Chapter 39 - Uncle Ben's Crisis

Hearing Little White's reminder, Meng Ran immediately stopped.

Gwen, noticing Meng Ran's sudden change in expression, asked with concern, "Meng, what's wrong? What happened?"

Meng Ran said seriously, "Something's happened with Peter. He seems to have argued with Uncle Ben. Uncle Ben is driving around looking for him, and I have a very bad feeling."

Gwen became serious as well. She trusted Meng Ran; if he was this serious, the situation must be dire.

Meng Ran and Gwen immediately set off, heading toward where Uncle Ben was.

Meng Ran used his Teleportation ability. After getting accustomed to it, he brought Gwen along, teleporting to make their journey faster. With his strong stamina, the drain from Teleportation was completely manageable for him.

Peter was aimlessly wandering the streets. He'd just had an argument with Uncle Ben, and his mood was absolutely terrible.

A lot had changed for him and in his life these past few days.

A few days ago, Peter went to a science museum exhibition and was suddenly bitten by a spider that fell from the sky. He didn't think much of it at first, because the wound didn't hurt or itch, and he was just going to put some ointment on it when he got back.

That night, Peter suddenly felt uncomfortable all over, his head was very confused, and he quickly fell into an unconscious state.

The next day, he found that many things about him had changed.

Peter's strength had become extraordinarily great, his senses were also very sharp, and he had super-fast reflexes and spider-sense. He could even walk on walls like a spider, but he couldn't shoot webs.

However, after watching videos of Ghost Spider, he decided to make a similar Web-Shooter for himself, which he had now completed.

Besides the changes to his body, his life had also changed.

He joined Dr. Connors' research project, conducting an important experiment, and had made a significant breakthrough.

The argument tonight was also because of this research project.

Peter had promised Uncle Ben that he would pick up Aunt May from work tonight.

However, due to a crucial breakthrough in his experiment, he completely forgot about it, even ignoring Uncle Ben's calls.

When Peter returned home that evening, he saw a stern Uncle Ben at the door.

It was only after Uncle Ben reminded him that Peter remembered he had forgotten to pick up Aunt May.

Facing an angry Uncle Ben, Peter truly realized his mistake and apologized sincerely. His oversight had forced Aunt May to walk through countless blocks and then take the subway home alone.

But when Uncle Ben lectured Peter, the mention of Peter's father made him feel very angry and sad.

When Peter was very young, his father had left him at Uncle Ben's house and never appeared again.

Yet, it was this irresponsible father that Uncle Ben used as an example to teach Peter about responsibility.

After questioning Uncle Ben, a sad and angry Peter stormed out of the house.

As he left, his uncontrolled strength shattered the glass in the door, leaving Uncle Ben and Aunt May stunned in the hallway.

Regaining his senses, Uncle Ben told Aunt May he was going to find Peter and immediately went out.

The neighborhood wasn't quiet at night, and Uncle Ben worried that Peter might be in danger.

After leaving home, Peter wandered aimlessly through the streets.

He felt thirsty and went into a nearby convenience store to buy a bottle of water.

But when he went to pay, the chubby cashier mocked him for his loose change.

Already in a bad mood, Peter became even more depressed and angrily put the water back.

As Peter turned to leave, the blond-haired man behind him took advantage of the cashier's inattention and snatched all the money from the cash register.

Peter didn't stop the man as he left. The man even tossed him a bottle of water before running off.

The plump cashier reacted and immediately chased after him, but the man was already far away.

The cashier looked at Peter angrily and demanded, "Hey! You could have stopped him!"

Peter sneered at the cashier and said indifferently, "What's it to me?"

The cashier could only admit he was unlucky and walked back into the store, defeated.

Peter watched the cashier's misfortune and immediately felt his mood lift.

He opened the water and strolled aimlessly down the street, leisurely drinking it.

When he reached the next intersection, a gunshot suddenly rang out.

Peter heard the shot and looked over, seeing a crowd had gathered in a circle, with people around still chattering.

