Chapter 14 - Rule 81

Stretching as I wake up the next morning. Getting out of bed, I step on a piece of paper, looking down with confusion.

There's a spiral piece of paper trailing across the room. Each inch of the paper is filled with countless rules. Luck is still writing; at this point, his writing is not even legible.

"Good morning, Luck."

Luck slowly turns to me with crusty eyes. "Rule 81: greet saint with a warm, refreshed smile."

"There's... no need to strain yourself."

"Fear not! I have gotten almost halfway done with the list. I will be sure to tell you each of them once I'm done."

"I see... well, you could always just tell me when I need to follow a specific rule instead of writing them all down."

"Oh... that's a good idea. I'll write them down and then tell you all the rules every morning, just to make sure you know them."

Ignoring that ominous remark, I begin to put on my clothes. I only brought two pairs of clothes, two black compressed shirts, and two baggy red harem pants, each with socks and underwear.

I considered going shopping but decided I'll save that as a date idea... if I manage to get one.

"Well, I'm off to breakfast if you want to join me."

Luck turns. "After I perform rules 34 through 68, I will join you!"

Nodding my head, knowing full well that he will not be joining me.

I enter the lunchroom, it's one of the few parts of the school that is not segregated. It looks like a typical cafeteria. Grabbing a tray I ask for my usual, they call it "bird", but it's just a different species of chicken and some rice. After yesterday's victory, I treat myself to some plain yogurt.

I look around as if I'd actually have someone to sit with. Maybe I could force Kunnia to, under my command. I don't see her, so I find an empty booth.

Moments before finding solace in my solitude, it is interrupted by a bratty whistle, which comes to an abrupt stop once she notices me. "SAINT!!!... Can I join you?!"

Pondering whether I should act like I have no clue who she is, but realize such an attempt would be futile. "The seats not taken."

She places down her tray, which is filled with various pastries and desserts that would make a personal trainer weep.

She interrupts my judgmental stare with an angry, accusing point. "You know, you could be a little more bashful when a beautiful girl asks to sit next to you!"

I attempt to mock an excited schoolgirl while remaining neutral in my stare, pointing my fingers together. "Senpai! You... really want to... sit next to me?"

Roulette looks very proud, and she puffs her chest out. "Much better! Anyway, how's your roommate?"

"He's good."

Roulette sighs. "I swear I could have a more interesting conversation with a stale piece of bread! Give me more than that! Does he snore, talk in his sleep, sleep naked?"

"He spent all of last night writing down a bunch of rules."

Roulette suddenly looks empathetic towards me. "I see one of those types. Well... I got a single, sooo if you ever need somewhere to crash, my bed's always... open." Roulette seductively crawls her fingers up my shirt at she emphases each word.

I tilt my head as I raise my eyebrow. "If it's a single, how would I sleep there?"

Roulette's jaw drops as she contemplates my sanity. "I just told you that you could share a bed with the beautiful me, and that's what you say?!"

"What were you hoping I would say?"

"I was kidding, but not even blushing?! You're a tough shell to crack."
