Chapter 31 - Two Plans

Were politicians' minds truly that vicious and terrifying?

David, whose worldview felt like it had just been attacked, was immediately speechless. The others also wore expressions of disbelief.

"Impossible! Valia Town has over ten thousand residents. How could the government just abandon so many of us!"

Seemingly to bolster their own spirits, and perhaps still harboring illusions about the high-ups who were thousands of miles away, David and the others began to encourage themselves.

Li Qingyuan grabbed a handful of popcorn and couldn't be bothered to pay them any mind. These people weren't yet at the point of despair. They still held onto hope, either in themselves or in the government. As an outsider, even with his Interpol identity, not many would listen to him.

After all, only a handful of people had actually witnessed the monsters eating people. The rest had only heard about it.

Hearing about it and seeing it with your own eyes were two completely different things. Thus, it was only natural that these guys were still clinging to unrealistic fantasies.

In the original story, Mrs. Carmody was completely ignored when she first started preaching. However, after the first night's monster attack, she instantly gained over a dozen followers.

After the protagonist's group failed their pharmacy rescue mission the next afternoon, almost everyone else was convinced.

People, if you don't push them to the brink, they'll never realize how useless they are!

"Crunch, crunch!" The popcorn did taste good, especially with an ice-cold Coke. It was truly a relaxing experience.

The only downside was that there wasn't a pretty girl around to serve him.

Mrs. Marjorie was eager to join him, but with Li Qingyuan's upright character, he naturally wouldn't let her get close.

After all, he had two children to look after; she should go take care of them!

"Officer, since you seem so calm, you must have a safe escape plan, right?" While the others were running around like headless chickens, the supermarket manager, Ollie, walked directly over and asked him.

To be honest, Ollie's performance in the whole movie was much more eye-catching than the protagonist's. Compared to the protagonist David, who sometimes acted on emotions, Ollie was calmer and more resolute.

If it weren't for his unlucky activation of the supporting character halo, which led to his death in the final breakout at the hands of the Giant Mantis Monster, the movie probably would have had a different ending.

"There's no safe way to evacuate at all. We don't know how many bio-monsters are gathered in the thick fog now. Walking is simply asking for death, and driving a car will attract those giant monsters!" Li Qingyuan started to spout nonsense, his face unchanged.

If you all run away, what about my mission?

"Then why are you so calm?" Ollie was a bit surprised. Could it be that special agents disregarded life and death? Faced with a life-or-death crisis, he still had the leisure to eat snacks?

"Just ten days. I'll just find a place to hide. Those monsters can't find me, can they? Anyway, with so many targets like you guys around, I will definitely die after all of you." The person shamelessly pointed at the crowd of onlookers in front of him, speaking with a relaxed expression.

Ollie's face immediately looked as ugly as if he had eaten something unappetizing. Seriously, aren't you from Interpol? Shouldn't you be responsible for protecting the safety of ordinary people?

"Why are you looking at me like that? I'm not an American cop. Aren't there three American soldiers over there? Let them protect you!"

Li Qingyuan's words made everyone's faces even grimmer.

Relying on the three soldiers being surrounded to save them? It would be faster to just slit their throats.

"Officer, you are definitely a good person, so please help us, for the sake of the children!" David's eyes darted around, and he immediately came up with a line.

Since the other party had risked danger to save Mrs. Marjorie's two children, he figured the other person's heart was definitely kind. The way he was talking now was just a facade.

Looking at the self-important protagonist, Li Qingyuan felt that he, being such a kind person, should give him a chance.

Honestly, if possible, he wanted to save everyone in the entire town. If he could really save nearly ten thousand people, the attribute points alone would allow him to break through the heavens!

Then, he might be slightly inferior to Captain Marvel, but beating Iron Man would be no problem.

But that wasn't realistic at all!

He was just a level two newbie now. Forget about the final boss in the mist, the Son of the Goat; he couldn't even beat the Giant Mantis Monster!

So, it's best to play it safe and collect the rewards from the supermarket first.

"Actually, the fact that I'm telling you these secrets already shows my position!" He took another sip of his iced cola.

"If everyone in the supermarket would obey my orders, then I estimate some of them could survive until rescue arrives."

"Only some?"

"You have no idea what's going on outside. Besides, do you think those people would listen to me now?" Li Qingyuan pointed at the troublemakers ahead.

Never expect to be able to make others submit to you just by showing off, even if you demonstrate extraordinary strength and put on a big show. So far, only about a dozen people are willing to stay by his side.

By the way, the main reason these people are willing to stay is because of David.

Compared to Li Qingyuan, a suddenly appeared Interpol agent, everyone subconsciously chooses those acquaintances, even if those acquaintances themselves aren't reliable.

After all, most people hadn't seen a monster yet. Without personally facing a life-or-death crisis, almost everyone wouldn't readily change their minds.

Unless he could use brute force to subdue those who wouldn't listen and just kill them all, but who knew what problems that would cause?

So, it was better to let things take their course. Once a monster came to the supermarket and killed a few people, the rest of them would listen to him.

"I don't think it matters who we listen to now; the important thing is that we should reinforce our defenses!" David immediately thought of the key point.

"I think we should find a sturdy building to defend. The supermarket isn't safe at all!" However, Ollie proposed a different idea compared to David's suggestion.

Compared to a large building like the supermarket with its glass structure, a concrete building seemed much safer.

In the original plot, the reason everyone wanted to escape was because they had cut off all external contact and couldn't see any hope.

But now that Li Qingyuan had said the government would send people to handle the situation and provide rescue in ten days, everyone just needed to find a safe place to hide!
