Chapter 1 - A Day before...

Within the rainy season of today, I looked up hoping for the sun to come. It's been days since I last saw the bright sun of ours, all my clothes smell and are wet due to the bad weather.

Not only that...., I'm so freaking bored right now, after playing and watching on my phone nonstop this day. I finally hit rock bottom of boredom, to the point I just wanted to run outside and play on the rain.

But I didn't want to get sick either—being sick while living alone is a death sentence. I sighed and looked at my phone and said:

"I hate the rainy season."

Growl~

Hearing my stomach growl, I went inside my room for my wallet to go to the nearest local diner in my hometown.

Even though I can cook for myself with some noodles with an egg, I still decided to go to a diner.

The past three days, I've been eating that non-stop, so today I actually get some real food.

Not some instant noodles but an actual meal with vegetables and meat on them.

Walking near the door, I remembered it was raining, and I felt disappointed in myself for forgetting this.

Seeing that the rain won't stop for a good time, I went to my room and grabbed a towel and my umbrella to use.

Putting the towel on my head and opening my umbrella, I set out on my path to the local diner.

As I walked, I looked around the neighborhood and saw how everyone treated their rainy season.

One of the uncle I know is on their balcony drinking coffee without a care for the world.

Tita Leya, on the other side, looked over her plants and put them where the water is dripping from the roof the most.

Tita Marie watched at the window, while the children in their house played in the rain.

Some houses had their doors locked tight... though from one, I swear I heard someone moaning.

Nope—not my business.

Leaving the neighborhood area, I was finally on the road, from this point on. I needed to spend a good hour and twenty minutes, of walking just to get to the diner.... Maybe this was a mistake.

But I stayed clear of my goal.

A couple of minutes passed by, and I was still walking all alone, cold and miserable in this rain.

Looking from afar, I saw a waiting shed nearby, seeing this, I sped up my walk and waited for it for a bit.

A couple more minutes, I spotted a motorcycle with a sidecar, even though I wanted to ride on it, I didn't call out for it.

Mostly cause I don't have enough money to pay for both my meal and for it. But it stopped in front of me?

"Hoy! Cain, get in already will you!?" The uncle said to me.

"I don't have money to pay you though!" I answered back in embarrassment.

"Don't bother... you're going to be at the local diner, right? I'm going to your aunt Marlin, since her place is in that direction. I'll give you a free ride," Uncle Jake said to me.

"Besides, why are you acting like I don't know you. Don't you remember I used to wash your butt, till you were three," Uncle said while giggling to me.

"Alright! Just don't tell me that again."

While on the way there, Uncle told me an old story I had already heard before, but nonetheless, I listened carefully to him and even laughed at some stories.

Nearing the place, the uncle slowed down and pulled the motorcycle to the side. I looked at him and asked why he stopped.

Uncle only looked at me and said to get out of the sidecar for a bit, since he needed to grab something inside.

After going down and grabbing the thing he wanted inside of it uncle finally told me to get inside to not let me get wet by the rain.

"Here!" Uncle said to me while giving me a metallic object.

Looking at it, I found a small flipped knife about the size of my hand. I looked at him and asked why he gave it to me. He answered:

"It's your mother's flipped knife from years ago. After your mom died. I went and grab it before that asshole father of yours, found it, I been keeping it on me," he said trying not to looked at me in the eye.

"Flip the knife out, and you see how good it is. Keep it on you safe, do you know how hard it was to recreate it back to its former look?. Hahaha, anyway, make sure you hold on to that carefully since it's the last thing your mother holds dear, except for you."

"Is that so...., I make sure to keep it nicely. By the way, why now? Couldn't you give this to me years ago?" I asked looking at it being repaired for a long time.

"Oh, that easy, heard the kidnapping happening in the next village, used that to stab them, if you ever become the target." Uncle said while laughing.

I only looked at him with my mouth half open, disappointed knowing this is one of my godfathers.

But seeing the blade of the knife in good quality I clench on it tightly.

*****

"Here's your stop." Uncle said stopping right infront of the diner. "Right.., here some money for you too!"

He said, pulling out multiple thousands of pesos and giving them to me. I shamelessly took it.

Saying goodbye to him, I turn back to the diner.

