Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: True Fears Unveiled

Inuyasha found a way to obtain another ability for Tessaiga, of all his abilities, Akari thought this one was the most similar to the power of a priestess. After all, it eliminated the demonic energy. At least when Inuyasha could master it.

Because of this, Akari had plenty of time to stay with little black since she really wasn't necessary. She noticed that many weak demons had moved around the mountain. Maybe, because there wasn't a powerful demon in this area, she had expanded the protective barrier more and more. Leaving only a small path so that 'food' could reach the little black.

Akari took advantage of this time too, to prepare a place where she could hide Kikyou's soul and build a new body for her. That place had to be far away from here, from Naraku and Inuyasha, so it wasn't easy. She had been thinking of a way to keep Kikyou's soul safe until she obtained the full power of the rest of Kagome's soul.

However, while she trained, Akari realized something. Kagome's soul wasn't the only one that had a seal on it. Her own soul had one too. Akari was filled with rage when she discovered that. The one responsible for the seal could be only one entity: the world's consciousness. Akari clenched her teeth; she had been stupid as well. She thought that only thanks to the original protagonist's soul was it possible for her to manipulate and use the spiritual energy. But she forgot that you had to possess talent in the first place. Like Madam Kaede, she could feel and use the spiritual energy, but she didn't have much talent. Without talent, it was almost impossible to become someone capable of using spiritual energy in such an advanced way as Kikyou, for example.

"Damn it!" Akari couldn't help but swear.

She leaned against little black and sighed.

"Well, I have to deal with this thing first." Akari focused on finding a way to undo the seal on her soul without the world consciousness noticing it.

Akari rejoined the group after a few days. However, she was in a bad mood, and she still couldn't find a way to undo the seal. Nonetheless, soon she didn't have much time to think about it. Naraku decided to recover his heart, so the fight was intense. Akari tried to prevent Miroku from using his Wind Tunnel, but as usual, it wasn't possible; she couldn't obtain even a fragment of the Fuyohikei. It seemed as if everything was against her. To calm down Akari helped Kikyou to purify the poison from Miroku.

Akari wiped the blood from her lips with indifference while she listened to Kikyou.

"You should stop, it's a lot of poison for a human. You cannot withstand it." Akari ignored her.

She was really angry at this moment. She had no way to vent, so she told her.

"So as you". Kikyou looked at her and said.

"I'm different. It's just because my soul was so injured that I couldn't heal the injuries to my body. Now, I have Midoriko's soul. With her power, I have healed my injuries. You can't do that." Akari listened to her words and was stunned for a second before asking.

"The injuries of the soul can be reflected in the body?" Kikyou nodded.

"Of course they can. If it wasn't for that, I would have healed the poison by myself." Akari wanted to ask if it was possible to prevent an attack aimed at the soul protecting it with the body, but in the end she didn't ask. If the world's consciousness heard her, it would be her end.

There was no option to test it on her own body.

Akari felt grateful to Kikyou for her words, so she said.

"Thank you." Kikyou looked at her, confused, but Akari didn't answer because in her heart she said, 'Thank you, and I'm sorry, I will do as much as possible to bring you back to life.'

The moment arrived soon, one night, she saw a spider's web surrounding Inuyasha and following it. They found Kikyou, who had left days ago. Inuyasha entered a cabin where Kikyou was and then Akari touched the thread to follow the plot. She was confident, but soon, Akari felt terrified.

She thought she would see the images of what happened with Kikyou and Inuyasha fifty years ago, but she didn't instead she saw herself being controlled by the thread, following the original story, she was behaving as if she were in love with Inuyasha, and she decided to stay an abandon her world and her family to remain here being 'happy' all of this while she was manipulated like a puppet.

Akari tried to fight and refuse, but she couldn't; she started to sweat.

"What the hell is that?!"

"Akari." She heard Inuyasha's voice closing in on her and pushed him away with a slap, shouting.

"Leave me alone!!" Akari suddenly opened her eyes and saw Kikyou and Inuyasha looked at her in surprise.

Akari was still shocked, and it took her a few seconds to understand that it had been an illusion, and that she was back in reality. But she pushed Inuyasha.

Akari bit her tongue and said, with a hoarse voice. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay..." Inuyasha said.

Suddenly, Kikyou asked. "What did you see?"

Akari scoffed, hiding her trembling fingers, and said. "It doesn't matter, does it?"

There was an awkward silence between them, and Inuyasha asked.

"Could you treat Kikyou's wound?" Akari shook her head.

"I have been corrupted by Naraku's spider web." Kikyou looked at her and said.

"There is a way to treat your corruption. Do you want to know?" Akari nodded and said.

"Yes, I do." Akari heard the location of the mountain mausoleum and stood up. Before she left, she told Inuyasha.

"Stay with Kikyou and don't stray from her." Akari closed the door, and her eyes turned cold. She had never imagined she would see her own true fears in the illusion instead of Kagome's.

Akari furrowed her brow; she had been careless. Akari needed to discover how much and what Naraku knew.
