The moment he gripped Shade's hand and he did the same as they both prepared to take the oath that will bind them for as long as they both live or until one person betrays the others. It had happened to him once, even though Ethan was never originally meant to be his Beta, he had won the challenge therefore giving him no choice.
The ritual solidified their bond as Shade pledged his loyalty to him as his Beta and fighting partner. The others watch the ceremony quietly, probably reminiscing about their own ceremony. Using the corner of his eyes, he kept a close watch on Alec.
Hilda concluded the oath ritual and Shade bowed his head respectively, surrendering his loyalty and he tapped his shoulder, indicating that he accepted and will return his as well. Cheers rang out around them and in a not so far off distance, an alarm sound went off.
