Chapter 1: A Peaceful Day of a Lazy S-Rank Guide
This world was a world on the brink of destruction. Sudden rifts appeared and spread everywhere. The entire globe faced the apocalypse right before its eyes, until the Espers, those who possessed superpowers, appeared.
Powerful Espers possessed strength that humanity had only dreamed of in science fiction movies. They began attacking to erase the rifts and clearing out safe zones for ordinary people to live in.
Everyone thought a new era would arrive, until the Espers reached their limits and exploded.
The more powerful an Esper was, the more that power caused pain to their body. Then the first Guide was discovered, because an Esper said that person was his Fate Guide, with a compatibility of 99 percent.
More Guides appeared. They could heal and soothe the emotions of Espers using the energy within their bodies, transmitted through skin contact and bodily fluids.
From that point on, the era of Espers and Guides began.
I closed the book in my hands, enjoying a rare leisurely day. I was so idle that I ended up sitting there rereading the history of the world once again.
At the Guide and Esper Management Headquarters of District D, I am Kim Jun, an S-rank Guide in charge of Team 7. I am not necessarily the Guide with the strongest abilities, but I am certainly the Guide who knows best how to avoid work.
Everything started when I was fifteen years old. I accidentally saved an Esper who was also my classmate when a rift erupted right inside the school. After that, he and I were taken together to the Guide and Esper Management Headquarters.
That guy is now one of the Espers known as one of the strongest of humankind, while I became a leisurely Guide with a hobby of avoiding work.
"Kim Jun Hyung, he has come looking for you again."
Lee Do Yeon was the Esper on duty with me at the headquarters today. He was a cute A-rank Esper with sparkling puppy-like eyes. It could be said that I was always greatly drawn to his cuteness.
Moreover, Lee Do Yeon was very obedient and well behaved. He truly was a good kid.
But thinking about the fly that was always bothering me made me extremely irritated.
I walked out to Team 7's reception room. An Esper with a body as big as a bear was already sitting there waiting. His gaze was fixed on me like a dog staring at a bone.
"Geon Do, Team 2 also has an A-rank Guide in charge, so why do you always come looking for me?"
Geon Do ignored the sarcasm in my words. He held out an arm with a bleeding wound and spoke with sparkling eyes on the face of a burly man.
"Guide Kim Jun, I am really in a lot of pain. I need Guiding with a kiss or something even better."
That is right. If you could squeeze out two more drops of tears, it would be even more convincing.
Every day, this big idiot came to Team 7's office to ask me for Guiding. After that, he always found ways to inflict serious injuries on himself in order to get deep Guiding from me, despite the fact that the compatibility index between Geon Do and me was not even 20 percent.
"Where is Cha Cha? Why do you not go look for Cha Cha? She is the Guide in charge of Team 2."
I sat down irritably, grabbed Geon Do's hand, and poured more energy into it than usual to quickly treat him. The wound on his arm closed rapidly, even as his face gradually became gloomy.
"Kim Jun, you are really hard to pursue. Cha Cha told me you really are an ice cold beauty."
Looking at Geon Do's muscle packed face scrunched into a lump and twitching, I truly just wanted to shout at him to give up. Nothing would change unless he crawled back into his mother's womb to have his facial features remolded and be born again.
Alright, I admit it. I like handsome men. So what is wrong with that?
After awakening, most Espers are more or less good looking. An appearance as hard to describe as Geon Do's could only be rated as once in a thousand years.
After finishing Guiding Geon Do, I quickly chased him out of Team 7's office. I truly did not want to look at that foolish face any longer.
Lee Do Yeon burst out laughing inside the room.
"Cha Cha said that as long as Geon Do manages to flirt with you successfully, Team 2 will gain an additional S-rank Guide. That is why she did not treat Geon Do."
I truly did not know what to say.
There was a rule at the headquarters that Guides, except under special circumstances, should not refuse Guiding requests from injured Espers. No matter how lazy I wanted to be, I still could not refuse Geon Do's request in this situation.
Lee Do Yeon giggled like a pig, his nose snorting.
"Who told you to be the most beautiful flower in District D headquarters? People like Geon Do lose their minds every time they see you."
I shrugged, ignoring Lee Do Yeon's teasing, and handed him the interdimensional communicator.
"When Zero notices that he is returning, wake me up immediately. I am taking a lunch nap in the room for a bit."
"Got it."
Lee Do Yeon nodded seriously. He admired Zero very much, and he never dared to be careless with anything related to Zero.
In Team 7, the person I trusted the most was Vice Captain Min Seok, but the one with the strongest strength was Captain Zero, an S-rank Esper with light element abilities, one of the extremely rare elemental types.
Zero's abilities were very powerful and approached SS rank, but he was also quickly exhausted when using his power. Every time he returned, he needed Guiding immediately.
I yawned and then sank into a sweet dream. I dreamed of a peaceful day just like any other ordinary day, completely unaware that my lazy life was about to change starting today.
