Chapter 1 - THE CRIME SCENE

CHAPTER 1:

-[a cacophony of sirens began to crescendo as the police approaches the crime scene]

It was 9:59pm, the police had arrived at the crime scene. Yellow caution tapes were drawn along the parameters. Investigations had begun.

[while still at the crime scene....]

"Dr Richard Hemsworth, a famous archeologist and scholar known for his contributions to archeological findings and deciphering of ancient text and writing. But It begs the question!!... who could have done such a thing?"

Detective Silvers asked with disgust ; as he squats scanning through the deceased wallets and credentials.

"But why would a renown archeologist decide to wonder through an alley way such as this!?... I mean this particular alley way is known to harbor the likes of criminals and gang members!!"

Said a member of the forensics team. who was just as curious as the detective.

" We had a call from an anonymous, we were told that a robbery had taken place at an abandoned alley way. we have no confirmed witnesses yet."

An officer narrated,

"what about the suspects?... any leads!!?"

detective Silvers asked.

"No sir!!...there are no current leads. Investigations are still ongoing. we'll make preparations for an autopsy with detailed analysis after the procedure." said the officer

"Good, have the crime scene cleared.... can't believe we have to deal with the news reporters again. am sure this will make the headlines." Detective Silvers replied.

The deceased Dr Richard's body was moved in an attempt to clean up the crime scene, so as a proper autopsy can be carried out. Then something caught the attention of Detective Silvers.

The detective eyes were fixated at the deceased Dr Richard's left wrist. deciding to satisfy his curiosity he halted the officers moving the deceased body and took a look at it. it was a tattoo with some scribbled words that are not in english which read:-

'CAPUT PRIMUM'

Latin words which translates to - 'CHAPTER ONE'.

the detective eyes scanning through the the lower regions of the deceased left arm, towards the wrist noticed a roman numeral which read:-

'DCCCXIX'

which was a roman numeral that translate to - '819'.

Detective Silvers didn't think much of it because it was an old tattoo. so he let the officers carry on with what they were doing.

-[it is 1 am past midnight, detective Silvers is heading home after a long day. especially after finishing up at the crime scene. turns up the radio just to break the silence. since the road is partially empty and also a lonely one.]

whilst the detective was Lost in thought. he recalled the unusual tattoo on the left hand of Dr Richard. he couldn't seem to shake off the feeling that there is more to that tattoo than it meets the eye. although it was an old tattoo. it was a strange coincidence for a roman numeral ( DCCCXIX) to translate to '819' to which it corresponds to the date of his murder. which was August 19th (819).

it was speculated that the late Dr Richards was robbed and later shot. but the detective came to realize that Dr Richard's wallet was still very much intact and strangely enough the wallet had some good sum of money inside. Reassuring his doubts about the late Dr Richards being robbed and at the same time debunking those speculations.

the million dollar question was :-

'why was Dr Richards killed?'

'who are the persons involved'

'was Dr Richards affiliated with any dangerous groups?, that later wanted him dead?'

so many questions went through the mind of the detective as he kept pondering whilst driving home.

2 days later....

**Detective Silvers pours himself a cup of his morning coffee, a daily routine to help start his morning. Then switches on his television to watch the Daily News Channel**

On the Daily News channel:-

-[The death of Dr Richards Hemsworth made headlines in no time. the news of his passing spread like wildfire. The chief of police came out to address the press. Describing the unfortunate passing of Dr Richard as a huge loss to society. He further narrated how he (late Dr Richards) was supposed to deliver a parcel containing an ancient papyrus and manuscript that he just recently discovered few months ago in Egypt while on an archeological expedition. the chief of police further narrating that late Dr Richards used several months deciphering the ancient manuscript and was ready to submit his finding to the National museum. only to be found deceased at an abandoned alley way and the ancient manuscript missing. the chief of police promised the press, thorough investigatioxns into the case and bring to justice the culprits involved in the crime.]

" So... something was stolen after all. That would explain why the wallet and several other valuables were still intact." - the detective said to himself.

" an ancient manuscript? why would they go through the trouble of stealing some manuscripts!!? it doesn't make any sense... unless they choose to auction it off at the black market." -said the detective whose battling to make sense of the entire case.

**sips his coffee then turns off the television. Sits in his sofa and start to analyze**

" I've made my research about the life of Dr Richard Hemsworth including gathering Intel on majority of his previous works and whereabouts but yet... there has not been an established article connecting to any parcel or manuscript that is to be delivered to the National museum." -said detective Silvers as he subtly soliloquizes

" I don't understand!; where did the chief of staff learn that information!!?. and from what source!?

-he asked rhetorically

" putting out a statement such as that means someone had prior knowledge of the parcel containing the ancient manuscripts. and according to my research there have not been any published information regarding it." -the detective ponders as he tries connecting the dots.

" Unless.... it was a highly covert operation. something tells me they were trying to hide the existence of those ancient manuscripts but after the robbery, they had to make the big reveal in a press statement. its seems too convenient; Dr Richards being found dead in a dangerous alley way. but no personal valuables of his were taken which would have implied he got robbed by thugs. but rather a parcel was stolen containing an ancient manuscripts; implying that someone had prior knowledge of that parcel being delivered and must have intercepted it. And then we have the strange anonymous caller whom we still can't identify...sigh...." - the detective thought as he exhaled heavily in despair.

"get it together, you've had many cases in the past and you've pulled through. This one shouldn't be any different. you can do this!!!!" - he said to himself in an attempt to boost his morale

"I guess it's time to head to work then" -he said as he makes haste.
