Chapter 22 - Chapter 22

"Brother, I was wrong. Please don't be mad, okay?"

Li Miao'er blinked her watery eyes, wearing a pitiful expression. She stretched out her small hand to gently stroke her brother's cheek, as if genuinely worried that he might stay angry with her.

"Meow, I can eat by myself. Put me down now. And don't touch me like that in the future, understand?" Chen Yi demanded with a deep frown.

Things definitely couldn't go on like this. He wanted to teach this kitten of a little sister some manners—to train her to be a proper, well-behaved girl.

"Brother, I understand. But that's impossible~"

A mischievous smirk played on her soft pink lips. Agreeing in her heart? Of course not—that didn't count.

"Brother, how about I don't feed you mouth-to-mouth? Okay?"

Li Miao'er pursed her lips, scooped up a spoonful of oatmeal, blew on it lightly to cool it down, then carefully brought it to his mouth.

"Haah…"

Chen Yi narrowed his eyes and sighed in resignation, opening his mouth to accept the food from the spoon. He chewed slowly before swallowing.

The appearance of this porridge is a disaster, but the taste isn't bad. It's actually quite edible. The displeasure in his heart faded a little.

"Brother, you should rest properly at home for a few days. I'll take good care of you."

Li Miao'er's gaze burned with intensity as she stared at his alluring lips and his slender, delicate collarbones. She couldn't help but swallow hard—she was hungry too.

She wanted to eat something tasty, but she also wanted to devour the beauty nestled in her arms.

It's miracle enough if I don't get bullied to death by you. How could I dare expect you to take care of me? Chen Yi grumbled inwardly.

Li Miao'er fed him the porridge at a leisurely pace. She still loved this feeling—it made her incredibly happy.

Watching his gradually satisfied expression and the slow flush spreading across his cheeks… It was truly breathtaking, making her heart race. The saying that "beauty could be a feast" really was true.

"Meow, I'm full. Go eat now."

Chen Yi pulled hard on Sister Meow's arm and sat up. He couldn't eat any more—he felt utterly stuffed.

He swore he never wanted to be fed like this again. It was just too embarrassing.

"Brother, have another egg for nutrition. It'll help you recover faster."

Li Miao'er blinked her beautiful eyes, speaking with concern. She gently shifted her brother's body aside, then peeled an egg and handed it to him.

Chen Yi took the egg and stuffed it into his mouth, chewing forcefully as if he had a personal grudge against it.

Ugh— cough, cough, cough!

He abruptly stood up and hurried to the water dispenser to pour himself some cold water, gulping down a few mouthfuls. He'd almost choked to death on the egg yolk just now.

"Brother, why are you eating so fast?"

Li Miao'er smiled as she helped him back to the sofa. Her brother seemed really unhappy.

"Hmph!"

With a cold snort, Chen Yi pushed Sister Meow's small hand away. He really wanted to turn her over his knee and spank her—just like disciplining a disobedient child—to make her understand what was wrong.

But he was afraid he wouldn't be able to overpower her and might end up getting bullied instead.

Li Miao'er smiled and blinked her lovely eyes. She picked up her own bowl and began eating the oatmeal with delicate grace. The water in the porridge had been fully absorbed by the oats, making it quite easy to swallow.

The flavor is really fragrant, too. My cooking skills aren't bad at all.

Chen Yi got up and poured a glass of water for Sister Meow. Now that he was full, the weakness had subsided somewhat—at least he could walk steadily now.

Li Miao'er, bowl in hand, took a deep breath. She was exhausted from eating all that oatmeal. After drinking the glass of water, she felt much better.

"Brother, after eating, I'm going out to fight zombies. You absolutely must not leave the house."

Looking at the delicate figure lying beside her, she pursed her lips and made her declaration. Only with strength could she protect her brother.

"Meow, don't wander too far. Clear out the nearby zombies first, and if you're in danger, run straight back."

Chen Yi didn't object. People had to grow eventually. Only by constantly hunting zombies, evolving, and growing stronger could they live comfortably in this world.

"Mm."

Li Miao'er picked up her bowl and continued eating.

Chen Yi walked to the door and peered through the peephole, but there were no signs of zombies outside.

