Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Goodbye Maiev Shadowsong

The Priests were surprised that Gale considered these injured individuals as accomplices of the trolls, and they all found it incredible. They looked at Dyganna, who showed no surprise but instead said to the injured: "Elune has witnessed everything; your crimes cannot be hidden!"

Dyganna waved her hand, and moonlight shone on the injured, immediately turning their violet faces crimson.

"Your hands are stained with the blood of your compatriots; you are all sinners!"

The Priests glared, not expecting these injured individuals to be the true culprits who murdered the logistics team.

Seeing their crimes exposed, the injured immediately resisted, attempting to rush out of the Elune Temple.

However, as soon as they made a move, they were knocked to the ground by the Priestess. The Priestess, with divine magic, was not a delicate lady; each was a battle-hardened warrior with far more combat experience than these noble lords.

Gale waved his hand, and Arcane Energy instantly appeared, transforming into shackles to bind these traitors.

He looked at Dyganna, "Respected Priestess, I need to interrogate these traitors to find the military funds."

Dyganna smiled and said, "Interrogation is probably not something Mage Gale is good at. There are those in the Sisterhood who excel at such things; why not hand them over to us?"

Gale was just wondering how to make these people talk. "That would be excellent."

Soon, a Priestess appeared before Gale.

"Maiev?" Gale was astonished; Maiev Shadowsong was skilled at interrogation?

But thinking about the Watchers Maiev established, who seemed to be a group of jailers, being skilled in interrogation seemed reasonable.

Maiev was also a bit surprised, not expecting to meet Gale again.

Since their last meeting, Gale's name always seemed to come up. Sanction Blade, Golden Holy Sword, Wind Power—all three weapons for fighting trolls came from Gale's hand.

Relying on these three weapons, Kaldorei defeated the trolls and defended Suramar. Although the soldiers were the ones on the battlefield, the people of Suramar still thanked Gale, the arms dealer.

If there were a reputation system, Gale's reputation in Suramar would have already reached Revered.

Later, Gale was quiet for a year, but after that year, news came that Gale had created the artifact crown for Queen Azshara.

A Mage being able to create artifacts truly astonished the entire Kaldorei Empire.

"Why aren't you in the laboratory? What brings you here?"

Maiev's expression remained cold, but Gale still heard a hint of teasing in her words.

"Isn't it because someone wanted to harm me! So they got me out of the laboratory and gave me a difficult problem."

Maiev glanced at the traitors. "I will soon learn the truth from their mouths!"

The traitors were led into the interrogation room, and Maiev closed the door. Then screams began to emanate from the interrogation room, as if the traitors were in a high-pitched competition, each shouting louder than the last.

Gale felt a bit unnerved. "Priestess, this is the Elune Temple."

Dyganna smiled and said, "Elune protects Kaldorei, but she also punishes evil. Just as the other side of light is darkness, sometimes despicable means must be used to ensure that sinners receive their due punishment."

"I see!"

Gale's words were somewhat insincere; truthfully, he still felt this approach was a bit barbaric. However, thinking back to the War of the Ancients trilogy, when the Orc warrior Broxigar Saurfang was captured and taken to Suramar, he suffered extremely cruel and inhumane medieval tortures.

Therefore, it was normal for the Elune Sisterhood, as representatives of divine authority, to also use medieval torture.

Moreover, since they were dealing with enemies, Gale's discomfort lessened significantly. The only thing he couldn't get over was that Maiev, a woman, was doing such dirty work. Wouldn't she become psychologically twisted?

Soon, Maiev emerged from the interrogation room.

"They followed someone's orders to poison the entire team while they were resting. Then a group of trolls arrived, killed all those who were poisoned, and stole the cart containing the military funds. They never engaged in combat; the disarray on the battlefield was also their own doing. After faking the battlefield, they discussed their alibi before inflicting wounds on each other."

"Who gave them the orders?" Gale asked.

Maiev shook her head, "They don't know who it was; those people kidnapped their families."

Gale subtly pursed his lips. Anyone capable of kidnapping people in Sin'dorei must have significant influence. After connecting the dots, there could be no one else but Savis.

Thinking about his journey from Sin'dorei, Gale suspected that Turann High Mage was also Savis's man. He had unknowingly fallen into Savis's trap; this old fellow was indeed a master of political maneuvering. No wonder he was deeply favored by Sargeras and N'Zoth, who both invested their efforts in him, one turning him into a Satyr, the other into the Nightmare King.

Dyganna: "I will inform Queen Azshara of this matter."

"Thank you!" Gale held no hope. Since Savis dared to defy public opinion by attacking the logistics team, he must have made thorough preparations. Since the traitors didn't even know who they were taking orders from, Savis wouldn't have to do anything, and no one would suspect him.

After all, Savis was Azshara's most trusted advisor; how could he do anything to harm the Kaldorei Empire?

Indeed, Azshara's reply stated that she would investigate, but because the military funds were lost, it would take some time to raise more. Until the funds were collected, Azshara instructed Gale to ensure the army's logistics to atone for his mistakes.

As the quartermaster, not departing with the logistics team was a serious dereliction of duty.

If Azshara hadn't still needed Gale to manufacture weapons, he probably would have been punished.

Gale had no choice but to first find a way from the Forging Factory, transporting the accumulated weapons and gold coins to Heda'shal. Paying for military expenses with his own money made Gale very unhappy. So, when keeping accounts, Gale appropriately inflated the prices a bit, counting it as interest.

"Priestess, I don't have many people at hand right now. Please assign some people to me to help escort the supplies."

Dyganna smiled and said, "Fighting the trolls is the duty of every Kaldorei. Maiev, lead your people to assist Mage Gale."

"Yes, Priestess!"

"May Elune bless you, Mage Gale!"

With Dyganna's blessing, Gale set off with the newly formed logistics team. Maiev led dozens of Priests and also borrowed a small team from Suramar, whose captain was a warrior from Raven Case.

And Maiev's younger brother, Garrosh Shadowsong, was also in this small team.

Upon arriving at the Forging Factory, Gale allocated one thousand Sanction Swords and fifty thousand judgment arrows. He also bought a large quantity of food and materials on credit from Nasalas, almost emptying Nathalas Academy's entire stock.

Even though Nathalas Academy was nearly brought to a standstill, Prince Farodis still supported his ally, Gale.
