Chapter 4 - chapter 5

Governor Clinton Morrison enters the prison to visit his old friend, Barfoot. He begins to speak with him.

Clinton: "Hello, my friend. Did you enjoy your last meal? My daughter cooked it herself."

Barfoot remains silent and doesn't respond to the governor's question.

Clinton: "Listen, I know you're angry with me, but you have to understand that my job as governor is to protect my kingdom and my people. What I did to Kortan made my kingdom the safest place on the planet, and I intend to keep it that way. I don't want you going to the other kingdoms and advancing them — that would pose a great threat to mine. They might use that technology to attack us. I hope you understand my reasons and my position. And I hope you abandon your goal. If you do, I'll release you."

Barfoot remains silent and still.

Clinton grows angry and says,

Clinton: "Fine. Stay here and rot in prison. Just remember — this was your choice."

---

Meanwhile, the battle between Connor and Onan begins. Connor strikes at Onan with his lightsaber, but Onan blocks the attack. Connor is shocked that a metallic sword can block a lightsaber strike. Onan punches Connor in the face.

At that moment, Connor realizes that his opponent is not just some ordinary criminal he deals with every week. So he decides to get serious and fight at his best.

The battle continues and it seems the two are evenly matched — it's hard to say who will win. The clashing of the Araxys sword with the lightsaber produces a beautiful, almost symphonic sound.

Onan tries as much as he can to disarm Connor, and then lands a blow that knocks Connor unconscious. He doesn't want to kill him.

Connor swings his lightsaber and rips Onan's mask off completely, revealing Onan's face.

Onan's thoughts:

(Damn. He saw my face. I can't leave now — he'll describe me to the investigators and they'll hunt me down. The only way to escape this mess… is to kill him... But he's not a criminal. I only kill criminals. He's just someone trying to stop me from stealing. I'm the bad guy here.)

Onan hesitates, unsure what to do. This gives Connor the opportunity to disarm him and defeat him.

Connor is about to kill Onan, but then remembers his sister's criticism. He decides instead to take him to prison.

---

Hours later, scientists examine the sword Onan was using and try to determine its origin. Not many people know about the existence of the Araxys beast — most who have seen it are dead.

In the interrogation room, a police officer is angrily questioning Onan:

Officer: "I'll ask you one last time — how did you get that sword? And who trained you? There's no way you could fight a Light Knight like that!"

Onan remains silent.

Officer: "Do you want us to torture you to get the answers? Is that what you want, boy?"

Onan: "Do whatever you want. I'm not telling you anything about my sword. In fact, I enjoy seeing you like this — angry and clueless. It's entertaining."

The officer loses his temper and hits Onan, then sends him back to his cell.

---

Onan's thoughts in his cell:

(Man… I'm such a hypocrite. I refused to work with my uncle Shin because his operations were illegal, and then I ended up working with Jito — who's also a criminal... No, there's a difference. Shin is crazy. He believes in some empire from another universe planning to invade us. His followers were idiots for believing him and working with him. I'm not stupid like them... Still, I deserve to be here. I worked for a gang leader. I tried to steal from the government. I'm a bad person and I deserve this... Wait... Is it really my fault? If the governor focused on helping the needy, there wouldn't be any criminals in the first place… Okay, now I'm just making excuses for myself, or—skdjbv84&@&* screw this. Why am I thinking so much?? I hate overthinking, and I hate how my thoughts are always so messed up...*)

Onan's train of thought is interrupted when Samantha walks in to speak with him.

Samantha: "Your name is Onan, right? Onan MacRicker? I knew your father. He was the best doctor in Kortan. He even treated me once. He was a kind man… but how could a man like him raise a criminal like you?"

Onan: "Yeah, I know. I'm a disgrace to the family."

Samantha: "My brother told me you lowered your guard when your mask was torn. Which means you didn't try to kill him — and that caught my interest. You still have some goodness in your heart."

Onan: "What do you want from me, princess? I'm not in the mood to talk about what I've done. I already think about it all the time."

Samantha: "I'm trying to help you. I want to understand the psychological problems that made you turn to crime — and how we can change that."

Onan: "Why do you even care? You have your palace, your money, your luxurious life. Why waste your time on someone like me?"

Samantha: "Because… I feel like I owe your father. He saved me, and I want to repay that debt by helping his son. And not just that — I want to change all criminals for the better. I know it sounds difficult — maybe even impossible. But I'm going to be the ruler in a few years, and I want to create a system that gives every citizen their rights — to the point where there's no reason left to become a criminal."

Onan is touched by Samantha's words — though he still wants her to leave.

Onan: "…Just go. I want to be alone."

As she's leaving, Samantha says one last thing:

Samantha: "Just remember — there's always a second chance."
