Chapter 6 - 6. Getting to Anchorage

Early in the morning, Li Wei, who was sound asleep in bed, suddenly felt an itch at the tip of his nose. Rubbing it a few times with his hand didn't help.

He immediately sensed something was off, abruptly opened his eyes, and saw Jessica's delicate face very close to him.

At this moment, Jessica was leaning over the side of the bed, propping her chin with one hand, while the other hand held a strand of golden hair, slowly extending towards him.

However, Li Wei's gaze was not on the golden hair in Jessica's hand.

The peaks wrapped by the hoodie in his view were compressed due to her posture, as if they could break free from the hoodie's constraint at any moment.

Li Wei even wondered in his heart if such heavy pressure would overwhelm them.

Jessica didn't expect Li Wei to open his eyes suddenly, and a trace of panic flashed across her face.

She had originally gone upstairs to call Li Wei for breakfast. Seeing him sleeping soundly, she had a sudden impulse and decided to play a prank, never expecting to be caught red-handed.

Jessica originally thought Li Wei would say something, but he said nothing. The bedroom was eerily quiet.

Then she saw Li Wei staring directly at her. Following his gaze downwards, she realized the glimpse of cleavage that had accidentally been revealed at her neckline.

"Breakfast is ready! Remember to come down and eat!"

Jessica's cheeks flushed red. Leaving that sentence behind, she fled the bedroom as if escaping, followed immediately by the sound of her footsteps "thudding" down the stairs.

Seeing that 'scenic view' disappear, Li Wei also felt a bit embarrassed. He awkwardly rubbed his nose and thought to himself, "I wonder what she ate to grow so big."

Suddenly remembering something, he quickly looked at the wall. Seeing no poster, he then recalled that he had put it away.

...

Ten minutes later, Li Wei changed into clean clothes and came to the dining room. He saw Jessica sipping milk in small sips, with a bowl of vegetable salad in front of her.

Meanwhile, Buck was eating heartily, holding a slice of pizza in one hand and a beer in the other.

Perhaps noticing Li Wei's gaze, the girl's already rosy cheeks became even redder. Coupled with her beautiful and delicate features, it made one want to reach out and pinch them.

Thinking of her recent embarrassment, Jessica couldn't help but puff out her chest, looking triumphant.

"Cough, cough, cough..."

Li Wei didn't expect Jessica to be so bold. It startled him into a coughing fit. He quickly turned his head away, pretending not to have seen anything.

Seeing Li Wei's discomfited look, Jessica, like a victorious general, wore a smug expression.

Buck was focused on eating at the moment and didn't notice his sister's little gestures. After taking a sip of beer, he said:

"Li Wei, I'm going to the dock later to check on the Sea Monster. Do you want to come along?"

"No, Buck, I plan to go to Anchorage today to find an expert to test the ambergris."

"Oh, right, I almost forgot about the ambergris."

Hearing about the ambergris, Jessica, ever the money-lover, asked:

"Buck, how much do you think the piece of ambergris Li Wei found can sell for?"

"That's hard to say. The price of ambergris varies quite a bit. Top-grade ambergris can sell for two to three hundred us dollars per gram, while ordinary ambergris is only ten or twenty us dollars."

"Why is there such a big difference in price!"

After swallowing the pizza in his mouth, Li Wei said:

"Ambergris mainly depends on its quality. The higher the quality of the ambergris, the higher the price and the better the effect."

...

At the dining table, the three of them chatted casually about the ambergris they found yesterday.

Buck suddenly remembered something, slapped his head, and said:

"Oh, right, Li Wei. When you go to Anchorage today, pick up some parts. The unscrupulous merchants in town not only sell them at high prices but the quality is also very poor."

"No problem, write me a list later."

"OK, I'll give it to you after breakfast."

The conversation quickly turned to this year's fishing season.

Alaska is rich in marine fishery resources. Located in the mid-to-high latitudes, its waters are home to a large number of cold-water fish and various marine organisms, such as True Cod, haddock, salmon, Halibut, King Crab, and Dungeness Crab.

