Chapter 1 - THE IMMORTAL NECROMANCER

Immortal Mountain was grand and majestic, floating on top of the sea of clouds. Sunlight penetrated these clouds and shone on the green forests on the mountain. At the foot of the mountain, waves crashed as the tides rose and fell. Whenever the winds blew, the sea of clouds would experience great movements, and the bamboo forests would sway with the wind.

At the very peak of this mountain stood a lone figure gazing at the sky in thought. His robes swayed in the strong winds. "Yes, I have achieved it all," he thought. "What next?"

This man stood at the very peak of the cultivation world; he was an immortal. "Haa..." He let out a heavy sigh before floating down the mountain. This was probably the last time he was going to enjoy this scenery; he was going to fight another immortal his old friend who had deviated from the righteous path. He was known as the Undead Immortal.

The Undead Immortal was a famous necromancer who had recently risen to fame, and his recent activities had raised concern among the other immortals. He had created a demonic sect and was teaching disciples, thus spreading the hideous ways of necromancy. He was around the same age as him; they were both young, naïve juniors at the sect before they found an inheritance that belonged to a necromancer. He Yang was naturally opposed to taking it, but his friend, who had a lower talent than him, could not resist it.

In this world, there were many ways to cultivate, with two main ways: normal cultivation, where one would absorb the spiritual essence in the air and gradually breakthrough, and necromancy. Necromancers used the souls of the dead to cultivate. They appeared about a thousand years ago and had been spreading ever since. The main advantage of necromancy is that it helped one's cultivation speed to increase despite their talent, but it also had a downside: souls were needed. Thus, necromancers were cold-blooded murderers who had abandoned their human nature and dignity in pursuit of power. Countless necromancy immortals had painted towns red and created mountains of corpses in order to attain immortality.

Therefore, the righteous cultivators had agreed to launch an assault on the necromancy sect.

"He Yue, come out this instant! You are completely surrounded! You have nowhere to run!" an immortal leading the attack shouted.

"Kekekek... You think you can stop me? Let me see you try!" A sharp laugh came from within the sect as countless shadows suddenly erupted, attacking the immortals and their disciples. This was the "Thousand Soul Attack." To practice this technique, one had to kill a thousand people; this showed how cruel He Yue was. This technique, once used, would attack a cultivator's soul and would even kill those who had not strengthened their souls.

Suddenly, countless disciples coughed blood as they clutched their hearts before plummeting to the ground, dead.

"He Yue, you bastard! Come out if you dare!" an old sect elder cried, wiping blood off his mouth.

Of the hundreds of immortals and their disciples, only around fifty were left hovering in the air. Of those who had fallen, most were dead, as the rest lay on the ground unable to move, blood coming out of their seven orifices. Suddenly, a figure shot out of the black mist headed for the sky.

"He's escaping! Do not let him escape!" they screamed, pursuing him.

An intense battle unfolded in the sky as countless lights flashed. Countless immortals fell from He Yue's vicious attacks. In the end, He Yang and He Yue floated above the clouds. He Yue was covered with injuries as blood trickled down to his toes.

"Give up, He Yue! You have exhausted your spiritual essence. You have nowhere to run. This is the end!" He Yang shouted. He still had a lot of spiritual essence left and was confident in defeating him, but he was still cautious, as a dying beast is always the most dangerous.

He Yue let out a wry laugh before charging forward, attacking. He still had some trump cards hidden under his sleeves. With a thought, he activated his shadow element as darkness enveloped the sky around them. Disappearing into the darkness, He Yang's eyes widened with shock as he prepared for the sneak attack.

"So, this is your final result?" he said, striking out his palm.

"Cough!" He Yue was struck in the chest as he spewed a mouthful of blood. He descended from the sky as he went straight for the mortal realm. He smiled, gazing at the sky and looking back at his life. All his life he had chased power, having ascended to a realm not many achieved before they died. Yet here he was, thirty years old and already an immortal, his lifespan thousands of years yet he felt hollow inside. He cursed at fate one last time before disappearing into the clouds.
