Chapter 38

Sovereign of Death

"I want to know who you are… Tell me the truth."

Princess Sun Mi spoke in a calm yet firm voice, her eyes fixed on Einver, as though trying to pierce into the very depths of his soul. Any trace of life had vanished from Einver's face, and the green eyes that once shone with brilliance were now empty, devoid of any feeling, as if his spirit had abandoned his body.

Einver answered in obedience, his voice stripped of tremor, stripped of emotion:

"Yes, my lady… My name is Einver, I am eighteen years old, and I wish to travel across the world."

The princess pressed on sternly:

"Tell me, who killed Mo Ba?"

Einver replied without the slightest hesitation:

"I killed him, my lady."

Both the princess and Sin Ka flinched in shock. Mo Ba was no ordinary man to be slain so easily.

The princess exclaimed in disbelief:

"How could you have killed him when he was stronger than you? Tell me the truth—how did you kill him?"

Einver spoke without pause, his voice calm, yet carrying immense weight. His eyes did not waver from the princess as he declared:

"I directed my energy into a small coin that was in my pocket, and then, at incredible speed, I hurled it at him with all my strength. Because of the overwhelming speed, Mo Ba could not avoid it… and I killed him."

Sin Ka exhaled slowly, his mind analyzing:

"Though Mo Ba was a martial artist of the Earthly Realm, Upper Division, he focused solely on his strength and concealment techniques as a spy. He gave no thought to his speed. That explains it… Unlike his brother, who emphasizes speed alongside stealth and assassination, and can evade any strike from above."

He paused briefly, then continued in a calm tone:

"Now then… what will you do about Mi Na and her daughter?"

Princess Sun Mi answered without hesitation:

"Well, of course, I will kill them."

The old man laughed heartily:

"That is my daughter… well said!"

The princess smiled, sat back down upon her chair, and proclaimed loudly:

"Let the martial arts tournament begin!"

The cries of the crowd erupted, cheers and applause filling the air as excitement swept through the coliseum.

Eight contestants stepped forward into the arena, all of them children of nobility. Among them were faces Einver recognized: Mi No, Mi Ni, Nan Wu, and the girl Nan Wei.

Before entering the arena, each contestant displayed their level of cultivation. The differences were clear: the four jesters—Mi No, Mi Ni, Nan Wu, and Nan Wei—were of the Heavenly Realm, First Division, while the other four were only of the Earthly Realm, Upper Division.

The tournament was individual, allowing a contestant to surrender at any time, though killing was forbidden. The battles began, and the crowd watched with fierce enthusiasm—everyone except Princess Sun Mi, who gazed at Einver with disinterest, for to her, he was nothing more than a means of amusement.

She asked in surprise:

"How can you be strong when you are only of the Earthly Realm, First Division?"

Einver responded with quiet confidence:

"My lady, I am strong because I mastered all human martial arts before I ever opened my spiritual sea. I surpassed the limits of the human body before I even became a martial artist."

The princess fell silent, then sought another question:

"Tell me about your parents."

Einver answered softly, yet clearly:

"My father was killed in one of the ancient wars, and my mother took her own life."

The princess frowned:

"Didn't you once say you trained with your father in the mountains?"

Einver replied steadily:

"No, my lady. My father was killed long ago."

She asked with curiosity:

"Why did your mother kill herself?"

Einver answered calmly:

"My mother ended her life so that she would not face a fate worse than death—being defiled by men who were beasts in human form."

The princess sighed heavily, her smile fading for a moment, then asked firmly:

"What did you do to those men who tried to defile your mother?"

Einver's voice was steady as he replied:

"My lady, I tortured them for two full months… and then I killed them."

The princess spoke with admiration:

"Well done… they truly deserved it."

An hour of silence passed in the chamber of honored guests before the winners of the tournament were announced: the four jesters. It was clear that the other four had been weaker, but that was not the true reason. In this world, anyone who planned carefully could overcome the strong. This tournament had been rigged in advance—the others had not used their full strength, so that the jesters would appear formidable and awe-inspiring.

Princess Sun Mi looked at the arena and sighed in boredom:

"This tournament is dull… those four are weak. Even though they are of the Heavenly Realm, First Division, they have hardly trained."

Suddenly, a smile curved her lips as she asked:

"If I told you to face those four, would you be able to defeat them?"

Einver replied with absolute confidence:

"Yes."

The princess was taken aback by his quick response. He had not hesitated or even thought for a moment—it was as though she had asked him something trivial.

She asked in astonishment:

"How, when they are stronger than you?"

