A boy, around sixteen, lounged on his couch, manga in hand, lazily flipping through the pages of Attack on Titan while sipping on a can of soda. The TV buzzed softly in the background with the anime on the screen.
That is, until a flicker of movement caught his eye.
"What the hell…?" he thought, staring wide-eyed as a massive truck barreled straight toward his window.
Wait. I'm on the 30th floor… How the hell—?!
The glass shattered, metal crunched, and everything went white as the truck tore through his living room like it was made of paper.
Ah, crap… Did I forget to take the chicken out of the freezer?
...Meh, doesn't matter now.

"Well there's somethin' ya don't see everyday." Yami took a drag as he looked at the figure on the tree.
It was the boy in his new life sitting on the base of a tree whose body looks like it was thrown from a building into a storm then catapulted all the way across the continent yet somehow intact.
"What are ya tryin' to be one with the tree or something" Yami got up from his fishing spot and was now walking towards the boy who just crashed into a tree
"Huh?" The boy was naturally confused as he got up, his new white hair already messy went all over the place as the wind blew. "Who are you–?!"
Yami stood before him and he recognized him. 'Thank fuck I was reading attack on titan! I thought I was going to end up in it.' People can tell dreams are dreams on a subconscious level. 'This isn't a dream is it. Oh well, I'll go with the flow for now. At least I have a chance to survive here.'
"Oi, you listening to me?" Yami's voice got a little bit firmer.
"Hmm, yeah sorry I… uh hit my head really hard." the boy scratched the back of his head as Yami looked at him. His clothes were all torn up, his green eyes showed no indication of lying. What he didn't know? He'd nearly flattened Yami on impact.
"Hell of an introduction," Yami mused, rubbing his stubble. "You're interestin'. What's your name?"
'Shit what should I tell him, this is the time to recreate my identity no way I am telling him my name is Archibaldoso who even names their kid that?' The boy thought for a second and a strand of white hair fell over his face. "My name is White."
Yami narrowed his eyes. No doubt he saw past the lie but didn't say anything. "Alright so where's your grimoire?"
"Uh… I don't have one" Yami knew it was the truth so he simply believed it.
'Ah shit what do I do now? I am in a magic world with no magic but it's weird. I feel life all around me now and I don't know how to explain it's like suddenly entering a sauna.' the boy thought to himself.
"There's a grimoire tower just that way." Yami pointed to the east where a tower wasn't too far off.
'Huh, that's convenient.' White looked to where Yami pointed. 'Damn I kind of wish I chose a different name, oh well I guess White is simple enough.'
White walked into the Grimoire tower Yami followed behind out of curiosity. "Huh, what are you doing here?"
"What, you look interesting so I followed you." Yami said as he also entered.
White raised his hands in the air waiting, one second passed nothing, two seconds nothing.
"What are you defective or somethin'" Yami remarked. "What a weirdo."
White put his hand down. 'Damn magic can't be used without a grimoire in this world damnit magic is everything I probably can't even get a job.'
"Wow you have so much mana yet nothing." Yami said.
*WHAM*
Just as White was going to say anything a massive grimoire fell on top of his head sending him to the ground.
"Well that's some way of getting a grimoire." Yami laughed at this. "You alive down there?"
White said nothing past a bunch of grumbles as he got off the ground. "Damn it that fuckin hurt!."
Yami laughed as he examined the grimoire.
He dusted himself off as he looked at the Grimoire; it was about 21 inches tall, 19 inches across and 4 inches thick. On it were a variety of weapons embedded on the white cover a spear on the top right corner an axe on the lower left a bow on the upper left and and finally a shield on the lower right there is a cross on the cover grey intersecting at the center which hosts a 4 leaf clover on a 4 pointed star that is surrounded by a ring of swords that point outwards.
'Holy shit I am lucky!!!' White starred in amazement at his own grimoire.
Yami looked at White. "I lead a squad of misfits and well you seem like you'll fit right in, so how about it? Interested in Joining"
'Well it's not like I have any better options, it's not like I know how to actually use mana.' "Sure why not, let me just check something out."
The grimoire activated by a thought. 'So that's how that works now, let's see what I have here.' The pages flipped forward each page had a spell on it; they were all weapons it stopped at one that caught white's eye.
[Armament Magic: Hammer of Archibaldoso] 'What a disgusting name.' White thought to himself before quickly putting it away before he even fully took it out all that he did take was the black handle. 'Let's try again.'
[Armament Magic: White's Buster Sword Shield x Sword hybrid] a sword came out of the grimoire, a large white sword twice the size of White himself single edged buster sword. He did a few moves with it that were completely impractical.
"Not bad kid, looks good." Yami said just before he ducked. "Hey watch where you're swinging that thing."
"My bad." White looked at the sword. There were vein-like channels on it and he could sense some more inside. 'How do I put mana in this?'
As white poured some of his mana in nothing happened for him as he shot them into the defense veins he only reinforced the sword. However for Yami who is able to sense mana better he saw a shield go up around White for a few seconds.
'Oh well guess I'll learn as I go.' White wasn't disheartened as it was his first attempt using mana. "So when are we going to the base?"
Yami looked at me. "When my ride gets here."
'Should have figured, well I have some time to practice before Luck kills me.'
