Chapter 3 - In the inbetween

My gaze settled in the chandelier above.it was the first thing I noticed when I woke up.

It was a silver color with dazzling white lights that came down in tiny tear drop shaped glass.

I moved my eyes around the room there wasn't any clock to know the time with. There was also a floor to ceiling sliding glass door that leads to the balcony, a sitting area with three velvet sofas and a table at the middle.

The whole room gave off a clean and modern vibe.

"You're awake" i looked to the door to find the man with the mask standing there.

I gave a nod feeling my throat was too dry to speak.

"Water?" He asked coming to the bedside with s glass of water that came out of thin air. He brought the glass to my lips even though my hand worked just fine.

After taking a couple of gulps, I felt much better; enough to speak.

"Where am I?" I asked

"You are in my abode" he replied vaguely.

"And where did this abode of yours located"

"In he inbetween" again came his short reply.

I was beginning to feel irritated by his shirt answers.

"Where or what is this 'inbetween'" i pressed on.

"I would answer your questions but first let's get you something to eat" he said already walking towards the door.

That was when I felt it; i was starving. The hunger gnawed at my insides like i hadn't eaten for days.

"Wait, how long was I asleep for?" I called before he walked out of the room.

He paused and without turning to look at me said "five days."

'F-five days? FIVE DAYS!!'

I sat on the bed she'll shocked. I was asleep for five whole days.

'Everyone must be worried about me. They must have—'

All the memories of that night came crashing down on me—the clock, the shadows, the screams...the blood.

I felt a lang in my chest and i was suddenly filled with sadness.

"That's right, I couldn't save them again" I whispered sadly, but then i say up straight as a gasp escaped my lips.

"Again? What do i mean to by 'again'?" Mused.

My stomach took that queue to let out a growl.

'food first answers later'

I made my way through the silent hall. The lay out of the house was simple yet elegant. It was easy to find the dining room.

I walked into the dining room and found the masked man already seated at the head of the table with an array of dishes laid out.

I took a seat at the masked man's right.

"I didn't know what you were craving so I made all your favorites" he voiced out, his posture the definition of insouciance.

I picked a piece of steak and put it in my mouth. All at once the flavor hit my tongue embracing my taste buds in tantalizing delight.

The meat was slightly crispy on the outside while it was soft and chewy in the inside. It was just the right amount cooked. The sauce was a little spicy and all the ingredients mixed up perfectly just how I like it.

I couldn't help but let out a moan at the delicious dish.

"You cooked this?" I asked after swallowing.

"I did"

"It's very delicious" I stated digging into my meal with fervor.

I was half done eating when I noticed the masked man hadn't yet touched his food.

"Aren't you eating?" I questioned, suddenly feeling conscious of the way i was eating.

"It's alright" his intense gaze continued to linger on my face and I felt my self getting hotter.

"Um..." I looked away embarrassed.

He chuckled which caused shivers to run down my spine

He picked up his cutlery and began to eat so i picked mine and did the same.

We finished our meal and moved to the living room where hopefully I'd get all my questions answered.
