Kael's POV
I was still on the line with Lucas, the tension in my chest coiling tighter by the second, every breath feeling heavier than the last.
"Sure, Kael," Lucas said from the phone, his voice calm but with an edge of curiosity. "How do you need my help?"
I took a long breath and explained everything as clearly as I could. "A friend of mine is in serious trouble. Ethan took her to his pack yesterday, and nobody has heard from her for a while now. The last time she spoke to anyone, she said Ethan asked her to be his wife."
Lucas was quiet for a beat, then he asked, almost casually, "And how is that a problem, Kael?"
His tone made my grip on the phone tighten. "Because she's a wolf," I said, forcing my voice to stay level even though my pulse was hammering. "And you said it yourself before—he can't mate a wolf. Whatever he's planning with her, it can't be good. I can't just stand by. I need your help to find her and get her out before something bad happens."
