Chapter 18: The Millennium Soul Beast, the Wind Scythe Beast (part 4)

Has arrived!

In an instant, a strong breath of death overwhelmed him!

Uchiha Uran's face was as solemn as iron.

He quickly recalled that there had been no signs of soul beast fighting along the way. This meant that he was in a soul beast territory that had occupied the area surrounding the water source and expelled all living things!

How would it attack? From where? These questions anxiously lingered in his mind, making it difficult for him to analyze the situation before him.

"Now!"

Without hesitation, Uchiha Uran's eyes flashed with a sharpness. After sensing a fishy smell behind him, he suddenly plunged into the lake! The shore was shallow, but he could already feel the touch of mud splashing. If he was right, it had just missed!

Once in the water, the young man swam his body swiftly like a fish, swimming towards the center of the lake. This was the best solution he could think of in an emergency.

If he rolled sideways, the attacking spirit beast would likely swing its steel tail or use a skill at close range.

He would be too close to counterattack, as this was a forest environment, and there were no chances of skilled swimmers. And if it were, it wouldn't have attacked him from behind, but from underwater!

As expected, after diving deep into the lake, there was no movement around him. There was no sound of diving, no sound of skills hitting the surface.

Uchiha Uran knew the danger was still there. He wouldn't surface until he reached the center of the lake, safe enough. He'd been diving and swimming in the forest lake for years, and he'd assumed he'd never need it again. Unexpectedly, it had saved his life.

"Whoosh!"

About a minute later, Uchiha Uran surfaced, glancing back at his previous location, his expression grim.

A massive crater lay beneath his feet, the force of a grenade. If he hadn't acted decisively, the lower half of his body would have been gone. Near the pit, a medium-sized feline spirit beast stared at him in the lake with a murderous gaze.

"This is it?"

Uchiha Uranus first glanced at the man-sized, earthy-yellow spirit beast, then noticed the twelve black rings on its tail. His expression changed.

A 1,200-year-old wind sickle beast.

He recalled the entries in the Spirit Beast Encyclopedia. He had once taken the time to read through it. While it only listed known spirit beasts, this particular spirit beast, named Wind Scythe Beast, was among them.

If it were any other spirit beast, he might not have been so alarmed. After all, spirit beasts also need to hunt. They couldn't just stare at him. Was it not eating?

But a wind sickle beast was different. It had a mate! One could hunt while the other waited for an opportunity!

As expected, as his thoughts raced, a sharp howl echoed from the forest. The next moment, a wind sickle beast, slightly smaller and more slender than the previous spirit beast, darted out from the bushes.

The two spirit beasts stared at him intently, one of them circling the lake's edge, attempting to trap him within.

In this critical moment, Uchiha Uranium's mind raced, reflecting on a strategy while recalling the description of the Wind Scythe Beast in the Spirit Beast Encyclopedia.

It was incredibly fast, with sickle-like claws and a terrifying leaping ability. It often moved through the forest by leaping from tree to tree, seemingly flying, earning it the nickname "Wind."

It was also highly skilled in long-range attacks, emitting wind blades with a remarkable range.

"Far!"

The young man's face suddenly changed as the word suddenly struck him, and he dove headfirst into the lake.

The next moment, a wind blade landed on the surface. With a muffled thud, the lake quickly became stained red.

The young man's face paled slightly beneath the surface. The wind blade had been aimed at his head.

Blood splattered across the surface, rippled by the water, quickly spreading to the surrounding area. The two spirit beasts seemed to sense the effect.

After the first wind blade descended, a second and third slammed into the water, though no trace of blood emerged.

Two minutes later, his lungs gave way. Feeling the wind blades cease, the young man slowly rose, poised his head above the surface, took a deep breath, and dove back into the water.

The next moment, wind blades followed, but he was now wary and would not remain on the surface for long.

At this moment, he secretly breathed a sigh of relief. Fortunately, he hadn't stayed on the ground. Otherwise, with his level 20 soul power and lack of a second soul ring, facing two thousand-year-old soul beasts alone, a well-coordinated couple, he wouldn't have lasted ten seconds!

But he was feeling incredibly frustrated! He could only hold out for two minutes at most under the lake.

Even if he used his soul power, he could only hold out a little longer. Even a Soul Master would be instantly slain by these two wind sickle beasts. Only a Soul King could withstand them unscathed.

What should he do? What should he do?

Suddenly, a crazy idea struck the young man!

He remembered the Exploding Owlbear, which had attacked him and was now heavily infected with radiation.

If the previous incident happened again, could he escape now?

The next moment, the young man dismissed the idea. The situation was different. The Exploding Owlbear couldn't catch up to him, which gave the radiation time to ferment in his body.

But now, each of these two soul beasts was ten times faster than him. He was afraid that he would be torn to pieces in less than a minute after he spilled his blood! He took a breath and floated back down.

If he relied solely on his current blood to infect the surrounding area, it would likely take several days to show any effect.

The amount of radiation was too low. Furthermore, if he truly remained in the water for two or three days without food or water and without sleep, he would likely die before the spirit beasts could even devour him.

Time passed slowly, the sun gradually setting, and the two wind sickle beasts at the lakeside showed no sign of leaving, as if they had determined to devour him.

The boy's anxiety grew. He knew that once night fell, he would be unable to see anything, and spirit beasts generally had night vision, meaning that if they entered the water, he could be killed without even realizing it.

"It's time to take a risk," the boy thought, reflecting on a plan even more dangerous than the previous one, but potentially more effective.

He felt he needed to carefully consider this idea. After all, one of the two spirit beasts would eventually leave; they wouldn't go without food or water like him.

So, he needed to wait for the moment when one of them would go hunting. This was his chance.

He was going to shore.

This wasn't suicide; it was strategy. He thought, since his own blood was passively infected so quickly, what if it bit off a piece of his flesh?
