somewhere unknown, the situation was urgent. He could only choose to climb onto the launcher and remove the toxin.

"Catch~"

Inspector Stacey's voice rang out from the side, "This is a gift from Gwen."

Seeing the antidote flashing with fluorescent light, Peter's eyes lit up. But there was no time to wait for it to fly into his hand. He raised his hand, trying to shoot a web to pull the antidote back.

The web shooter on his wrist suddenly burst out a few sparks. It malfunctioned.

"Damn it!! Of all times, it has to be now!"

Seeing this, both Peter and Inspector George were thrown into utter confusion.

Suddenly, a streak of light flashed in both of their eyes. The antidote accelerated toward Little Spider like the black 8 ball struck by the cue ball.

It was Corin. Considering they might cross paths again in the future, he still lent Peter Parker a hand at the critical moment.

He threw a playing card, accelerating the antidote's flight.

Little Spider's eyes lit up. He caught the antidote, pushing his spider agility to the max.

Click! Click! Click!

He quickly opened the reagent chamber and swapped the gene toxin for the antidote.

["3~"]

["2~"]

["1~"]

BOOM!

A bright blue beam of light shot straight into the sky, exploding among the clouds and lighting up the entire city of New York.

Blue snowflakes drifted down slowly, like artificial rainfall.

Down below, the agents who had previously been infected by the green gene toxin saw their scale-covered skin rapidly return to its original color as the blue snowflakes fell.

Police lights were still flashing, but the alarms and gunshots were no longer noisy.

The blue snowflakes made the city of New York quiet.

And what calmed the panic in people's hearts was not the blue antidote serum, but two people.

Overwhelming cameras and broadcasting helicopters offered the entire city a visual feast with no blind spots.

Everything Corin and Spider-Man did was laid bare before the eyes of the people.

Everyone understood that this was not a movie, nor a drill, but reality happening right before their eyes.

People stood there for a long time, savoring those two heroes who had just saved everyone. Spider-Man and that other guy?

That's right, thinking of that elegant man who had conquered everyone with just a few brief scenes, people actually didn't know who he was.

This sparked an itch-in-the-heart, frustrating feeling in everyone.

———

A mansion somewhere in Manhattan.

Norman Osborn turned off the television, picked up a glass of red wine, and gently swirled it.

The blood-red wine before him made him think of that crimson, elegant figure, "I didn't expect that casually posting a mission would draw out someone like this. Seems I underestimated New York's underground world."

He picked up the phone and told his subordinates to raise the reward to one million dollars, and reminded them to maintain enough respect toward this bounty hunter.

After all, such a powerful figure could not be made into an enemy.

At that moment, an irritable voice sounded in his mind, ["Norman, it's time to put the plan on the schedule…"]

He frowned slightly. As a business genius, he didn't like this feeling of being interfered with at any time.

Crack!

The wine glass in his hand shattered.

———

On the rooftop of the Osborn building, watching Peter and Gwen ignore him and Inspector George as they embraced passionately, Corin wasn't very comfortable with this atmosphere. With his hands in his pockets, he turned his head and walked away.

"Wait."

Inspector George called out to Corin. He still couldn't accept his beloved daughter being close with another man right in front of him, so he shifted his attention to Corin.

"Oh? Inspector, what can I do for you?"

Corin was a little surprised. He didn't seem to have any dealings with this inspector.

"Thank you."

Corin smiled, 'So it was thanks~'

He casually waved his hand, "No need to be polite, Inspector. I'm just a bounty hunter. Loyalty to the mission is my professional code."

Inspector George didn't quite agree and shook his head with a smile, "I can tell you are a powerful gentleman."

"The Lizardman incident probably wouldn't have been resolved well by Pa… Spider-Man alone. It might even have cost a few lives. Your appearance made us feel very relieved."

Corin nodded thoughtfully, amused as he watched Inspector George clumsily hide Peter's identity.

It seemed his heart had already gradually accepted Little Spider, unaware that Corin had long known everything.

Thinking again, if he remembered correctly, in the original storyline, someone really did die, 'That someone was you, Mr. Inspector.'

Thinking of this, Corin felt that this round of thanks was something he truly deserved.

He smiled and nodded to the inspector, turning to leave.

"Please wait! Sir~"

Corin slightly rolled his eyes, 'What now, one after another. Am I really that popular?'

'You don't even know me yet, remember?'

Hearing that it was Little Spider's voice, Corin politely turned around, "What is it, Little Spider?"

Supported by Gwen, Peter limped over to Corin, "Thank you for your help, respected sir… Would it be convenient to leave a phone number? You're so handsome."

"I mean… I long to get to know a powerful gentleman like you."

Gwen was also at his side, her eyes flickering with curiosity as she looked at Corin, her expression slightly tense.

She was worried that her earlier wariness toward Corin might have offended this expert.

Corin blurted out, "No problem, Peter…"

When Corin took out his phone, he sensed something strange in the air.

Silence!

Everyone present focused their gaze on Corin. Even with his iron-wall-thick skin, Corin felt a bit flushed.

"Crap! I slipped up."

Just as Corin was racking his brain, unable to figure out how to explain why he knew that Peter Parker was Spider-Man,

Peter straightforwardly removed his mask, revealing his youthful and handsome face with a smile, "Sir, no matter how you learned my identity, first of all, as a friend, I shouldn't at least hide my face from you."

'Good grief! This young guy looks honest enough, but he's got plenty of tricks up his sleeve~'

'Off comes the mask just like that. Beside you it's either your girlfriend or your future father-in-law, so you've got backup…'

'But I'm still wearing a mask! Isn't this putting me on the fire?'

'This little brat, he's bad to the bone…'

Gwen and her father didn't expect Peter to pull such a slick move, turning the tables so cleanly. They looked at Corin with curiosity, a trace of slyness flashing in their eyes.

Seeing Corin's hesitation, Peter spoke understandingly, "Sir, there's no need to take off your mask. Since you already know who I am, then whether I wear the spider mask in front of you doesn't really matter anymore."

Corin let out a sigh of relief, 'Since you're being this open, I can't be too sloppy.'

He smiled and said, "Peter, nice to meet you. I'm a bounty hunter, codename [Cockroach]. This is my phone number. I'm very happy to become friends with you."