"What a poor old guy."

"Has anyone called an ambulance?"

Hearing the surrounding discussions, Peter suddenly felt a bad premonition, and he quickly hurried forward.

Peter pushed through the crowd and looked inside.

He saw a middle-aged man weakly lying on the ground, a gunshot wound in his abdomen spilling blood.

The middle-aged man saw Peter squeeze through the crowd and muttered, "Peter..."

This middle-aged man was none other than Uncle Ben.

Peter rushed to Uncle Ben's side, kneeling and pressing his hands against the wound on Uncle Ben's abdomen, hoping to stop the flow of blood.

Peter looked at the weakened Uncle Ben with alarm, his trembling lips muttering, "No! Why did this happen?!"

Then he shouted at the surrounding crowd, "Call an ambulance! Please! Help me!"

Just as Peter was shouting in desperation, Meng Ran and Gwen arrived at the scene.

Hearing Peter's cries, Meng Ran's heart sank.

I didn't make it in time.

Meng Ran immediately jumped from the rooftop, landing in the middle of the crowd.

He hurried over to Uncle Ben and checked his injuries.

The crowd around them, seeing the Ghost arrive, immediately took out their phones and started filming.

Meng Ran ignored the people around him and placed his hand on Uncle Ben's wound.

Several strands of tiny black tentacles then dropped from his hand and burrowed into Uncle Ben's wound.

He prepared to first remove the bullet from Uncle Ben's wound.

The tiny black tentacles wriggled, and then with a crisp ding, a metal bullet fell to the ground.

After removing the bullet, Meng Ran took out a spray and sprayed it on Uncle Ben's wound.

The bloody wound immediately stopped bleeding.

This was something Meng Ran had exchanged from the System Shop, and it had a top-notch hemostatic effect.

Peter, standing to the side, didn't dare to make a sound as he watched the Ghost's actions, fearing he would disturb it.

Peter knew the Ghost was performing first aid on Uncle Ben. He could only watch anxiously, praying that Uncle Ben would be alright.

Meng Ran breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the bleeding finally stop.

He said to the frightened Peter in a low voice, "The bleeding has stopped, but he's still lost a lot of blood. Get him to the hospital as soon as possible."

Peter found the Ghost's hoarse voice like the sound of heaven.

"Great, Uncle Ben is going to be okay."

Peter quickly thanked the Ghost, "Thank you so much, Mr. Ghost."

Then his voice choked up again: "If Uncle Ben has an accident, I really don't know what to do... I can't lose him, w-waah."

Meng Ran looked at the crying Peter and said in a low voice, "Don't mention it."

Then he pushed off with his feet and vanished into the night, as if taking flight.

The ambulance finally arrived. Peter, no longer able to cry, quickly helped to lift Uncle Ben into the ambulance and rushed to the hospital.

Meng Ran returned to Gwen's side. Gwen hadn't gone down.

On the one hand, Gwen couldn't help in this situation.

On the other hand, if Ghost Spider and the Ghost appeared together, there would definitely be a lot of trouble.

So Meng Ran had let Gwen stay there while he went down to give Uncle Ben first aid.

Meng Ran exhaled, and said, "My premonition was right. Something bad really did happen."

"But it's a good thing we got here in time. If something had happened to Uncle Ben, I would have regretted it for the rest of my life."

Gwen gently embraced Meng Ran, and comforted him softly, "It's okay. Uncle Ben is out of danger now. He just lost a bit of blood. He'll be fine after a blood transfusion and some rest at the hospital. We made it."

Meng Ran held Gwen's soft body, and smelling the fragrance of the girl, he gradually relaxed. Too much had happened tonight.

Since nothing happened to Uncle Ben, Meng Ran and Gwen were relieved, and the two continued to wander through the city, continuing their work for the night.

As for the robber who shot Uncle Ben, Meng Ran had already told Little White to search quickly. As soon as that person's trail was found, Meng Ran would know immediately.
