"I didn't know you had a nephew, Geto-san," Mr. Kanemoto said, dabbing his forehead with a folded handkerchief. He was a short, bald man in an expensive three-piece suit.

"Well, he is the apple of my eye," Geto said. "Unfortunately, he has been really sick."

"Don't worry, I have made sure the best hospital in Japan treats him."

"I'm grateful."

"While I have you... about this upcoming election. My campaign has hit some headwinds and I was hoping—"

"Geto-sama," Suda said, not looking up from her tablet, "Mr. Kanemoto's donations have been absent for approximately four months."

Kanemoto's smile tightened. "The campaign costs have been significant. You understand how it is. A win for me is a win for you. And I made sure the hospital brings its best doctors for your nephew."

"You're right."

Kanemoto brightened at the monk's words.

"I should repay the courtesy. A win for you is a win for us." Geto's voice carried his practiced warmth. "Every political opponent standing between you and that seat will find themselves dealing with certain curse-related complications."

"I'm counting on you. If you'll excuse me."

The politician left quickly.

Geto watched him go with a look of profound disgust. He hated political monkeys even more than the money-collecting or curse-collecting monkeys. But they were a necessary evil in his crusade.

Over the last decade, the monk quietly wove a political web across Japan. The method was simple: cult members would establish themselves within a politician's inner circle, often through a family connection or by joining their political parties. Once the relationship was solid, Geto would make himself known. Using cursed glass to make cursed spirits visible tended to force an immediate contract.

Their arrangement was simple.

Geto helped his candidates win by deploying cursed spirits against their opposition. In return, those candidates provided immense funding and bureaucratic cover-ups from the prying eyes of jujutsu society.

Suda produced a disinfecting spray bottle from her bag and held it out without comment.

"You always anticipate what I need," Geto said, grateful to clean his hands of the monkey's smell.

"Not always," Suda stated flatly.

The monk glanced at his secretary.

"Why did you release Gashadokuro on Aogashima village?" Suda asked for one simple reason.

Gashadokuro was one of the sixteen registered special grade curses.

Normally, no curse is ever registered. In the jujutsu world, any and all curses are ordered to be executed. But when Suguru Geto was a student at Jujutsu High, his Cursed Spirit Manipulation allowed a new system to arise. So, any special grade curse that Geto subdued were registered. Because of this specific system, the only way for a registered special grade like Gashadokuro to appear in Aogashima was if Geto had intentionally released it.

"Why?" Suda asked. She needed to know how the monk could do this. How could he risk the twins like that?

"When I first encountered Naruto, he had no skin, no eyes, nose, ears, or limbs," Geto said plainly. "He was protected by two special grade vengeful spirits. He was sustained by a form of cursed energy so dense that every sorcerer in Tokyo assumed Sukuna had somehow reincarnated."

Suda held a look of contemplation. "I'm still not seeing the point."

"Do you sense that same wave of cursed energy from Naruto now?"

"...No."

"Exactly. And through this incident, I figured out that Naruto can only access that power if push comes to shove."

"I think if you asked Naruto, he would just tell you," Suda said. The shinobi was blunt and honest about everything; he didn't feel like a person who kept secrets intentionally.

"It is not just about knowing, Manami. It's about pushing the boy toward our goal," Geto said. "Why are the gods of this world hiding from the monkeys?"

"Because of Satoru Gojo."

"For the better part of a decade, I thought if I could just collect enough curses, I could get an inch closer to my dreams. But the world just threw the answer at my feet."

"Naruto is the answer for Gojo?" Suda asked, a shocked look breaking through her usual composure. The idea that anyone could stand against the Honored One was insane.

"Even if Naruto could control whatever is inside him, he would still need the skill to fight against Satoru. And then there are his vengeful curse spirit parents," Geto said. A spark of anticipation lighting up his features. "For the first time in my life, Manami... I can see Satoru losing."

She processed that in silence. The idea that Gojo could be defeated felt like an error. It was the kind of claim that she would have dismissed as delusional. But Geto had stood beside Gojo in his younger years. If anyone understood what Satoru Gojo was capable of, it was him.

