Chapter 20 - Striking Resemblance

Harmonica had gotten ready as early as possible because she wanted to take Zade to his doctor's appointment today.

''Are you happy that mummy is taking you?'' She asked, adding more eggs to Zade's plate and the latter nodded, excitement evidence on his little face.

''Alright! But you have to promise to be on your best behavior today.'' Harmonica continued, ruffling Zade's hair, earning a scowl from him.

She watched him eat happily while she prepared some documents.

She still had the proposal with Sasha shumpert. She planned on heading over to her residence to strategize on how they were going to move forward.

She had tried calling Lucas so they could go there together. But after several failed attempts, she decided to give up and go on her own.

''Let's go.'' Harmonica said, taking Zade's hand in hers as they walked towards her parked car.

Once in, she buckled him tighly to the back seat before heading over to the drivers seat and stepping on the gas to the hospital.

Once they got there, Harmonica unbuckled Zade and took her with him along with Zade's past hospital files in her hand.

With the help of Jessica, she was able to find Zade's assigned doctor and they settled in the room.

''You don't need to bring him everyday ma'am '' The doctor said, chuckling.

''I have to.'' Harmonica replied, giving him no room for talks.

After a while, her phone dinged with a message from Sasha shumpert.

She said she was now standing outside her new building and that she had somewhere she urgently needed to get to so she wanted to have the talk with Harmonica before she did so.

Harmonica clicked her legs against the floor worriedly. She couldn't leave Zade all by himself.

But if she bailed on Sasha, the deal between them was going to be permanently cancelled.

She quickly headed to the doctor, giving him an apologetic smile. ''Can you please look after my son for a few minutes? I'll be just around the corner.'' She said, pleadingly.

The doctor nodded, dismissing her while he checked on Zade's vital.

The result was the same as yesterday and Zade was one of the lucky kids who was strong enough to keep fighting kidney diseases.

''Dr Stanford!'' One of the nurses shouted, running into the room in a panic.

''We are losing vitals from the patient in room 12!'' The nurse continued, a scary expression on her face.

Dr Stanford immediately bolted out of the room, heading for Room 12 in urgency.

He had forgotten that he was asked to keep an eye on a five year old kid.

Zade stared at the room as boredom started to seep in. He had been swinging his legs for the longest and neither his mom nor the doctor were back.

He immediately got down from his bed and headed towards the elevator, hoping to go find his mummy.

That was how he collided with the mean aunty who was staring at him as if he was a ghost.

''What's wrong?'' Lucas asked and Zade stared at him suspiciously.

He looked familiar…..

''Homeless man?'' Zade asked and Rita almost choked on her spit.

Even Lucas stared at the little boy in bewilderment.

''How dare you talk to your elders like that!'' Rita scolded him as she got into the elevator along with Lucas. By then, Zade was already on his feet dusting a few speck of dust that had latched on his pants.

''It's fine.'' Lucas said to Rita chuckling. He was also staring at the boy's facial feutures and he noticed the striking resemblance between them both.

The only difference was that he was more handsome.

He gave his Dad credit for that.

''So where are you headed?'' Lucas asked, staring down at the little boy who looked at him with a raised brow before averting his eyes.

''My mummy said I should not talk to strangers.'' Zade said, folding his hands against each other as he pouted.

Rita: (—)

''So where is this mummy of yours?'' Lucas asked, searching the elevator in mockery. ''Did she really leave a little boy like you alone in an elevator?''

Lucas didn't know why. But he felt some kind of connections with the little boy. He just couldn't stop asking him questions even though the little boy was hell bent on following his mother's rules about not talking to strangers.

He had to commend the little boy's mother for her good parenting.

The elevator door dinged open and Rita got out, raising a questioning brow as she realized that Lucas had no intention of stepping out.

Was he really going to entertain the little boy?! She huffed as she watched the elevator close.

Lucas pressed on the VIP floor again. The boy had to have been coming from there since that was where he met him.

''Don't you think your mummy would be worried if she found out that you snuck out of the room?'' Lucas asked and Zade pondered his words carefully.

What if his mummy was actually looking for him right now?

''I didn't sneak out. I was going to look for my mummy'' Zade finally answered, tears already brimming in his eyes.

''Alright! Don't cry.'' Lucas said, taking the little boy palm and intertwining it with his. He wiped the lone tear that fell from his eyes and seeing the little boy cry stung him hard.

Maybe if he hadn't pushed Harmonica away and driven her into choosing not to carry his child, maybe he would have had a child around this little boy's age.

The elevator dinged open again at the VIP section of the hospital and Zade grasped unto Lucas's hands tightly as he led him to his hospital room.

''Let's wait for your mummy'' Lucas said, hoisting Zade up and placing him on the bed before sitting beside him.

Minutes later, Zade pointed to the door excitedly and Lucas followed his hand gestures, his eyes bulging.

''That is my mummy!''