Only a few mutilated skeletons and torn clothing fragments remained, and the black blood on the ground had already dried.

He came back and gently pinched Sister Miao's cheek, asking softly, "Meow'er, where are the three women's weapons?"

"Hmm, they're all in the bathroom. Brother, what do you need them for?" Li Miao'er blinked her beautiful eyes, puzzled.

"It's fine. I just want to see what these people were up to. Why did they have handguns?"

Chen Yi went to the bathroom and retrieved the pistol. A miniature Suzaku was engraved on the grip—it looked like an older, possibly retired model, but it had a nice heft to it.

"Brother, this gun is really powerful. Keep it for self-defense, so you won't have to be afraid of bad guys in the future."

Li Miao'er smiled as she swallowed the food in her mouth, though seeing the pistol made her feel a bit uneasy.

If it were a rifle bullet, it would definitely shatter bones—maybe even kill outright.

"If I remember correctly, this should be a Suzaku 54 pistol, used by the police. Were those three police officers, or… some other special profession?"

Chen Yi took the small pistol and sat down next to Sister Meow. He popped out the magazine to inspect it—it could hold fourteen rounds in a double-stack, but this gun was empty.

"Brother, it might be stolen. There are several police officers with guns in this neighborhood."

After speaking, Li Miao'er forced herself to swallow the last bit of oatmeal in her bowl. There was still half a pot of sticky porridge left—she couldn't eat any more and really didn't know what to do with it.

"Meow, eat your fill first. I'll clean up the blood at the door."

Chen Yi handed the pistol to his sister, gave her tender cheek a light squeeze, then got up and headed for the bedroom.

"Brother, why are there no bullets in this?"

Li Miao'er examined the pistol magazine and noticed the same problem.

"Not sure."

Chen Yi put on a mask and gloves, found two nylon bags and a shovel in the utility room, and prepared to remove the corpses outside.

"Brother, let me do it."

Li Miao'er followed him and took the shovel from his hand. Her brother was so weak—how could she let him handle such rough work?

"Meow, first check the pockets of their clothes and take out any contents, then put the bodies into the bags."

Chen Yi smiled and took a breath, handing the mask and gloves to Sister Meow. Having a sister who rushed to do the hard work wasn't so bad.

Click. Click.

As soon as the door opened, a powerful stench rushed in. Luckily, there were no zombies outside.

Suppressing her nausea, Li Miao'er knelt down, emptied the pockets, tossed the items to the side, and stuffed the scattered remains into the nylon bags.

"Meow, take these bags up to the rooftop and throw them over."

Chen Yi covered his mouth and spoke in a muffled voice, then hurried straight to the bedroom. He took over a dozen old clothes from the closet, spread them over the bloody stains, then returned to the room with the somewhat grisly spoils.

This way, they wouldn't step in the blood when going back and forth, and it would also help mask much of the stench.

Thud!

Standing at the edge of the rooftop, Li Miao'er forcefully hurled the two nylon bags down, then turned and quickly ran back home.

Huff…

"Brother, what are you looking at?" she asked, slightly out of breath as she brought her little face closer.

"Meow, these are the phones of those three women from last night. I wonder what they were up to."

Chen Yi handed one of the black phones to his sister. The three of them had five mobile phones and over twenty bank cards between them. There were also nine IDs that didn't belong to them—probably looted from others.

No! Use force! Ahhhh—!

Li Miao'er's pretty face flushed instantly. She hadn't expected all the… indecent videos to be stored on the phone. The moment she turned it on, she was met with particularly intense gasping sounds.

"Meow, go rest for a bit."

Chen Yi looked at Sister Meow speechlessly and took the phone back. She wasn't exactly "healthy-minded" to begin with; if she watched this kind of content, she might become even more… incorrigible.

"Brother, these people must have been robbers. There's no need to investigate further."

Li Miao'er blinked her watery eyes. Sitting cross-legged, she pursed her lips in quiet contemplation. Why isn't my brother the slightest bit shy when he sees videos like this?

"It's fine. If there's no useful information, we'll just discard them. It won't waste much time."

Chen Yi pursed his thin lips and continued scrolling through the phones, but couldn't find anything of use.

It was all daily life messages, various couples' romantic exchanges, and a whole bunch of indecent videos.
