Chapter 23 - Clash

Soraya's POV

For a moment, I thought I was imagining her.

But no — Lila was real, standing there in my doorway, her pale hair catching the light from the hallway, her blue eyes like cold fire.

My pulse spiked, my breath catching in my throat. Somewhere deep inside, my wolf stirred, a faint growl echoing in the back of my mind, sensing the threat before I could process it.

We just stared at each other for several long, heavy seconds. The silence stretched, so sharp I could hear the faint crackle of the fire in the distant hearth.

Finally, she spoke. Her lips curled into something between a sneer and a bitter smile. "So, you're the human."

The way she said it — the human — made it sound like an insult. I swallowed hard, my fingers curling around the doorframe. My wolf bristled at the word, a low, restless energy rippling under my skin. "Can I… help you?"