Einver answered calmly:

"Strength is not everything in battle. There is also intelligence, strategy, and information. I know everything about them because of their previous fights. Therefore, killing them would be simple: I would sever the head of one, strike down another, force the third to kill the fourth in desperation, then finish the last and leave him alive."

Both the princess and Sin Ka stared at him in shock. Sin Ka, however, smiled and said:

"This boy truly pleases me. He is no mindless beast, but a fighter who plans and thinks."

He continued:

"Those four jesters are weak. Any martial artist who has trained diligently in the Earthly Realm, Upper Division, could kill them. They have never killed before, and I do not wish to see the battles of children. I want to see the battles of hardened men."

Sin Ka laughed, then said:

"My dear, everything in this world is orchestrated. If you see a strong failure triumph over a diligent weakling, know that he won through deceit. Being born noble means you are not bound to toil. Look at this wretched servant—despite his strength and effort, he ended as nothing but our slave. Do you know why?"

The princess answered:

"Because you are stronger than him and used your trait upon him to control his mind."

Sin Ka sighed:

"That is part of the answer. But the true answer is this: no matter how much one trains, they will always bow before the royal family and nobility. Birth as a noble is destiny. Even if this boy were to gain my great power, he would still end up serving us. If not for the death of his mother before his eyes, he would never have killed four men or tortured them in cold blood. He is merely a gentle, poor soul without status in this world. And this world… is ruled by us, the nobility."

Then, with seriousness, he asked:

"Tell me, boy, how many have you killed before? How many lives have you taken? Is it not only four? And do you not regret it?"

The princess turned her face toward Einver.

"Answer my uncle's question."

Einver replied without fear or hesitation:

"Yes, my lady. I have killed one thousand people in cold blood. I killed children, women, and men, young and old, without hesitation. I have never regretted it, and I never will. They deserved it, for they were not humans, but beasts. I slaughtered them one after another. I destroyed an entire city with my own hands, and I will never feel remorse. And I will kill even more if anyone dares touch those I care about."

It was the first time in a long while that Einver revealed his true emotions without restraint. He felt a strange sense of relief afterward.

But two people were left utterly shaken—so shaken that fear seized their hearts. For they no longer saw an eighteen-year-old youth, but a demon who killed without discrimination, without mercy.

Sin Ka and Sun Mi broke into a cold sweat, their clothes clinging to their bodies from sheer terror.

Sin Ka thought to himself in alarm:

"Where did this insane devil come from? He slaughtered a thousand people in vengeance for his mother… He is a mad killer in every sense."

The princess stared at Einver in disbelief, her mouth dry from shock.

"We truly must thank Uncle for seizing control of his mind… Otherwise, he might have killed us just as he did to Mai Na and Mai Ko. He killed a thousand people merely because some scorned his mother… This person is utterly insane."

She wanted to confirm his words, but before she could speak, the door to the chamber of honored guests opened. One of her personal soldiers entered, holding a chain of iron in his hand and wearing an arrogant smile.

"My lady, I have brought the traitors."

Before the princess could respond, the soldier pulled the chain, and behind him appeared two figures, blindfolded and beaten: Mai Na and his daughter Mai Ko. They had been brutally tortured. Mai Na's right arm and eye were wounded, while his daughter was covered in bruises, clutching her father's leg as she wept bitterly.

Mai Na lifted his head and, upon seeing Einver, tears welled in his eyes. He fell to his knees before him.

"I am sorry, my lord, truly sorry. Despite your trust and kindness toward us, I told them you were the one who killed Mo Ba. I revealed everything about you. Forgive me, I beg you."

Mai Ko saw her father bowing to Einver, and she rushed forward, clinging desperately to his legs as she sobbed:

"Please… save us, brother! Please save my father!"

Then she fainted in his arms, still clutching his leg, unaware that Einver's mind had already been enslaved, bound as a servant to Sin Ka and Princess Sun Mi.

Both Sin Ka and Sun Mi looked at Einver, who stood frozen like a lifeless doll, unmoved and unfeeling. They sighed in relief.

For even if Einver lost his senses, he could still kill them with ease, for neither of them had ever trained in martial arts. They relied only on their traits, which were useful only in distant combat, not in close battle.

But what they failed to notice… was that a monster within Einver's mind was already struggling to break free from the chains that bound him. A deranged, demonic beast that had once emerged before—when he slaughtered a thousand people in cold blood—yet had been sealed within Einver by his mother and his brother, Vuid.

The name of that monster was: the Sovereign of Death.
