Chapter 19 - Bumping Into Zade

Lucas immediately reached for a cloth and wrapped it around Rita's wounded palm, trying to stop the blood.

He picked her up bridal style and placed her in his car, driving to the hospital like a maniac as panic flooded through him.

Meanwhile… Harmonica had already come out of the washroom looking like a totally different person.

''I thought you bailed on me for a moment'' Simon said, raking her from head to toe. ''Or are you Harmonica's twin?'' He continued after analyzing her new appearance.

''Of course not.'' Harmonica laughed. ''I just think I look better with my hair down.'' She lied, sipping the rest of her coke in a hurry.

''I think you look better with your hair down too.'' Simon said, mimicking her as he sipped all his drink in one go too.

Harmonica could tell that he knew she was lying.

Her phone dinged and she checked it. It was a message from Jessica—Her son's nanny telling her that she was on her way to the hospital for Zade's regular checkups.

Harmonica replied with a brief 'okay' before dropping her phone. ''I guess I'll be off now.'' She said to Simon who just nodded his head in understanding.

''Well don't forget this again.'' He said, handing her his business card and Harmonica smiled, taking it while also handing him hers.

They bid themselves goodbye and went their separate ways.

Meanwhile…Lucas was pacing the front of the Operating room anxiously.

They had told him to stay back while they performed surgery on Rita's hand due to how deep the glass had been pierced in.

He sat at a nearby bench, guilt clouding him as he waited for the procedure to be over.

Minutes later, he watched doctors come out, driving the gurney that Rita layed on to a VIP room in the hospital.

He followed behind them anxiously until they were done setting Rita up.

''Is she okay?'' Lucas asked

''She is perfectly fine. We just stitched her up and made sure her vitals was okay. However, the anesthesia is still running through her so she should be up by tomorrow.'' The doctor said, taking his leave.

As he did, Simon barged in, sweating like he had just ran a marathon.

''Are you okay? I heard you where in the hospital'' He said, eyeing Lucas from head to toe. And when he saw no sign of injury on him, he sighed in relief.

''I'm fine'' Lucas answered tiredly, sitting at a chair that faced Rita's bed.

That was when Simon noticed Rita. His eyes raked over her, then back to Lucas in confusion.

''Your fiancé??'' He asked, staring at him weirdly.

Lucas had never had anything good to say about his fiancé. He always dismissed talks about her or act like her actions didn't bother him.

Now, he looked like a husband who was about to lose his wife.

''I didn't know you cared that much for—'' He paused as Lucas piercing gaze fell on him.

Raising his hands in defeat, Simon took some steps back, not wanting to disturb the couple.

Meanwhile, Harmonica had succeeded in making her son happy.

She had made sure to book the whole amusement park so that she and Zade could spend quality time with eachother without any interruption.

Bouncers were placed at every entrance and exit of the amusement park and Jessica—Zade's nanny stood to the side as she watched the mother and son duo laughing wholeheartedly.

It was a rare sight to see and Jessica was always happy whenever zade was happy.

''I think we should leave now.'' Harmonica breathed out, her chest heaving as she stared at her watch.

She had been playing with Zade for almost 3 hours. The little man hadn't even broken a sweat or even complained of being tired.

''But why? You promised to spend a 'lottttt' of time with me.'' Zade grumbled, recalling the words his mother had said to him.

''And I will. But it's getting really dark outside. And mummy is really starting to get cold'' Harmonica said, faking a shiver.

She could feel Zade's gaze on her and she knew he wasn't buying her little act.

But he didn't say anything either. Instead, he nodded defeatedly and followed behind her as they headed for the car.

The next morning came and it came fast.

Just as the doctor had predicted, Rita's eyes fluttered open and she stared at her surrounding, realizing that she was in a hospital.

She looked to her side to see Lucas sitting on a chair while his head rested on the bed that she layed.

'He must have waited the night for me' She thought, smiling as she outlined his facial feautures gently so as not to wake him up.

She pulled the covers off her, and got out of the bed, gently tiptoeing her way out of the VIP room.

After she got out, she decided to get a little fresh air before going back to the room. Her hand still hurt and the area around it had gone stiff.

She headed for the elevators, pressing the button for it to open.

The elevator door opened and just as Rita was trying to get in, her leg bumped into something.

''Watch where you're going!'' She snapped, looking down to see a little kid grunting as the impact of their collision had made his butt hit the cold hard floor.

Tears brimmed at the corner of Zade's eyes as he stared at the mean aunty who was now staring at him in bewilderment.

Rita slapped herself, wondering if she was still asleep or she had actually woken up.

She had just been outlining Lucas's facial structures minutes ago. She could swear that this little boy was like a miniature version of Lucas!

''Rita!'' Rita heard Lucas voice call unto her as he ran through the hallway and stopped in front of her.

The elevator was still opened and the boy was still on the floor.

Rita looked between the both of them, a gasp escaping her lips.
