Chapter 15 - Detention

Sukuna and Bakugo sat in the classroom silently. Bakugo staring at the desk, fists clenched on the table, while Sukuna, hands behind his head, laid back in a relaxed manner without a care for the person sitting to his right. Aizawa was out like a light, sleeping in his yellow sleeping bag on the ground.

"Fuck you." Bakugo suddenly broke the silence.

"No thanks, I'm into girls." Sukuna casually replied, not even opening his eyes to look at him. Bakugo slammed the table in rage. The man was just that easy to ragebait.

"This is exactly why you don't deserve to study in UA and become a hero." Sukuna commented, now putting his feet up on the table.

"Who the hell gave you the right to decide that?!" Bakugo stood up, pointing at him, face full of rage. Sukuna finally opened his eyes, glancing at him lazily.

"Are you seriously asking me that question? Seems like getting into UA doesn't mean you have a functioning brain. You'd likely be more successful as a villain rather than a hero."

"I'll kill you—"

"See what I mean? Your dumbass is proving me right." Sukuna snorted, shaking his head. Bakugo just growled, clenching his fists, his fingernails painfully digging into his skin.

"How does it feel to have someone better than you at every aspect? Did I hurt your little feelings? Is your sensitive ego demolished? Suck it up, this world doesn't care about what you feel, the villains surely don't."

"Either you be nice, or have the whole class and possibly the whole school be your enemy for three years. I gotta warn you, Mina is the Queen of Gossip for a reason. Or was it the Queen of Tea?..." He mumbled the question to himself, rubbing his chin with a thoughtful expression.

'The hell?! Is this asshole really getting his girlfriend to help ruin my life?! Just how petty can this bastard get?!' Bakugo shouted in his mind, cursing Sukuna as much as he could, as fast as he could.

"What's it gonna be? I'm not telling you to do a 180 degree personality change and become All Might or something, I'm telling you to at least not be a pain in the ass in everyone's lives. Don't think I don't know what you did at Aldera High, Bakugo..." Bakugo widened his eyes in horror, slowly stepping back as Sukuna's gaze became a little too menacing.

"Better be careful with what you say from now on, Mina has friends in a lot of places... But really? You told Midoriya to kill himself so he can hopefully get a Quirk in the next life? And I have so much more than just that. You really should put that creativity into better use instead of whatever this is. All of this just proves that you're no better than a villain—"

"Alright fine!" Bakugo interjected, in full on panic mode. "I'll be nice or whatever! Just don't let your girl air that shit out!" He shouted, almost having a begging tone.

Sukuna smirked. "Seems like we have a deal. I can now at least expect a somewhat harmonious school life. Let us start anew, shall we?" He stretched out his hand, with Bakugo staring at it while blinking.

"Tch... I hate you..." He grumbled, shaking the hand. Bakugo winced as they shook hands. No wonder Sukuna ranked first in the grip strength test.

"Well, this is getting boring quick. Our detention is almost done. And since sensei is fast asleep, I'm out of here." Sukuna glanced at Aizawa before grabbing his bag and exiting the class without hesitation, leaving Bakugo to stare where Sukuna was previously standing.

This guy was a maniac, and that was simply a severe understatement. But that pink alien girlfriend of his, Mina was her name if he remembered correctly, even though she looked like an ordinary cheerful girl...

In some ways she's more of a demon than him.

...

Sukuna and Mina were once again walking home, and since UA is far from their houses, they have to take the subway. On some days Sukuna would be paying for the tickets, on some days it would be Mina doing so to lighten the burden, though Sukuna always manages to get his way, paying for them both in the end, not wanting Mina to spend money.

Instead of the usual chatter, Mina was weirdly silent today. Though he noticed something else, she was wrapping her arms around his right arm tightly, something she never did but now she acted like it was the norm.

"Why'd you have to go punch Bakugo like that? Aizawa sensei had it all handled didn't he?" Mina brought up. Sukuna remained silent as they walked forward.

"You could've used words, ya know? Try my way of things once in a while maybe?" She continued. Sukuna sighed.

"On a guy like Bakugo? With an ego like that, he'd only see guidance from us as a personal attack."

