Chapter 14 - chapter fourteen- Indigos final days

Selene watched as nova gathered up supplies. It's official. He's planning something.

"He's always up to something. He's like a busy bee" Selene giggled to herself. She found him quite endearing though he acted so differently now.

It was as if he'd become a entirely different person.

She shook that ridiculous though out of her head. Nonsense. Something that unbelievable couldn't have happened twice.

"Besides it's more fun to imagine I'm special" she smiled to herself as she walked away. Truth is she's been in this strange world for three years now, long enough so that these people no longer felt like characters in a story. They were as real as she was.

Indigo was a great example of this.

She still remembers when she first arrived as Selene, her head was reeling and several girls were standing around her, mocking her mercilessly.

"Elf girl!"

"Pointy eard freak!"

"No boy will ever wanna marry you!"

She was confused to the point of tears when suddenly a spark hit the ground, lighting the flower patch on fire. The other girls squealed as they ran away.

"They couldn't even tell the difference between real fire and an illusion. What amitures" she looked up in disbelief.

"Indigo?"

She smiled brightly "that's my name but I don't think I got yours"

Slowly she stood up and squeezed her cheeks "yeah you're definitely real" she muttered to herself. As crazy as it was she was able to adapt to both her death and reincarnation quickly.

She'd spent so long waiting to die.

"Um can you please let me go" indigo whined.

"Sorry" she let her go with an embarrassed smile "I'm su- Selene. I'm an elf if you're wondering"

She expected her eyes to stick to her unusually pointed ears but instead she grabbed a strand of her pink hair "I've never seen hair this colour before. It's so pretty!"

"Thank you though the other girls would beg to differ" she ran her hand through her hair with a bashful smile "they always say no boy would want to marry me"

Without warning she took Selene by the shoulders and made her sit down. She started to tie her hair in a thick plait "see" she held a pocket mirror up. Her hair was tied back neatly with white flowers intertwined "you'll make such a pretty bride Selene and don't let anyone tell you otherwise"

"You're really good at this indigo" she admired Indigos handiwork.

"My mom taught me how" she pocketed her mirror before turning to Selene determinedly "okay I've made up my mind. I'm going to be your wing woman"

"My wing woman?" She tilted her head in confusion.

She nodded with an excited twinkle in her eyes "I'm an expert in all kinds of love and it really ticks me off that they said you would never be married. So I'll be sure to find you the perfect husband, wife whatever tickles your fancy okay?"

"Thank you indigo" Selene smiled at her words. Even in her past life she never had any girl friends so seeing indigo acting so familiar stuck a cord in her.

But she couldn't help but remember how she knew the character indigo de spell.

The only friend Selene had lay dead in a mushroom patch. Her tiny hand was clutching a basket filled with mushrooms and her witches hat that was always attached to her head had been tossed carelessly to the side. Her body was bruised, battered and filled with stab marks. The poor girl was tortured to death just for the fun of it.

She remembered that scene vividly. Selene cradling the lifeless girl in her arms, her head thrown back and screaming into the empty sky. It was a groundbreaking moment that changed Selene's whole world view. After years of only looking out for herself she decided to carry on Indigos will. She promise to never allow the innocent to die, to never lose someone close to her. She vowed to become a holy knight and make sure that no one's life will ever be cut short again.

"It's an important moment for Selene but I personally don't feel like living through it" she looked out into the distance with a determined expression "this is my story and I don't need an innocent girl to die to steel my resolve"

With confident steps she walked away. "Please wait for me indi" she whispered to herself "I promise I'll save you. I'll make sure you live a long life. You still have to watch me get married after all"
