Chapter 30 - Chapter 30: The Bard Venti

A new day, new events.

The first thing Yu Jin did after waking up today was to go to the Church of Favonius to report that a nun was hitting people indiscriminately!

The Church of Favonius is affiliated with the Knights of Favonius and holds extremely high prestige in Mondstadt. This is not only because the Church of Favonius is a gathering place for the worship of Barbatos, but also because the Church of Favonius serves as a hospital.

No matter when, the Church of Favonius is always crowded. Of course, the main cathedral, which serves for prayer, is much better.

What Yu Jin saw when he arrived in front of Windrise was a surging crowd.

However, a considerable portion of them were there to play in Windrise. Even so, people seeking treatment from the side entrances on both sides remained a constant stream.

But Yu Jin was not there for treatment, so he entered directly through the main entrance.

Upon entering the cathedral, the gleaming, dust-free floor immediately caught Yu Jin's eye. Yu Jin lifted his foot, and sure enough, a large black footprint appeared on the floor.

This made Yu Jin's morale weaken a bit before he even started. However, no one in the Cathedral of Favonius paid him any attention; the vast cathedral was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Coupled with the huge stone pillars inside the cathedral, the large windows with their colorful light, and the extremely high dome, it gave a sense of solemnity and reverence.

Yu Jin had been to such cathedrals twice before, but their fates were not too good; one was demolished, and one was burned.

"What is there about Barbatos that makes him worthy of your faith? He doesn't even want to show his face... Ah—I'm so sleepy." A voice came from beside Yu Jin, weak and listless.

Yu Jin turned his head and saw a masked man standing weakly on a stone pillar nearby, already dozing off before he finished speaking.

Fatui! Yu Jin immediately ran over and said with an unfriendly tone, "What are you doing?"

Viktor was startled when a 'tin can' appeared before him. However, as if remembering his identity, he stiffened and said,

"What am I doing? Of course, I'm destroying the faith in Barbatos!"

Yu Jin thought about how he was dozing off just now and couldn't help but ask curiously, "This is how you destroy faith in Barbatos?"

"What do you mean 'this way'? It's exhausting to say the same thing to every person, okay?" Viktor argued.

"I don't think it's effective." Yu Jin pondered for a moment, feeling it would be difficult for him to achieve his goal this way.

"I know." Viktor didn't care; slacking off every day, ah, it's very comfortable, okay?

Yu Jin gave him a meaningful look. He had originally thought that all Fatui were sly and cunning, but he didn't expect there would be slacking masters like Viktor.

However, it made sense; when an organization grows large, no matter its initial goal, there will always be a few exceptions.

"Alright, you continue to destroy faith in Barbatos." Yu Jin only chatted briefly with him before parting ways.

Yu Jin walked further into the cathedral. Besides the praying faithful, there were also several nuns sitting on long benches, concentrating on their prayers.

He glanced around and found that none of the nuns seemed to match the figure that attacked him last night.

Seeing everyone in the cathedral so focused, Yu Jin thought for a moment and then walked out. After all, he wasn't injured last night, and the nun hadn't intended to kill him. When he saw her again, he'd just give her a beating.

Stepping out of the Church of Favonius, it suddenly became noisy. Many Mondstadters were playing in Windrise, and the lively atmosphere was no less than that of Mondstadt Square below.

However, unlike Mondstadt Square, there were no numerous shops and stalls here. Instead, there were many bards.

The bards sang poems, some true, some false, their chants echoing each other, weaving a song of the wind.

Yu Jin leaned against a stone pillar, silently gazing at the huge statue of Barbatos before him. It seemed this Barbatos was quite capable.

After admiring it for a while, Yu Jin prepared to leave because he found these poems somewhat repetitive. No wonder bards had a poor reputation in Mondstadt.

What kind of bard only knows one poem!

Yu Jin looked at the 'poets' in the square and began to silently complain.

"Yo ho, strange traveler, what do you think of Mondstadt?" A young man with light blue braids, a green beret, a lotus-leaf-edged cloak, and white tights smiled and greeted Yu Jin.

