Chapter 16 - Ground Beta

"I'm not one to argue about the pursuit of knowledge, but are you sure you're able to handle the mental load?" As expected, Sukuna was called to the principal's office, far sooner than he expected. It's with the teachers are worried, or they want to keep him monitored due to the strangely concerning subjects he undertook.

The principal of UA has... a weird appearance so to speak. Was he a dog? A mouse? Or a bear? A cat in disguise maybe? Sukuna let go of that thought for now. The important thing was that he's the principal.

"It's useful knowledge, principal. I'd only be sacrificing my time for three years. And who knows? I might actually have fun learning for once. You don't normally see philosophical debates thrown around in class do you?" The pink haired student admitted. The principal, Nezu was his name, only nodded.

"It would be a rather interesting class, I must say. But initially, I thought someone like you would choose the combat courses. Your choices are bizarre I must say."

"What? Was it because I have a destructive Quirk? That's kinda discriminatory don't you think, principal?" Sukuna raised an eyebrow at him. Nezu shook his head, internally panicking a little for seemingly offending Sukuna.

"That wasn't what I meant, you see. The combat courses are what every other hero-in-training obsesses over. So naturally with you being in the department of heroes and having such innate power, I thought you would pick them, but instead you pile up electives in strategy, economics, villain studies, philosophy, and tech."

Sukuna snorted. "Sorry but not sorry if you feel disappointed, principal. I was never one for following what others want for me. I will carve my own path in this school. Now will you let me take these electives?" He asked.

"I suppose I have no choice. But what are you planning to do with such a burden of information?" Nezu couldn't help but ask.

"Nothing to be concerned of." Sukuna got up, having gotten the permission he originally came for. Nezu watched him leave, a pot of worry bubbling inside him.

"I hope you aren't using it for evil. Right, Sukuna-san?" Sukuna remained silent as he reached for the door handle.

"Right?" Nezu was getting more nervous. Why the hell isn't Sukuna saying anything back? As his pink haired student stepped halfway out of the room, he glanced back at Nezu with a smirk.

"You don't need to concern yourself with such trivial things. Ciao, principal."

Oh boy. What has principal Nezu done now...

...

"He's changed a little." Sero commented as Bakugo sat down in class, the boy's brooding face visible from a mile away.

"Guess it did work then." Mina commented, recalling a certain memory. Her mind flash backed to a conversation she had with Sukuna, when they were in an outing, an outing that their parents insisted them to plan.

...

(Flashback)

"I got some tea about that Bakugo guy you saved. Tons of places are talking about him. X, 4Chan, Threads, even Reddit. " Mina began as they together on the bench, enjoying the scenery of the park in the middle of a sunset. Sukuna grunted, signalling Mina to continue.

"From what I got, apparently this guy is a big douchebag in his middle school. The students there say that he thinks he's the top dog just because his Quirk is 'superior' than most. Imagine if we have a pro hero who acts like that."

"I'm pretty sure we already have some, we just never know about them."

"Ugh, I'd rather not have this guy as my classmate. My school life would be hell! And also, did you know he's discriminate towards the Quirkless?"

"Really?"

"Yeah, apparently he always bullies this kid called Izuku Midoriya for not having a Quirk. Some people say he even told him to kill himself. Wait isn't this Midoriya guy the one you saved the other day?"

"Yes..." Sukuna muttered. Weird, why would he save his own bully? He shook his head, looking back at Mina.

"Ignore them. I'd rather focus on you right now." Sukuna stated. Mina blinked, a little taken aback. Did this doofus know that he's flirting with her at the moment?

" S-sure, whatever you say..."

...

"Here's hoping I have a somewhat normal school life." Mina whispered, her flashback ending. The class heard loud footsteps approaching them, gathering their attention towards the front door.

"I am here coming through the door like a normal person!!!" Some students' eyes lit up as All Might came barging in, his toothy grin bright as the sun. The number 1 hero laughed as several upper year students walked in, placing a bunch of containers besides him.

"Let's get straight to business, everyone! Today we will be having..." All Might scribbled on the white board before stepping aside.

"The Trial Of Battle!" He declared, pointing at the whiteboard having the exacts words he mentioned. The class was excited, especially Bakugo, whose bloodlust was oozing off him crazily while grinning like a maniac.

It'd been almost weeks since their first day at UA, and things have been almost uneventful, with the occasional training of their respective Quirks. Today was a very special occasion, since usually Aizawa was one watching over the heroics class, but now All Might was here.

"These are your hero costumes, prepared just like you all requested formally to match your Quirks! Come on, get changed and gather at Ground Beta in 10 minutes tops! And don't forget! From here on out, you're all officially Heroes!"

"Yes sir!!!"

...

"Dude, I like the fit and all, but people are gonna mistake you for a student instead of a pro." Kirishima chuckled as he and Sukuna were heading towards Ground Beta, the other boys following close behind, striking up their own conversations.

The pink haired boy was wearing a simple black long sleeve shirt resembling a gakuran over a red hoodie, black pants, and red shoes, though it was anything but simple. In actuality, it was filled with experimental tech from yours truly.

Like fish to water, they say. Sukuna had glided through the conceptual parts effortlessly, shocking his sensei of the Department of Support, Power Loader, who manages the Support Course Development Studio.

Though there was a big difference between him and Mei Hatsume of class 1-H, another first year genius in the Department of Support, he was the student who builds only what served him a purpose. Clean, minimal, brutally functional prototypes, while Mei built for the love of the game. Two entirely different philosophies of engineering colliding like tectonic plates.

His hero outfit, his pride and joy, the gakuran outer layer had impact-dispersing polymer weave and shape-memory fibers that stiffen on impact. Visually it was simple, but it's functionally terrifying.

Meanwhile, his red hoodie had thermal regulation fabric, which provided cooling and heating depending on energy output, while the hood was lined with acoustic dampening to block some sensory Quirks.

In addition to that, his pants was modified with stretchable graphene-reinforced fabric for extreme movement without tearing and micro-servos at joints to reduce fatigue and amplify movement efficiency.

Lastly, his red shoes were the most engineered piece, having shock-absorbing soles for landing from absurd heights, kinetic energy storage modules that release bursts for speed or jumps and magnetic soles for vertical surfaces.

He couldn't done it without the assistance of Mei and Power Loader though, their input had helped reduce failures. And with their help, he was also the first person to create reactive fabric systems, energy-channeling textile architecture and kinetic footwear tech. He'd make sure to head to the Department of Management later for patenting work.

"We're here. Where are the girls at?" Denki asked. At the same moment he asked that question, the boy heard chatter from a certain direction. The girls were here.

Sukuna immediately laid his eyes on Mina.

Boy was he mesmerized....
