Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: First Blood, First Beast

"Another pillar has fallen, My Liege. "

I sat comfortably on my large throne, my eyes gazing across the throne room.

"The whole underworld will be yours soon, Nya~" The near-nude catgirl strewn across my lap mewed.

"The underworld…?" I muttered, staring at the line of soldiers kneeling in front of my throne. I breathed out, steam blowing outward and becoming visible in the cold air.

"No, not just the underworld," I continued, my eyes glowing a slight red.

"THE WHOLE WORLD WILL BE MINE!"

However, I wasn't always the Beast King. In fact, not long ago, I had been…

—-

I groaned, forcing my eyes open as my head ached. My entire body felt sore as I stared up into the dark night sky.

I felt like I had been hit by a truck.

…which, I think I had been? My head was pounding, but my last memory was a huge truck speeding at me.

I forced myself to sit up, looking around at my surroundings. Grass cushioning the ground under me, large trees towering around me, and…

"That's not normal," I muttered, staring up at the night sky. Instead of the usually pitch-black sky filled with stars, it was… weird.

Flashing lines crossed in the air, creating a northern-lights-esque effect, and there were no stars littering the sky. Instead of the usual black, the sky was a mixture of colors: some black, a hint of red, some green, and some purple.

I didn't have to be a genius to connect the dots.

"I got isekai'd," I concluded, staring up at the strange sky.

The sky didn't immediately confirm to me what world I was in - there were a lot of places with fucked up skys.

Well, there were worse things that could come from being hit by a semi-truck. At least I wasn't dead.

And, hey, maybe I got reincarnated into one of those cheat-skill isekais!

"Stats!" I said confidently, staring at the space in front of me. A second passed, and then… nothing happened.

"Observe?" I asked, less confident this time. Once again, nothing happened.

"Not a game isekai, huh? Damn. " I sighed, then jumped as I heard something rustle to the side of me.

A bush moved, and then something crawled out from inside of it.

It looked like a wolf - and not a baby one. It was huge, like, absurdly huge.

I'd seen some big dogs in my life, but this one looked to be close to 5 feet in height even while on all fours.

It was also thick - a big bushy layer of blue fur covering its entire body. Its red eyes locked onto me and it slowly stepped forward.

A tag suddenly appeared above him.

[Dire Wolf] - Level 2

Wait, it is a game isekai? Never mind, no time to think about that.

I glanced down at my body, which looked exactly the same as it had in my past life. I was tall, standing at 6 foot 4 - wait, no, my body wasn't the same.

While I had been 6 foot 4, my body seemed longer now.

I couldn't tell how much taller from just a glance, but I seemed more than a few inches taller. The rest of my body was the same, as I was decently muscular from playing sports all my life.

I had a casual white T-shirt on and a pair of black shorts.

More importantly, my pockets were still full. I quickly shoved my right hand into my pocket, pulling out my large phone, while my left hand pulled out a small pocket knife that I kept on me.

These two items wouldn't be my first choice to defend myself against a giant wolf, but they were all I had. I flicked open the knife, holding it in front of me as I jumped to my feet.

The dire wolf growled, taking another step toward me.

"I'm not food, alright?" I said, pointing the knife at him. Preferably, I wouldn't like to fight a human-sized wolf, but I didn't think I'd be able to outrun him either.

If I can't scare him off, then I'll be forced to fight with just this small knife.

My words didn't seem to reach the beast, and a second later he jumped forward. I stumbled to the side, the wolf's teeth tearing through the air as he landed next to me.

I leaned down, cocking my arm back and stabbing forward with the small knife. The knife shot forward, pushing into the wolf's huge fur coat and… breaking in half.

The tip of the blade slammed into his fur, then turned unnaturally to the side as it snapped off, leaving me with just the small handle.

"Well… shit," I muttered, switching to plan B.

I turned around and ran like my life depended on it.

Hey, bitch move, I know, but I don't plan on dying today!

Unfortunately, this plan was also pretty shitty. While I wasn't a track star or anything in my past life, I was still decently fast.

The dire wolf just happened to be a lot faster - like, supernaturally fast.

He barreled into my legs, tripping me as I fell flat on my back.

-5HP! (95/100)

Ok, definitely a game isekai. Not the time to think about that though, as theres a giant wolf jumping on me.

I shoved my hands up, my hands pressing into the wolf's chest as the giant beast jumped on top of me.

A growl came from the wolf's throat as its teeth snapped down, inches away from my face as I held it back. Drool dripped down onto my cheek, and I grunted as I shoved upwards again and pushed the wolf away a little.

Fuck, what now?

My eyes looked around as my muscles tensed, barely holding away the wolf. The only things nearby were the small handle of the pocket knife and my phone which I had dropped when the wolf tackled me

I pushed my head back into the grass under me as the wolf snapped forward again, its maw inches from my face as its clawed foot tore into my chest while it stood on me.
