Mai had already sprawled out on the bed, so Draconis settled into the single armchair nearby.

Mai sat up, rubbing her ankle. Draconis's gaze lingered—unapologetically—on her legs, sheer stockings hugging every curve.

She caught him. "Why are you staring at me?"

"Just admiring a gorgeous woman and her beautiful legs," he replied, utterly shameless.

Mai gave him a look. "Wow. So you really are that kind of guy."

"Forgive me—it's my first time sharing a hotel room with a beautiful girl," Draconis shrugged.

Mai stretched, letting out a tired little hum as she stood. "Guess I'm at fault for coming with you, then."

"I'm gonna shower," she announced.

"Okay."

"No peeking."

"I'd love to, but the bathroom's got a lock."

Draconis said it like it was nothing, though his mind wandered back to the time she'd summoned him and he'd accidentally glimpsed her in the bathtub. That memory was still painfully vivid.

Too good a memory for his own good.

Mai didn't dignify his honesty with a reply—she just pointed silently at the door. Clearly, she wanted him out.

"If I go outside now, people'll think I'm a burglar," Draconis protested.

"Just tell them you're not a burglar—you're a pervert," Mai shot back, deadpan.

"Ouch. That'd still get me arrested. Keep calling me names, and I might just join you in the shower," he teased.

"Hmph."

She slipped into the bathroom and slammed the lock.

...This girl was way too cute.

Draconis pulled out his phone, searching for any trace of Mai online. As expected, nothing. Not a single mention of Mai Sakurajima. Just a bunch of random celebrities with similar names.

What kind of trash search engine was this? He was a respectable—well, mostly respectable—devil.

He tried a few more searches, but came up empty. Meanwhile, the sound of running water in the bathroom faded.

A click—the lock disengaged. Mai peeked out, towel wrapped around her hair, bare shoulders gleaming with droplets. Her skin glowed pink from the heat.

"You didn't do anything weird, did you?"

Her suspicion was almost endearing.

"What weird things?"

"Weird things are just weird things!" She'd tripped herself up and was blushing.

Draconis rolled his eyes. "You came out dressed like that just to ask me?"

"...No, I—what am I supposed to do about underwear?"

"Hm?"

"I don't care about changing clothes, but socks and underwear are a no-go."

She looked genuinely troubled.

Draconis tilted his head. "Want me to wash them and blow-dry?"

Mai glared. "I'd rather you drop dead."

"Harsh. So you're not wearing anything right now?"

"I've got a towel, thank you very much!"

"Oh, that's a pretty nice mental image too."

"...Stop being a creep."

She whipped the towel off her head and tossed it at his face. It smelled of shampoo—sweet and fresh.

Draconis peeled it off, grinning lazily. "Just wait inside. I'll run to the convenience store and grab what you need. I have to change too."

"You sure that's okay?"

"What's the problem?"

"A high schooler buying girls' underwear?"

"Relax. I'm a pervert, remember?" Draconis replied, breezy as ever.

Mai was speechless for a moment, then sighed. "Fine. I'll go with you."

"I can handle it alone."

"I'm just worried you'll pick something ridiculous."

"I wish, but convenience stores only stock basic stuff."

While he joked, Mai was already locking herself back in the bathroom. The sound of clothes rustling and then a hair dryer filled the room.

Soon she emerged again. Draconis glanced at her, wondering if she'd really gone commando. Probably not—she must've put something on.

They headed downstairs together, straight to the daily goods aisle. The shelves were well-stocked, but before Draconis could even scan the options, Mai had already grabbed a black camisole and matching panties.

"This pink one's cute," Draconis teased.

"I'm not wearing it for you. Any color's fine."

"Heh. Maybe I'll get to see someday."

"That'll never happen, dummy." She stretched the last word out, voice lazy and teasing, then wandered off.

Draconis picked out a pair of black boxers for himself and hurried after her.

"Black's not bad either," he mused.

Mai added two boxed dinners to the basket, and though she'd clearly heard him, she fixed him with a regal glare. "What was that?"

"Nothing."

He took the basket and paid, the cashier not even blinking at the mix of items. No awkwardness, no suspicion. They headed back to the hotel.

Face to face, they ate their convenience store dinner. Draconis showered, dried his hair, and found Mai sitting on the bed looking troubled.

"You're not gonna kick me out again, are you?" he asked.

"The hallway's out. Wouldn't want to cause trouble for the hotel staff."

Her gaze drifted to the single bed.

"Can you swear you won't do anything?" she asked, voice full of warning.

Draconis answered instantly. "I swear."

"Liar!"

He just shrugged. Even if he'd paused to think, she'd have accused him of plotting something. What could he do?

Mai steadied herself. "...As long as you just sleep next to me, it's fine."

"Perfect."

"Don't make me regret it!"

Still cautious, then. Under Draconis's amused gaze, Mai scooted over to the far side of the bed.

He lifted the covers and slipped in, immediately feeling the warmth where Mai had just been lying.

"Touching, really. First time someone's warmed my bed for me."

Mai: "...??"
