Then there were two girls in the middle, left of the class; they were weird, to say the least. One of them was analysing, and the other couldn't care less. They were talking, but to Kairo it seemed like one of them was talking at the other. The girl with pale eyes laughed at something on her data pad, and the other girl was fast at work analysing. Then the instructor walked in, he was lanky and bold and thin. He got up to the front of the room, "My name is Senior Operative Vladmir, and I am your instructor. If you want to make the next 12 weeks of your life bearable, you listen to me."
You could hear the silence and the lack of care for the formalities. He didn't check the roster. He spoke simply and with authority, "Stand!" Everyone scrambled to their feet as he scanned the room like a motion detector, only the unserious girl dropped her data pad. Kairo looked at Nova, who was slower to get up. The instructor walked down the desk aisle, analysing the mesh of Rookies. He stopped at everyone, and he spotted an imperfection with each rookie.
When he got to the two girls in the middle, he stopped completely, "Name." He expected an answer quickly, and the analytical girl did, "Minor Operative, Arienne Thornton, Intelligence Division." The other one spoke with uncertainty, "Nyla Noriega…. Combat Support? I… Think?" The instructor was not impressed at all, "You think?" Nyla shrugged, a bit disrespectful, but he allowed her for just today; he would let her off. "I was recruited as a do-it-all gal." She said as the instructor seemed to get it. "I assume you guys came in as a partnered set." Arienne spoke up in response to this statement, "That is correct." Instructor Vladimir walked back to the front of the room.