Although the young man looked androgynous, Yu Jin could tell at a glance that he was actually a boy—because he had met Miquella.

Yu Jin looked at the young man, then at the huge statue of Barbatos in the distance. Oh no, Barbatos has shrunk!

He pointed at Venti, about to call the nuns from the Church of Favonius, but Venti quickly rushed forward, covered his mouth, and whispered,

"Shh—it's a secret, I'm Venti now!"

"Oh, you can let go. Covering the helmet is useless. If I wanted to shout, I would have already." Venti's hand was still covering the mouth area of Yu Jin's helmet, but it had no effect whatsoever.

"Ah? Sorry." Venti heard Yu Jin's voice coming from inside the helmet and realized his action was a bit like burying his head in the sand, so he scratched his head awkwardly.

"It's okay, Mondstadt is pretty good." Yu Jin finally answered Venti's initial question.

Venti was very happy to hear Yu Jin's praise. "Hehe, right? I think so too, especially Mondstadt's wine, it's truly rare in the world!"

"You've made me thirsty, let's go to Angel's Share for a drink!" With that, Venti pulled Yu Jin and ran towards Angel's Share.

"I don't drink!"

"Come on, come on, you'll love it once you try it."

Venti ignored Yu Jin's objections and forcibly dragged him into Angel's Share.

Opening the tavern door, warm-toned light filled the entire establishment. Even before drinking, it gave a slightly tipsy feeling.

As Mondstadt's best tavern, many people came here to taste wine, so the atmosphere was less noisy and more leisurely.

This might also be why Venti liked coming here. He didn't like too much noise when drinking.

"Welcome." Charles, the bartender, looked up at the newcomers, and then surprise appeared in his eyes.

"I didn't expect it to be Mr. Yu Jin, please have a seat."

"Hmm? Do we know each other?" Yu Jin looked at Charles. He didn't seem to have been here before, so he hadn't met Charles either.

"The master instructed me to take special care of you if you came here," Charles explained.

"Master?" Yu Jin began to filter through the rich people he knew in his mind.

"Is it Diluc?" Yu Jin was a bit unsure. He seemed to have mentioned that Angel's Share was his property.

"Indeed. It's rare for Mr. Yu Jin to visit, so the drinks today are on me," Charles said with a smile, watching Yu Jin stare at the menu.

"Uh... thank you." Yu Jin didn't refuse. He had just looked at the menu and found some items a bit expensive.

"Ehe, my dear friend, it's your treat this time!" Venti's eyes lit up, and he immediately jumped up and put his arm around Yu Jin's neck.

Unfortunately, even when Venti jumped, he couldn't reach Yu Jin's neck. In desperation, he could only put his arm around Yu Jin's waist.

"Heh heh, what cheap friendship." Yu Jin didn't refuse Venti either. On the contrary, he became quite interested in this unreliable Barbatos.

The two, like long-lost friends, hugged and sat down at an empty table.

Yu Jin just ordered a casual drink, but Venti opposite him was different. He looked at the menu like an old wolf who had been hungry for a long time, his eyes even beginning to glow green.

What? Venti's eyes were green to begin with, so never mind. Anyway, he was very thirsty.

Soon, Venti ordered a large array of drinks that made Yu Jin dizzy. It truly opened Yu Jin's eyes; he never knew there could be so many drink combinations.

"Ah! How satisfying, it's been a long time since I've had such a good time." Venti picked up a colorful drink, took a sip, and sighed.

"Tell me, why did you go to the Cathedral of Favonius? Do you have some worries you want to confide in Barbatos?"

"Tell me, I definitely have to help with a friend's troubles!" Venti patted his chest. He was very happy today and would allow others to trouble him a bit.

"I was inexplicably beaten by your nun last night!" Yu Jin said with some indignation.

"Hey! What do you mean 'my nun'? Don't say such misleading things!" Venti corrected him.

However, Yu Jin didn't pay attention. He pointed at a woman and shouted, "It's her! The violent nun!"

"What a weird nickname!" Venti grumbled.

Thanks to the mysterious tomb jar mouth and Cangyun Xiaodun for the monthly passes!
