Chapter 1 - — Horizon

James Porter and his allies, the five lords of humanity, were taking a space vessel into a rift in space to fight against the lord of the outer worlds. The man behind the constant onslaught of monsters that were threatening the human race. The other four members of his party were an odd bunch. Baker was the tank of the party. He had an ability to make his skin as tough as an impenetrable type of stone. And used a war hammer. The twin lancers were Lyla and Blaze, whom he had known since childhood. They were both formidable, but their true might came out when they fought together. Then there was the last member of their party. Vylette. She happened to be the weirdest. Mostly because she was freakishly strong, yet incredibly quiet. She wielded a scythe twice her size and had the ability to turn any material into ice. Including organic beings.

James wasn't anything special. Although he was the 2nd most essential member of the party. The support. James only had support abilities. They were incredibly strong though. Buffs that could multiply the mana pool of a person by threefold, restore vitality and stamina instantly, and increase physical strength twofold. And of course an incredibly useless light poison. That literally did nothing against anything that wasn't a child.

And worst of all, he couldn't even heal himself. And was more so a burden to the party. Although Lyla assured him he was not. They had been in space for about a day. And had finally reached the rift.

As they entered the rift the party put on their space suits. Everyone's suit except for James's was light as they needed their mobility. While James really didn't, so he was stuck in a puffy oversized suit. James watched the party as they put on their suits. Lyla's curly blonde hair disappeared into her helmet, while Blaze was struggling quite a bit. Blake put his on with relative ease. And Vylette simply remained silent while having no problems. Lyla spoke up once they had fully entered the rift.

"Well? What are we waiting for? Let's kill the son of a bitch!"

Blaze cheered with her as the rest of the party remained silent and they summoned their weapons. The shuttle crashed into a celestial body and they got out. Witnessing the pitch black titan looming over them. Holding two massive swords. Blake immediately dashed forward. Despite the man's size. He was surprisingly light on his feet. He took out a shield with his hammer and bashed them against each other. Attracting the attention of the lord while James gave the party a few buffs. The twin lancers blitzed forward in an instant and clashed with the Lord's two swords. They had a keen strategy. Those three would keep the attention of the lord while James focused on buffing Vylette to her limit. The two lances brimming with energy made gold and blue light erupt from where they stabbed the beast. Though nothing really seemed to be working. Blake turned his skin into stone and flung himself into the air. Slamming back into the ground and making the ground shake so the lord would lose balance. The slightest stumble had been the end of the lord. As Vylette, who was brimming with energy. Burst forward in an instant. Turning the lord into stone and slicing him into a million pieces. Killing him in an instant.

The lord seemed to…smile. As his body crumbled into dust, but his smile made James shudder. As the lord's eyes were only focused on him.

'What kind of psychopath goes out with a smile like that…'

After the battle. The five sat down on a single rock and rested. The fight went by just a bit too fast to feel satisfying. And they had received no rewards. And they also had no way to leave. As their shuttle had been crippled in the crash. Lyla groaned like an annoyed child.

"So what, are we just stuck here forever now?! All of this? Just for that? Just for us to be given no reward and be stuck here?!"

Blaze spoke up and the twins went back and forth for a solid 10 minutes. Before Blake interrupted, the giant man's booming voice made them stop in an instant.

"Shut it, you two! Be patient! There's no way nothing else is going to happen."

Vylette and James both nodded solemnly. Choosing to remain out of the conversation. As they spoke. 8 lights started to gleam. And five of them started to get closer. And five beings appeared in front of them. A golden dragon, a blue dragon, a Phoenix, an ice fairy, and a stone golem. Which was somehow floating. The golden and blue dragons took the twin lancers into a rift. And left the rest.

'What the…what the hell is happening?!'

Nothing was explained. Not to James at least. The golem took Blake away, and James was wondering which one would take him, the phoenix, or the fairy. But neither of them did. Vylette's eyes widened as the two took her away. Both of them were left in shock as she was taken into the gate like the others. And James was left alone. The three bright lights in the sky left faded.

"What…what the hell just happened?"

James didn't know how to feel. He wasn't chosen. Abandoned. And he felt his eyes getting a bit heavy. Maybe as heavy as the spacesuit he was stuck in. He felt…useless. James was waiting for death. But in truth, James couldn't die at the hands of natural causes. He couldn't use his own skills on himself, but he had a skill specially tailored for him. Adaptation. His body could adapt and survive in any natural environment including space. He could only die to another being. He took his helmet off and was met with a choking feel and his body was freezing up. And then it stopped. He could breathe in nothing as if he was breathing something. And his body warmed up again.

"Goddamnit."
