Ember's POV
The suitcase flew across the room and hit the wall with a loud sound.
"I can't do this!" I screamed, throwing another shirt after it. "I can't keep running and hiding like some criminal!"
Cade caught my wrist before I could throw my favorite sweater too. His touch was gentle, but his grip was firm.
"Hey, breathe," he said softly. "Look at me."
But I couldn't look at him. If I looked at him, I'd start crying again, and I was tired of being the weak girl who cried about everything.
"This is crazy," I whispered. "We're talking about leaving everything behind. Your pack, your family, your whole life."
"You're my life now."
Those words should have made me happy. Instead, they made my stomach hurt the more.
"No, I'm not. I'm just some girl you met a few nights ago."
"You're not just some girl."
"Then what am I?"
He turned me around to face him. His silver eyes were now very determined.