"I released Gashadokuro on Aogashima because I needed Naruto to show me that hidden power. I needed to guide the boy's anger toward cursed spirits. I need him to crave more strength."

"But the twins were almost killed," she countered, pushing past her fear for a brief second. "Naruto's condition is terrible. An entire village was destroyed. Jujutsu High and the government have already started an investigation. This was reckless in a way I don't have another word for."

Suda met Geto's gaze and suddenly felt her blood run cold.

Behind his eyes, just for a moment, she could see them. The crushing weight of every cursed spirit he had ever consumed behind his polite expression. It was like an invisible, suffocating crowd standing just out of sight. It was a reminder that the warmth he extended to the people around him was a choice he made. And choices could be unmade.

She adjusted her posture, and softened her tone accordingly. "I am sorry, Geto-sama."

The monk reached out and held her hands.

"No. You're right."

"But I shouldn't have—"

"There were unforeseen consequences to the plan, yes," Geto interrupted, rubbing a reassuring thumb over the back of her knuckles. "But I handled it. I was hiding nearby during the battle with Gashadokuro. I fully intended to intervene sooner, but then Naruto finally used that magnificent power inside him. Now, while the twins are hurt... isn't a little temporary pain a necessary sacrifice if it means we can build a perfect world? A sacred world completely free of cursed spirits?"

"Of course."

"Don't worry, Manami. I plan to apologize to the girls for failing to protect them."

"No, no, Geto-sama," Suda said quickly, a wave of guilt washing over her. "I didn't mean to put you on the spot. I was just confused about what was happening. You don't need to apologize to anyone."

"Do you think I should have done it differently?"

"I don't know," Suda murmured. "But I trust you. Your vision is the only path forward."

"Good. Every drop of blood spilled today is an investment in the future of our family. The twins will understand. They are blessed to be a part of this foundation. We are purifying this rotten world, piece by piece, and purification requires a fire. Do you believe that, Manami?"

"I do," she breathed, the suffocating pressure replaced by an intoxicating sense of purpose. "We are the only ones who can do this."

"Exactly." Geto finally released her hands. "Never lose sight of the grand design."

Suda took a breath, pulling herself back into her role. "Should I prepare a counter-strategy for Jujutsu High's inevitable arrival? If they trace the residual energy..."

"Don't worry," Geto replied. "I completely wiped Aogashima island clean of all my curses' signatures and had my curses eat the corpses before I left. There is absolutely nothing left for them to find on that island."

"What do we do now?"

"We wait for the boy to wake up."

Waking up from a coma was kinda like going to sleep. You close your eyes and the next moment you wake up, a long time has gone.

Rather than a field of flowers, Naruto woke up in a completely different field.

A vast field of golden reeds stretched across the rolling hills. Their feathery plumes shimmering in shades of cream, pale gold, and warm amber beneath the soft sunlight. A gentle breeze swept through the grasses, sending waves of movement rippling across the landscape. The delicate stalks swayed together, their silvery tips catching the light with every passing gust. Beyond the reeds, the hills rose and fell in gentle slopes, their tawny surfaces broken by scattered shrubs and clusters of dark evergreen trees.

Naruto didn't know why but he felt one with this sea of autumn grass.

"Were you expecting to wake up in the innate world of our mother?"

He turned to the new voice, expecting his parents, and found himself instead. Another boy stood at the edge of the field. This doppelganger was identical except for his piercing red eyes and pitch-black sclera.

"Hey, you're that guy I saw before pops sealed my chakra network."

"The name's Yami Naruto."

"Cringe," Naruto said, instantly rolling out of the way of a sudden kick. "So, why are you here?"

"Why did you use the Kyuubi's chakra?"

Naruto blinked. "What?"

"You heard me."

"I was desperate! The twins were about to—"

"Desperate." Yami Naruto spat the word out as though the very thought disgusted him. "Tell me, what do you think would've happened if you'd defeated that skeleton? The seal would've broken, and the Kyuubi would've been unleashed upon the world. The Twins, Geto, and every other living soul on this planet would've to deal with a calamity."

