Chapter 1 - Renatus

Death hadn't been very bad, sure it was painful but it had at least been quick. I had woken in a room I didn't recognize when I opened my eyes. It looked like some old apartment room from the 90s. After a few seconds of looking around I felt pain in my head. The pain quickly developed into a horrible migraine, it was worse than every headache I had ever experienced in my previous life.

I shoved myself back into the bed I had woken up in and covered myself with the blanket. I didn't know how long I had been there but the pain eventually went away and I got up to find I had drenched myself and the bed in sweat. I got up and grabbed a change of clothes from my dresser and left my room to take a shower. In the shower I had enough energy to go over what had happened to me.

The migraine had started and I quickly passed out from the pain. A bit after the pain left my brain began processing the knowledge that had been opened to it. I had been reborn as a young orphaned wizard at the same age as Harry Potter. My mother had died to an unknown magical curse she had been inflicted with when she was young.

I had inherited everything we had and she was buried not long after. They me of this world was young and childish and couldn't handle his mother's death. He locked himself in his room and accidentally used magic to make anyone who came to check on him forget about it. He stayed here till he died of dehydration. My soul had somehow crossed over and entered the empty body and revitalized it somehow.

After the shower I realized I was starving and went to the kitchen to get something to eat. I sat at the table stuffing my mouth for a few hours and barely got through the recent memories. My mother had gotten drunk before her death and told me of my father and how they met. She had gotten extremely drunk at a party of some sort and a man had attempted to take her while she was out of it. Another man had appeared and fought the man off and sat with her till the party ended and she had dragged him to her place and the got busy.

He left the next day and disappeared back to wherever he had come from. She described him as a handsome black haired man with a nice beard who was always trying to have fun. She also said that he was definitely British and that was the reason she had set it up for me to go to live in Britain and go to the magic school there. She had used some kind of spell that told her that he was a powerful wizard and she wanted me to have the power to protect myself, so she thought I could gave that power at the same school he had gone to.

After going over those memories I began preparing for the move. She had set it up so I could live by myself with a house elf she had bought. I had to get my stuff to the docks by tomorrow and use the wizard transport stuff at the boat to go the Britain legally. I new that in the wizarding world that America was incredibly strict about magic and the statute of secrecy.

This strictness would make going to Britain take longer so I quickly packed two suitcases and a backpack then sold everything I couldn't carry. Finally ready I went to the docks and boarded the boat at an early time as it would in the morning. I stayed in my room in the boat for 6 days, only coming out to eat and watch the waves some.

I was ushered off the boat and followed the map I had to the place my mother had spent most of her fortune getting. It was a small apartment in Leicester square. It was near both Diagon Alley and Kings Cross Station. When I entered the apartment I found a very enthusiastic house elf who was exited about me finally arriving. After a few days acclimating to this new place I decided to go to Diagon Alley and look around.

After around an hour of wandering with my map I found the Leaky Cauldron and went to the back of the bar. I still remembered the brick to press and I went through the moving wall. I made my way through the groups of oddly dressed people to Gringotts. At the steps to the bank I read through the iconic warning in the front;

Enter, stranger, but take heed

Of what awaits the sin of greed

For those who take, but do not earn,

Must pay most dearly in their turn.

So if you seek beneath our floors

A treasure that was never yours,

Thief, you have been warned, beware

Of finding more than treasure there.

Inside the large ornate hall were long and high counters with doors behind them all leading to other parts of the bank. I looked around and eventually found a counter with a sign on it simply labeled inheritance. I figured I might as well try my luck before I exchanged a bunch of muggle currency for wizard coins. I walked up to the desk and knocked on it a few times then waited.

After 5 minutes of standing there an ugly goblin head popped out over the top which I couldn't see over. He took one look at me and motioned a nearby guard to bring something. He came back after a bit with a step stool and handed it to me. I told him thank you and he looked at me strangely then left. With the stool I could see over the counter and properly speak with the goblin.

After a minute of looking at papers and writing in some inane language he looked up and said "What do you want little boy?" He was pretty rude but I was fine with it as he probably dealt with rude wizards all day. "I'd like to do an inheritance test sir." He frowned at my politeness and shuffled through some papers then handed some to me on a clipboard with a quill.