Because of the abundant marine fishery resources here, there are seafood products available for fishing throughout the year.

It's currently March, which is the black cod fishing season. The fishing season will last from March until November.

And black cod is also one of the Sea Monster's main fishing targets.

Catching just black cod alone brings the original owner's family a six-figure income every year.

In addition, they also catch Pacific halibut and True Cod.

After breakfast, Li Wei returned to his bedroom, put the ambergris into his backpack, and prepared to drive to Anchorage to find a buyer.

Anchorage is the largest city in Alaska, with a population of over 200,000, mainly focused on trade, fishing, and timber processing industries.

If he wanted to sell the ambergris in his hand for a good price, he could only go to a large city like Anchorage.

As for going to the Eagle Country's main base, he had considered it at first, but ultimately dismissed the idea.

The reason was also simple: the value of the ambergris wasn't high enough to warrant such a great effort, and besides, even if he went to the Eagle Country's main base, he might not necessarily get a higher price.

Point is not far from Anchorage, only 300 kilometers away. For him, it was undoubtedly the best choice at the moment.

Li Wei got into the driver's seat of the F150 pickup truck and was about to start the engine when he saw Jessica staring at him with a face full of anticipation.

What man could withstand such a look, especially when the other party also held a peerless weapon hidden in her arms?

He rolled down the window and called out to Jessica:

"Get in."

"Yay!"

Hearing the desired reply, Jessica excitedly jumped up and down on the spot.

As the girl bounced, the peaks and ridges on her chest also swayed, making Li Wei feel dizzy.

"Thump, thump, thump..."

By the time the F150 engine started, Jessica had bounced over to the front of the car, pulled open the door, and sat directly in the passenger seat.

When Li Wei saw the seatbelt deeply embedded between the valleys, he couldn't help but worry about the seatbelt's safety. It was so deep, wouldn't it suffocate it?

Li Wei quickly cleared the distracting thoughts from his mind, looked straight ahead, and silently chanted in his heart:

"Emptiness is form, form is emptiness... Even true emptiness is emptiness..."

After his mood had completely calmed down, and after greeting Buck, who was also preparing to go out, the F150 pickup truck let out a roar and quickly drove out of North Star Farm.

As the pickup truck gradually moved away from the small town, the trees on both sides of the road became denser, and from time to time, wild animals could be seen crossing the road.

In many people's inherent impression, Alaska is located at the northwesternmost tip of the North American continent, surrounded by the sea on three sides, with a cold climate, constantly below zero year-round, and not suitable for human habitation.

In reality, Alaska also has many places suitable for living, such as Point, where Li Wei is located. Because of the warm current passing through, the average summer temperature is between 15°C and 26°C, and the winter temperature is between 0°C and -20°C.

As long as you don't encounter extreme weather, Point is a very good vacation spot in the summer.

Every summer, a large number of tourists come here for vacation to appreciate the magnificent and colorful scenery of Alaska.

At this moment, Li Wei was chatting with Jessica about campus life at the University of Southern California while enjoying the charming scenery outside the car window.

Majestic and steep mountain peaks, endless forests, and distant snow-capped mountains, occasionally seeing wild animals pass by – these were experiences he had never had in his previous life.

Unlike Li Wei's feelings at the moment, Jessica didn't care about the scenery outside the window at all.

She had lived in Alaska her whole life and was already used to the scenery outside the window. Instead, she was full of curiosity and longing for college and life in a big city.

When she heard about the fun places around the University of Southern California, her beautiful big eyes were filled with longing.

Li Wei empathized with Jessica's thoughts.

Isn't he the same in his previous life, longing for big cities, longing for the prosperity of big cities, longing for life in big cities?

In the end, he did achieve it, getting into a university in Jinling. It was just a pity that he hadn't had time to enjoy life in the big city. After going home for Chinese New Year, he couldn't go back.
