"alrighty class today we're going to try out some potion mixing. Please follow my instructions clearly"
I listened to her list of the items in front of me but they all sounded so otherworldly. I tried reading the label's but they were in a language I didn't understand. Panic started to set in as I realised I had no idea what I was doing.
Sweat trickled down my forehead. What should I do? Should I put my hand up and ask for help? No! If I do that everyone will stare at me. They might even start to laugh. My heart beated rapidly at the thought.
"Alright I'll just take an educated guess" I picked up a bottle of green liquid and was about to pour it in when.
"Stop" indigo grabbed my hand with a stern expression "what on earth are you doing!? You can't pour frog breath into an empty pot. It will spunk up the whole brew!"
"Sorry. I was just taking an educated guess" I bumped my fingers together with a embarrassed blush.
"Educated guess? You did listen to miss Morgan's explaination didn't you?" She put her hands on her hips with a stern expression.
"I didn't understand any of it" tears of shame started to brim.
"Is that so" her face softened up before standing next to me "alright watch me closely"
Indigo picked up each item slowly, explaining their names and their uses in great detail. I was amazed. You could feel just how passionate she was about her work.
"And that's it. Did you get it all?" She turned to me expectingly.
"Yep. You're a great teacher" I nodded.
She beamed at my words "still I'm a little confused. Why didn't you just ask miss Morgan to explain it to you. That's what teachers are supposed to do"
"Oh that. I was scared everyone would laugh at me for not knowing what I was doing" I fumbled with my hands as I explained myself. I wasn't used to putting my insecurities into words but it somehow felt like she'd understand. She had that kind of gentle grace to her.
She gave me an odd look. I started to feel nervous before she spoke "I'm surprised. You really are just a normal kid"
My nerves washed away at her words as I let out a sigh of relief "you've surprised me too indigo. When it came to potions you completely forgot how scared you were of me"
"I'm sorry about that. I've been wanting to apologise since shane told me you saved his life" she pulled her witches hat down in an attempt to hide her blushing face "still you're right about one thing. I love all things magic. I want to be an incredible witch, just like my hero"
"Your hero?"
"Madam de spell" she leaned forward with an excited twinkle in her eyes "she commands the magic sector of the holy knights. I've seen first hand what her illusion magic can do. Protecting the innocent while doing what I love. That's the dream" a dreamy smile graced her lips.
I watched her with a sad expression. Her ideals are so noble. She truly is a good person. No wonder Selene was so affected by her death.
Without thinking I took her hand and said "I'll make sure your dreams come true"
"My nova, a bit forward aren't we?" Indigo giggled into her hand. Realising the implications I let go and stammered
"No that's not what I meant I-" I shut my mouth once shane gave me a death glare. I feel like anything I say now would just make it worse!
"Well I best get back to my station" she turned to walk away when-
"One last thing" she stopped at my words "do you have any tips for potion mixing? I'd like to practice at home"
She looked around before leaning in and whispering "this is a secret between you and me nova but the place to get the best and freshest ingredients is in the mushroom patch. I'm going there tomorrow. I'll show you exactly what to pick"
........
"Sirius's sister has been training me all week. She's an awesome teacher. I think I'm really getting the hang of this leadership thing"
Krispin chatted excitedly to us as we sat around the lunch table while I tracked what day exactly indigo meets her tragic fate.
"So you and Sirius are friends now?" I muttered, my eyes still locked on my calendar.
"Oh we're best buddies now" he smiled confidently as he spotted Sirius walking with a lunch tray "hey Sirius. Come sit with us"
"No thanks. I need a break from you" he walked away and sat by himself.
"We have a unique friendship you see. Sirius pretends not to like me but secretly he does" he explained with a carefree smile.
"Speaking of likes you were getting awfully chummy with indigo" shane glared at me.
"Is that a bad thing?" krispin tilted his head in confusion.
"Look krispin me and nova are tight but indigo has been my friend since we were babies and I don't want him to break her heart"
"Ew dude you make it sound like they want to date. What kind of kid what's a girlfriend!"
"It's not that strange"
"It totally is!"
"It's tomorrow" I stood up suddenly. Tomorrow is when she'll die. I have less time then I thought "krispin could you ask miss Ingrid to be at the mushroom patch tomorrow. I have a feeling something might happen"
"Sure dude" he looked a little confused by the request.
"Nova what are you on about? Did indigo tell you something-"
"Don't worry about it" I ruffled his hair with a smile "me and indigo are doing some potion practice and I'd like some extra security since she's so precious to you. I'm not going to steal your girlfriend" with that I took off.
"She's not my bloody girlfriend!" I laughed as he yelled after me, a picture of his beat red face was stuck in my head. Alright enough messing around. I need a game plan.