There was no ink in reach so I guessed it was self inking and read over the papers. They basically had a bunch of legal jargon about this and that, and freed them from anything that might happen to me during the test unless they purposely did it themselves. I signed the paper after looking over it a few times then the goblin took me back to a simply furnished room where a paper with runes sat. We both sat opposite each other and he basically told me that I shouldn't expect much.

He gave me a small needle to draw a single drop of blood with and drop it on the paper. After doing so the paper morphed and showed a family tree of some sort. At the top I saw two names I recognized, Black and Malfoy. The goblin and I were stunned for a bit but he quickly recomposed himself and sent another goblin to get something. After a few minutes of looking at the tree a new goblin walked in holding a small black box.

This was likely the black family ring. I was related to the Malfoys through a long removed squib and the blacks through my father who I could see had passed away via the tree. This showed me that I wasn't in the original Harry Potter series as my father Sirius Black was dead. The goblin approached me and opened the box to a large golden ring with the Black family crest on it.

I removed the ring at his behest and slid it onto my left hand pinky finger. When the ring didn't appear to do anything I looked up to see both goblins had taken cover behind the small couch the first one had been sitting on. They got up after realizing the ring hadn't reacted negatively and quickly composed themselves. After that I learned that the new goblin was the black family account manager and we both ended up doing a lot of paperwork and other family business things.

After around 3 hours of paperwork we had finished and I requested to go to the vault I now suddenly owned. I was led to the mine cart and we rode down to the deeper parts of the bank. The ride was actually quite fun as it felt like a very dangerous roller coaster and I felt safe as I could feel some kind of magic keeping me in the cart. The ride down was quite long as my ears had popped at least twice and I was dry from the magic waterfall at the beginning.

The vault opened a small hole with the black crest on it at the goblins touch and I pressed the ring to it. The door opening reminded me of the fallout vault doors and rolled out of the way. The room was massive and was filled with stacks upon stacks of gold and other wizard coins. At the back of the vault was a massive raw amethyst geode cut in half which covered the entire back wall.

Under the amethyst was a single bookshelf and a table in front of that. Around the table and bookshelf lay hundreds of ingots of unknown metal. I walked to the table and found it was covered in multiple boxes of varying sizes. Each box had a number on top of it that corresponded with a book on the shelf. I went through all of them within 30 minutes and sorted out the contents I wanted to take.

The first box had a bunch of silver jewelry that could at will transform into armor and weapons that were all heavily enchanted for werewolf hunting. The earrings tuned into a helmet, a chain necklace into a cuirass, two rings into a shield and spear, and wrist and ankle bracelets into full arm and leg armor. The next item I took was a black glove with gold gilding designs on it.

The book it had described it as a focus for telekinetic magics. It was like a wand that boosted control over silent spell casting of magics that dealt with movement and gravity. The next box was full of wands with a small paper wrapped around each with a number. The numbers corresponded with pages in the boxes book and I quickly went through testing them to find one that fit me.

The one I found was a pair of glasses, the description says they were heavily enchanted to allow the wearer to see anything at anytime. I put them on and the world shifted. I could suddenly see colors that didn't exist and things floating around everywhere that made me feel something whenever I focused on one. I could see multiple flows of colors and energies leaving, entering, and coming from this room and going all over the place.

This information overload reminded me of when I had unlocked my memories and passed out from the pain. I quickly yanked off the glasses and shoved them in my pocket. I slipped the glove in and grabbed the silver jewelry box then found a small expanded bag near the entrance and filled it with galleons, sickles, and knuts. I left the vault and went back up to the main floor of the bank and left to send the rest of the day in Diagon Alley.

I spent the remaining hours I had before heading back by getting an expanded suitcase and filling it with books, clothing, and foods. The books were everything I could find on magic and the methods to use it. The clothes I bought were normal wizard robes and other stuff so I could blend in better as all I had was normal muggle clothing. The food was just a lot of snacks and a few magically preserved meals.
