Chapter 19 - Dream

In the Recidious Star System, above the jungle world of Kadaku, within the vast fleet of the Imperium of Man, Marcus found himself aboard the Severian, the massive Ultramarines Second Company battle barge.

After several labyrinthine movements and numerous twists and turns, Marcus was led by several fully armed Astartes to a heavy iron door. An Astartes opened the door, revealing a dim, cramped, small room behind it. For the next period, Marcus would be staying in this room.

Before entering the room, the honor guard member took out a pair of special handcuffs, cuffed Marcus's hands, and confiscated all of Marcus's weapons and equipment. Only then was Marcus allowed into the room.

As Marcus stepped into the room, the door behind him was immediately closed and locked by an Astartes.

"A Priest and a Tech-Priest will come to inspect you shortly."

After dropping this sentence, the honor guard member left the corridor without looking back, leaving only an Astartes guarding the door.

After letting out a long breath, Marcus looked down at the handcuffs on his hands. For some reason, a feeling of disgust inexplicably arose towards them. This unprovoked disgust made Marcus realize that these handcuffs were likely psychic-suppressing equipment made from the remains of an untouchable.

Closing his eyes, Marcus tried to use his mind power skill. Under the effect of mind power, a lock of hair on Marcus's head suddenly swayed slightly twice, despite being in a windless room. The Astartes outside the door did not notice this subtle change.

It seemed his mind power skill was not affected by psychic suppression. Marcus thought to himself. Although his weapons and equipment had been confiscated, the existence of his second-strengthened physique and mind power skill meant his combat power had not decreased much.

Not only that, Marcus also felt the Star Spirit Mark on his chest; the connection from it still allowed Marcus to release psychic feedback through the mark. After all, neither mind power nor psychic feedback belonged to the Warhammer universe's power system, so they naturally would not be affected by the remains of an untouchable.

The essence of psychics in the Warhammer universe is actually a special group of people capable of communicating with the Warp, and psychic power is the act of distorting reality's laws by borrowing the power of the Warp. Untouchables, on the other hand, can form a "psychic dead zone" around themselves, thereby cutting off the connection between psychics and the Warp, suppressing the psychics' spells.

Even higher-level untouchables can weaken the power of Warp Daemons and even accelerate the dissipation of Daemons from the physical universe. For example, Jurgen, the famous Commissar Ciaphas Cain's aide, is an untouchable. He even used a meltagun combined with his untouchable characteristics to forcefully expel a Greater Daemon of Slaanesh.

After confirming that the psychic suppressor made from the remains of an untouchable was ineffective against him and that most of his power was still usable, Marcus temporarily relaxed.

Then, he began to survey the small, cramped room. Although the Severian, as a battle barge, was nearly ten kilometers long, most of the space on the ship was occupied by various massive war machines and logistical supplies.

In addition, every warship of the Imperium of Man typically required tens of thousands of crew members to operate. Therefore, all mortal servants on board would have several family members crammed into a few square meters of room, with little chance to even lie down.

Only higher-ranking personnel, such as Astartes or Tech-Priests, could have a room of their own. But even so, these rooms rarely exceeded ten square meters in size. They could usually only fit a bed and a few personal items.

As for servitors? The Imperium of Man doesn't consider them people at all; they are treated as tools and are concentrated in a warehouse. When they break down, their mechanical parts are recycled, then made into corpse starch to feed the people on the ship.

The room Marcus was currently in was about eight or nine square meters, with a low single iron bed against the wall, and nothing else. The faint light in the room came from a dim light bulb embedded in the steel wall and light from the corridor outside.

Since there was nothing to do now, he could only wait for Archagellan to send someone to inspect him. Marcus simply lay on the bed, closed his eyes, and began to enjoy this rare period of rest.

Speaking of which, only about six hours had passed since Marcus arrived in the Warhammer Universe. In such a short time, Marcus had already experienced several life-or-death battles. Even a slight misstep would lead to him becoming biomass, devoured by the Tyranids. After so many high-intensity battles, even Marcus, whose physical fitness already exceeded that of ordinary people, was feeling mentally and physically exhausted at this point.

Unbeknownst to him, Marcus had fallen into a dream.

...

Darkness, malicious gazes lurking in the darkness, and the warm sun above his head.

In his dream, Marcus immediately woke up upon seeing everything around him. Then, mind power swept through everything around him like a whirlwind. But it did not touch any physical objects, as if the malicious gazes in the darkness were merely illusory.

Unlike his dazed state when he first transmigrated, Marcus, having undergone two physical enhancements and mastered the mind power skill, was now incredibly clear-headed. At this moment, Marcus frowned, looking at everything around him that was both strange and somewhat familiar.

He had just been in his room on the Severian, so how did he suddenly end up in this ghostly place? Marcus thought to himself.

Looking up at the warm sun in the dark sky, Marcus's enhanced eyes clearly saw that at the center of that sun, there was indeed a magnificent but shriveled figure sitting on a throne.

"Damn it, I wasn't really given a prophetic dream by that yellow-skinned guy, was I?"

Looking at the sun above his head, Marcus cursed inwardly. The sun, the Golden Throne, and the mummified corpse on the Golden Throne. Good heavens, all the elements are here!

However, immediately, as if he had thought of something, Marcus immediately stopped his wild thoughts. As the most powerful psychic in human history, the Emperor likely possessed abilities like mind-reading. Therefore, Marcus was now desperately trying to restrain himself from thinking about his transmigration and the system panel.

Just like that, Marcus stood still for half a minute, then a faint voice entered his ears. Marcus's superhuman hearing immediately identified the source of the sound.

It was the sun in the sky!
