Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Peeping at the Water Source (Part 3)

Chapter 17: Peeping at the Water Source (Part 3)

As they continued forward, signs of conflict became increasingly apparent.

Perhaps because of Uchiha Uranium, all the nearby spirit beasts began to scatter, leading to various clashes between them. Some, even century-old spirit beasts, intimidated by his threats, charged into thousand-year-old spirit beasts.

This invisible and intangible protection gave him peace of mind.

After all, if he were to navigate this region of abundant spirit beasts on his own, he would need spirit power of 40 or 50 levels, given the sheer number of spirit beasts and the scarcity of humans.

However, his goal was to find a source of water, not to engage in a life-or-death battle with mindless spirit beasts. What if he encountered something like the Exploding Owlbear again?

"Pah, pah, pah, what are you talking about? I'm definitely not going to see that one."

Feeling he'd said something unkind, Uchiha Uranium looked around suspiciously, fearing his words would have a direct impact on reality, leading to something chasing him and beating him up.

Water sources weren't easy to find. His reason for traveling so far was simply to get beyond the sphere of influence of the forest lake.

According to water source distribution theory, a large water source is bound to have a relatively large number of smaller sources, such as springs and streams. Most of these are branches of the larger source, often branching out from underground.

However, a large source is unlikely to be surrounded by similarly sized sources, unless the area is exceptionally well-developed, with densely distributed groundwater. This wasn't the case in the forest, which was why he'd wandered far away.

Uchiha Uran figured it would take about three days, five days, or seven days to reach the depths of the forest. After all, he was a spirit master, and his speed, driven by the speed of his spirit power, was naturally quite fast.

Furthermore, the outer reaches of the forest weren't the majority of the Star Dou Great Forest, but only a small area.

The true environment of the Star Dou Great Forest lay in the so-called depths, the actual center of the forest.

Once you reach the depths, the distribution, presence, and habitats of spirit beasts begin to become diverse.

The Star Dou Great Forest was vast; if measured in a single area, it would rival the size of the Barak Kingdom. The soul beasts that inhabit it are also diverse.

This is why soul masters seeking soul rings flock to the Star Dou Great Forest. As long as they enter the forest, they're guaranteed to find a soul beast that suits them.

However, this is also a forbidden zone for life, with terrifying high-level soul beasts surging incessantly.

Any unwise action, such as starting a fire or slaughtering a large number of lower-level soul beasts, causing the scent of blood to spread far and wide, would attract the attention of numerous soul beasts. And then, haha, what else could happen?

Towering trees soared skyward. The dense trees resembled giant umbrellas, their roots deep in the earth, their unbridled growth shielding them from the scorching sun.

The temperature in the forest had already dropped lower than before.

At noon, Uchiha Uranium stopped at the foot of a boulder, gently kicked away the surroundings, and then took out a piece of animal skin, spread it on the ground, and sat down.

He pulled out a piece of dark brown meat from his soul guide, then took out filtered but still slightly murky water, and began to sip his lunch.

The meat was smoked to this state. He had already prepared for the journey and had made a large quantity of dried meat in advance. Although it tasted unpleasant and had a very light salty flavor, it was enough to fill his stomach.

He had already used up most of his salt. In less than six months, the seasonings he had brought from his tribe would be gone.

So, to prolong the wait, he used very little salt on the smoked meat. As long as it was edible, it was enough. Even though it was dry, he could swallow it with some water to ease his stomach, and it would be fine.

After eating, he continued his silent journey as before.

A close look at the path he was walking would reveal that both the ground and the trees were covered in a light gray.

The forest was silent at night, with the occasional distant roar of an unknown spirit beast or the penetrating song of a bird.

But there was nothing around him.

Through the leaves, he could see a bright moon hanging in the night sky.

A hammock had been set up.

Beneath it, a bonfire burned.

Unaffected by the wind, the bonfire glowed orange, occasionally crackling and sending out sparks.

There was no danger nearby, and no soul beasts were lingering. Unless they wanted to die, nuclear radiation was far more effective for soul beasts than for plants, not to mention that the radiation concentration increased with increasing soul power levels.

The lake in the forest was a prime example.

Dinner had just ended, and he was well fed. By the light of the campfire, he sketched his journey on the ground, as if taking notes. Obviously, a charcoal pencil could only record a small amount, so he pondered what to write.

He used a charcoal pencil made by burning the end of a piece of wood black, then whittling it finely.

A moment later, a flame suddenly leaped from the campfire and landed before his eyes, startling the young man. After seeing what it was, he smiled with relief.

The forest was rich in resources, whether sour or sweet fruits or the remains of countless bizarre spirit beasts, there was always something new to experience.

This journey was far from the dull life of a forest lake; there was a wealth of interesting things here.

Of course, for another Soul Master or a War Soul Master of their caliber, coming here would be much more than just fun.

The night deepened.

The forest seemed even deeper and more terrifying.

Predators often roamed at night, making the forest far more dangerous at night than during the day.

Even Uchiha Uran, nestled in the safety center, could hear the distant screams of attacked spirit beasts in the forest.

"Huh, it's so late. Go to sleep."

Wiping the sweat from his forehead from being near the campfire, Uchiha Uran put away his completed journal and placed it in his spirit guide. Then, with a few leaps, he reached the hammock, pulled out a shiny fur blanket, and slept right in. He would wake up at his leisure the next day.

Day 5.

After two hours of walking, Uchiha Uran sniffed the air and suddenly felt a dampness in his nose, unlike usual.

"It feels like water in the air?"

He closed his eyes, slightly opened his mouth, and took another deep breath. The mingled, moist air of water lifted his spirits.

"I can't be wrong. There's a source of water nearby."

Uchiha Uran moved his legs, following the sound of flowing water and the dampness of the air, moving forward bit by bit. A moment later.

"There is indeed water here!" The young man followed the damp smell in the air and found a somewhat wide pool of water, no, a lake would be a more appropriate description.

The sound of flowing water he heard was from one of the streams flowing downwards.

Seeing the water source, he was already a little impatient. He had drunk enough of that strange-smelling water, and he hadn't washed his body for a long time. His whole body suddenly became sticky after seeing the water source.

"Huh?"

Suddenly, the young man raised his head abruptly and stopped drinking water. The radiant eyes in his pupils began to rotate unconsciously, and the yellow soul rings moved up and down his body.

He had entered a state of combat readiness. He only needed a little disturbance to bounce up and leave the spot.

Around the water source, he felt a strong sense of malice!
