Chapter 1 - SCANDAL at BUCKINGHAM PALACE

Prolog :

Midnight in the Palace

The opulent halls of Buckingham Palace lay shrouded in darkness, the only sound the ticking of the ancient clocks echoing through the corridors. The Queen's residence, a symbol of tradition and grandeur, slumbered like a sentinel, its occupants lost in the realm of dreams.

But in the shadows, a figure stirred.

Lady Emily, the Queen's trusted lady-in-waiting, moved silently through the darkness, her eyes scanning the familiar terrain with a mix of unease and purpose. She had been summoned to the palace archives, a place she had never been before, to retrieve a document of utmost importance.

As she descended into the bowels of the palace, the air grew thick with the scent of old books and dust. The musty smell clung to her like a damp shroud, making her skin crawl. She shivered, despite the warmth of the summer evening.

Reaching the archives, she pushed open the heavy doors and slipped inside. The room was a labyrinth of shelves, stretching up to the ceiling like a maze. She navigated the narrow aisles, her fingers trailing over the spines of the leather-bound tomes, until she reached the section she sought.

Her eyes scanned the shelves, her heart pounding in her chest. This was it. The document she had been told to retrieve was hidden here, hidden away for decades. She reached out a trembling hand...

And then she saw it.

A single sheet of paper, yellowed with age, lying on a shelf, as if waiting for her. She reached out, her fingers brushing against the paper...

And that's when she heard the footsteps.

Heavy, deliberate, they echoed through the corridors, growing louder with every passing moment. Lady Emily's heart froze. She knew she was not alone in the palace.

With a surge of panic, she snatched the paper and stuffed it into her pocket. She turned to flee, but it was too late. The footsteps stopped outside the door. The handle turned, and the door creaked open...

Lady Emily's world went dark.

The next morning, the palace staff discovered Lady Emily's lifeless body, her hand clutching a single word: "Remember."

The palace was in an uproar. The Queen was informed, and the authorities were summoned. But the document was gone, and the killer remained at large.

As the investigation began, whispers of a long-buried secret began to spread through the palace corridors. A secret that threatened to shake the very foundations of the monarchy. A secret that would unleash a scandal that would rock the nation to its core...

The Queen's private secretary, Sir Reginald, was summoned to the Queen's chambers. He found Her Majesty pacing the floor, her face etched with worry.

"Sir Reginald, we have a problem," she said, her voice low and urgent. "Lady Emily is dead, and the document is missing. We must find it before it falls into the wrong hands."

Sir Reginald bowed. "I will do everything in my power, Your Majesty. But I fear we are dealing with a clever and ruthless adversary."

The Queen's eyes narrowed. "I want the best detective in the country on this case. I want the truth uncovered, and I want it done discreetly."

Sir Reginald nodded. "I will see to it, Your Majesty."

As he left the Queen's chambers, he knew that the stakes were high. The monarchy itself was at risk. He had to find the killer and the document, no matter the cost.

The game was afoot, and the palace would never be the same again...

The city outside was waking up, unaware of the drama unfolding within the palace walls. The sun was rising over the London skyline, casting a golden glow over the city. But in the palace, the shadows were growing longer, and the darkness was closing in.

The scandal was about to break, and the world would never look at the monarchy the same way again...