The local diner was not the best of the best, it was near a tree with some plywood stitched together, to make a wall and some bamboo shoots to create the counter where the food was.

A large balcony with no walls allowing traveling folks to know there's a diner in this place, with four tables with either two or four seats on them.

The roof that protects them from the falling water is made with a blue shade cloth that's probably recycled from their last rice harvest.

Although I said there were no walls in the balcony, there was a clear shade cloth on the side, somewhat protecting the customer from the rain.

Forget about how the diner looks, I went forward to the counter and looked at what dish they were serving today.

Kaldereta, Afritada, Tinola, Pakbet, Sinigang, Pancit, Adobo, and Dinugoan.

There's also some breakfast dish like, eggs, hotdogs, sopas, and fried rice.

"So what will it be?" The tita asked me what I'll pick.

I pointed at the Tinola Dish to fight against the cold, and some side dishes of hot dogs and eggs.

Patiently waiting for her to scoop them for me, I spotted some homeless dogs on the corner of the diner, cold and hungry.

Not wanting to deal with them, I decided to go to the other corner of the diner to avoid them.

Not like I'm a hater of animals, but I'm not responsible for everything, that's happening around me.

Just because I can make a change, that doesn't mean I will make a change.

*****

Putting my food on the table, I looked at both sides before dropping the side soup on my rice.

"Tita! Can I have more soup please!" I yelled out to her after pouring the entire bowl of soup over the rice.

After receiving my side soup again, I took a sip of it, feeling the warmth of it, refreshing my cold body.

Grabbing the fork and spoon of mine, I pressed the rice and scooped it into my mouth. FRESH, looked like I'm lucky today. The rice is newly made.

Looking at the side dishes I picked before. I slice the hot dog in half and eat it. The juicy and soft sensation of it felt nice while biting on it.

Grabbing the plate where the eggs, I tilted it and put the entire thing on my rice.

Slicing them apart and putting rice in my mouth again.

The food tastes good today, so I'll come back after eating all of it.

*****

Burp~

I let out a burp after eating all my food. My fatass can't move a step from my seat already.

Maybe ordering three servings of rice was not the best idea.

But nonetheless, I felt good and so did my stomach.

After a couple of minutes letting the food settle, I paid for my food, put the towel on my head, and made my way to my home.

*****

On the way home, I silently skip on the way, feeling good, I have more money now, got something from my mom's collection, eat to my fill, and even brought back some Adobo for tonight—

Beep-beep~

The truck was beeping recklessly after almost hitting me on the side of the road.

"Asshole!! Looked at where you're driving! Can't you see a civilian here," I scream out on the corner of the room, annoyed after almost getting hit by them.

Yet the truck only beeped back... People like those should get their license revoked.... Also, did that truck not have lights?

I asked myself, remembering I didn't see any lights before almost getting hit by it.

After almost dying, I decided to move to the farm land road to make sure I don't have to repeat that.

Watching a video on my phone, while moving along the road, I heard something.

Thud. Thud~

What!.., no not lighting stuck. Something like a crying baby, putting my hand on my ear, to hear clearer I heard it again.

meow~

There it is, a cat! Hearing this I looked around and tried to find where it was. I went back to the side of the road hoping to find it there, but it was nowhere to be found.

Seeing this, I went back to the farm side and tried to hear it again.~Meow~, there it is again. Meaw! I said back hoping for it to answer back.

After a couple of calls back, I found the cat. It was covered by the grass while dipped in the water, the worst part, it was tied to a rock, unable to move from its position.

Who'd do something like this? Even though I don't consider myself the nicest person out there, I'm not the type of person to do this.

Walking again with her on my arm, I wondered who I should give her to. Yes, I saved her but I can't really or want to take her with me.

Continuing my walk I heard another cat meowing again.

I thought for sure I needed to find another one to saved, but instead, I found an entire group beside a small cave hill that separates the road and farm area.

There was a mommy and more kittens inside of it -Safe- away from the rain and water.

Seeing this, I went near it, stepping into the water creek, soaking my pants completely, and placed down the one I had saved before.

Before moving again, I'd place the dish I plan to have for dinner, placing it inside the cave, and opening it for them to have. I waved back at them before moving along.

Ten minutes after I let go of the kitten I saved, I was struck down by a lightning, killing me in an instant.

Ending my life on earth.