"Yeah I know that, but it's just... well just now was the first time I saw you get into a fight, and man... I didn't know you were that fast, and that was when sensei cancelled out your quirk."

"Hm..." He grunted in return, not knowing what to say. Mina then continued.

"But back to the point. I get that Bakugo's stubborn, but he's not stupid is he? You cracked the shell. Now he's either going to double down, or he's going to be confused for eternity unless someone shows him a better way to exist, which also makes it your problem now." Mina smirked at him. Sukuna blinked before he exhaled loudly.

"Does it really?"

"Yup!" Mina emphasized the 'p' sound, her smirk widening. "I think I've said this before to you once, ah yes, 'intervening in people is more serious than intervening in battles'." She recounted. After all, battles end while personality inflection points last decades.

"So now that you've essentially restructured his whole social reality, you're now obligated to help him like it or not. Hihi!" Mina grinned, knowing full well that her socially awkward friend would have a hard time doing so.

"Shit..." He muttered to himself. Great. Just what he wanted on the first day of school, be a therapist. Mina patted his back im reassurance.

"Relax, I'm sure the whole class would help out with that. I don't think they'd like their three years to be filled with silly drama between classmates."

"If you say so..." He whispered before glancing at an ice cream parlor. He casually grabbed her hand and gently dragged a now flustered Mina towards the store.

" Let's go. My treat."

"H-hey!"

...

"So uh...." Kirishima fumbled with his piece of paper for a bit before looking at Sukuna staring at his own. "What electives are you choosing?"

"Still thinking about it..." The pink haired boy replied, analyzing everything. Currently, the whole class was choosing their own electives under the supervision of Aizawa.

Just like any other school, UA offers electives for students. It's catalog would be unreasonably massive, because Quirks fracture reality into a thousand niche specializations. While a normal school offers Art or Computer Science. UA basically offers 'Don't Accidentally Level A City 204'.

Students absolutely have to choose carefully. Sure they could switch electives, but that would mean they could possibly lag behind weeks of syllabus. Basically, switching electives mid-term would mean that one missed the foundational theory, prerequisite lab safety training and possibly not understanding the instructor's internal jargon and unspoken assumptions.

'What kind of hero do I want to be?' Sukuna wondered to himself. He'd never really confronted that question in a while, though it usually ends up with him having more questions than answers in the first place.

He shook his head, re-reading the entire piece of paper once again. Meanwhile, as Aizawa watched them with a bored gaze, the class was silent, dead silent. It seemed like they understood the importance of this moment.

'I have no need for most of the combat, movement, and quirk mastery electives. Why would I waste time on fundamentals that I already have?' He reasoned in his mind, skipping the section entirely.

'Rescue, survival, and emergency response electives... We're going to learn it anyways being in the Department of Heroes, so no point in taking them too.' He skipped that part without a second thought.

'Ah, here's one. Villain & Crime Studies. The syllabus contains 'Criminal Networks and Underground Economies', 'Counter-Villain Intelligence', 'Black Market Tech Analysis',

'Superhuman Terrorism Studies' and much much more.' Sukuna nodded to himself as he ticked the box, deciding to take the elective.

He'd then take the 'Philosophy, Ethics, and Deep Dread' elective, containing subjects such as 'Philosophy of Heroism', 'Quirk Determinism vs Free Will', 'Ethics of Superhuman Power', 'Villainy and Moral Relativism', 'Symbolism and Myth-Making in Modern Society', 'Philosophy of Violence and Justice' and strangely, 'Existentialism for Teenagers with Superpowers'.

Then he'd take Support and Engineering Core. He'd had some ideas for some time now, and maybe learning how to make them would prove useful. Who knows? He might earn money from patents. Having an influence over society does sounds fun.

He ticked the 'Experimental Support Tech', 'Public Image, Law, and Society', and 'Strategy, Intelligence, and Mind Sciences' electives as well. This might be a lot for a higg schooler, and he might get a meeting with the principal for choosing this much, but Sukuna knows himself, he knows he can handle it.

He might be at school every single day though, which is a bummer, but it is what it is. Power comes with a sacrifice.

He just hoped he'd be able to use this knowledge.