The words pierced Naruto's heart.

"You're always so desperate to draw upon the Kyuubi's power, yet you never seem nearly as desperate to grow stronger on your own."

Naruto's hands clenched into fists.

"What the hell do you know about me?!" he snapped. "You don't know anything about what I've been through! So who are you to judge me? Who the hell are you?!"

"Isn't it obvious? I'm the part of you that you don't look at."

Naruto closed the distance and swung.

But the moment their skin met, Naruto felt a horrifying twist. His forearm suddenly contorted. His flesh and wrist spiraling inward like wrung-out cloth. His bones groaned under an unseen, twisting force. Naruto recoiled, gasping as his arm snapped back into shape. He felt the exact same sensation of energy from curse spirits. Yami Naruto wasn't using chakra at all. He was using Cursed Energy.

"How...?"

"Always rushing in without a plan," Yami said, unbothered. "Has that ever actually worked for you? Or does it just look like it worked because the Kyuubi cleaned up afterward?"

Naruto rushed back in with a furious combination. Yami slipped the first punch, deflected the second with a casual flick of his wrist, and placed a single finger dead-center on the original's chest.

A spiraling hole tore through the space on Naruto's chest, twisting the air and blasting the breath from his lungs. The kinetic force sent the original crashing onto the field.

"Haku," Yami said, walking forward. "You want to tell me that was your hard work? A week of throwing yourself at a tree and you could suddenly match someone like that?"

"Yeah, and?!"

Yami Naruto kicked him hard in the ribs. "Did you forget that it was Kyuubi that allowed you to win?"

"..."

"Neji. The month of training you did before the finals was something. I'll give you that. And yet, the training didn't allow you to win. It was the Kyuubi. I wonder how the fate-obsessed Neji would've reacted if he knew the truth."

"Shut up!"

"Kimimaro. Sasuke. The Gashadokuro!" Yami Naruto yelled out. "Every time you hit a wall, you reach for the exact same shortcut!"

He looked down at him with red eyes that didn't carry contempt so much as disappointment.

"Do you know why you keep hitting that wall?"

Naruto said nothing.

"Because the shortcut was always there. You cheated through graduation. The first round of the Chunin Exams was about not giving up. The one thing you can do without any actual skill at all. Orochimaru decided not to kill you. You won against Kiba because you farted. You caught Kabuto off guard."

"..."

"You always lucked into victory. And because there was always something to catch you, you never had to build anything real to stand on."

The original roared, forcing himself to his feet and grabbing Yami tightly by the collar of his jacket. "I'll let you talk shit all you want! But let me remind you that my parents sealed away the fox so I can use its power!"

Yami Naruto gave back a grin so sharp and wicked it sent chills straight down Naruto's spine.

"Now with the seal gone... you can't use that power."

Naruto yelled right back into his face. "Who cares?! You think I can't get stronger on my own?!"

Yami violently kicked him off, sending him skidding back across the field.

"Naruto, what's the difference between a king and his horse?"

The original opened his mouth.

"I don't mean some kiddy stuff like one has four legs and the other has two, or one's a person and one's an animal."

The original closed his mouth.

"If their form, ability, and power are exactly the same, why is it that one becomes the king and leads them into battle, while the other becomes the horse and carries the king? So what's the characteristic that distinguishes these two beings?"

Naruto stared, the answer completely eluding him.

"There's only one answer! INSTINCT!" Yami shouted, his Cursed Energy flaring, causing the golden reeds around them to shred into pieces. "In order for those with identical power to become stronger and gain the power necessary to become king, they must possess a raw desire for battle and power! They must thirst for battle and ruthlessly crush, shred, and slice their enemies! Deep within our body lies the sharpened instinct to kill and slaughter!"

"Why are you telling me this crap?!"

"Because I want to be the king."

Despite the wave of dread washing over him, Naruto held his hands up in cross-hand sign. The king wasn't going down without a fight.
