"Hehehe... oh good heavens, I even got an epic grade skill!"

Wang Chen laughed out loud like a madman. The status was too good to be true—not only did he get a decent-sounding class this time, but he even got two class skills as well. Not just any skills, but one rare and the other epic grade.

Wang Chen was no longer an ignorant person, but knew skills inside the tower were divided into regular, rare, epic, legendary, and finally the ultimate grade.

As such, his joy was understandable.

Maybe even the heavens themselves wanted him to break his previous record.

He very clearly remembered last time he had gotten the class of a sweeper with no offensive skill at all. Wang Chen could only hide in one corner in fear and wait for the resentment ghost to pass by.

With that, he didn't dare to waste any more time. He quickly started to get familiar with his newfound strength.

This class looked more leaning toward magical skills. It seemed if he wanted to take the best advantage of it, then he would have to make full use of the mana reserve.

While he was thinking, the ten-minute countdown soon ended, and the protection provided by the tower also ended.

Whoosh!

Immediately the cold wind blowing through the plains sent a chill running down Wang Chen's spine.

Wang Chen was already alert. With his past experience, he was very familiar with the resentment ghosts living on the first floor. Compared to cultivators of the same level, they were incredibly fast and dealt heavy damage. The only saving grace was, the resentment ghosts were isolated creatures preferring to live alone, not forming groups.

Wang Chen was going to take advantage of this.

With that thought in mind, Wang Chen started running while surveying his surroundings. The environment of the first floor was incredibly harsh—the temperature most of the time was below zero, with cold biting wind blowing constantly.

Of all the years that Wang Chen had spent here, he had never seen the sun.

All in all, this was the perfect place for these spirit creatures like resentment ghosts.

In just a matter of minutes, Wang Chen covered kilometers of distance. Still, he wasn't satisfied—if he was able to make use of his cultivation, he might have been able to cover even more distance.

Alas, that was only his wishful thinking, as now he was only controlling his avatar with no cultivation.

Just then Wang Chen's ears twitched. He heard a quiet whimper, slowly turning into a loud and sharp wail in rhythmic fashion, similar to a child crying.

Wang Chen immediately became alert. This was the first floor of the Infinite Tower of Enlightenment—there were no children.

Vigilantly he moved forward while checking his surroundings constantly, as if someone would sneak up on him.

Wang Chen wasn't being overly cautious, but this was something that resentment ghosts liked to do. It was one of their signature moves.

Even though he was alert, yet he still failed to sense the presence of a foggy creature slowly moving closer to him. If you looked at the fog closely, it had facial features similar to humans. Its eyes were slightly puffy, evidently because of the constant crying.

Just then Wang Chen suddenly stopped and turned backward with a jerk.

"Fireball!"

These words had barely left his mouth when a ball of orange flame materialized in front of him, moving toward the foggy creature at fast speed.

Surprised, the resentment ghost tried to move away, but the fireball was too fast and next moment it combusted into flames, crying loudly.

Wang Chen let out a sigh of relief. Thankfully he reacted fast—the resentment ghost had almost managed to sneak up on him.

With that, the dark cloud almost completely vanished, and Wang Chen heard a soft chime in his head:

[Ignite origin of resentment ghost gained, slay more resentment ghosts to level up]

Looking at the notification, Wang Chen's eyes twinkled. "Sweet, one down, nine more to go."

With his past experience, Wang Chen knew he needed to kill at least ten resentment ghosts to level up.

With that, Wang Chen moved like lightning, searching for the familiar sound of any human crying, preferably a child or a woman.

Although the first floor looked like a world of its own, Wang Chen's area of activity was limitless. He roughly knew the floor had roughly the same area as that of a city.

Slowly but steadily, Wang Chen managed to hunt eight more resentment ghosts. Every one was one-shotted by him with a single fireball.

But after his last fight, he felt a slight throbbing sensation in his head. Wang Chen couldn't stop himself from frowning.

Is this the sign of mana exhaustion?

He had been constantly moving and spamming fireball.

While massaging his temple, he decided to find a secure spot to rest.

Just like his stamina, mana would also automatically recover once he had sufficient rest.

Soon, just fifteen minutes passed in the blink of an eye. The faint headache that Wang Chen had felt was almost completely gone—he could resume resentment ghost hunting any time.

From past experience and from what the Infinite Tower had said, there were three ways to clear the tower: first, kill all the resentment ghosts; find the entrance leading to the second floor; and finally, destroy the floor itself.

Wang Chen acted as if the last option didn't exist at all.

He had no intention of going to the next floor, so the only way to get out was killing all the resentment ghosts.

There had to be at least tens of thousands of ghosts.

With that thought, he didn't dare to waste any more time and immediately headed out of his hiding spot.
