Chapter 23 - Chapter 23. Protect Zombie World? Locking Monster Effect Activations?

Chapter 23. Protect Zombie World? Locking Monster Effect Activations?

After Bonz's round of explanations in the Duel Monsters world, most people now understood how crucial Doomking Balerdroch is in the Eldlich build.

All at once, they realized how important the Field Spell Zombie World is.

With Zombie World on the field, what follows is a duel that tortures the opponent.

....

In the GX world, Dr. Vellian Crowler was already too numb to speak.

No—looking at it this way, it seems his Ancient Gear Golem wouldn't have such an easy time against Eldlich either.

After all, Ancient Gear Golem only has 3000 ATK.

And he would also be facing the possibility of everything turning into Zombies.

He might break an opposing monster, only for it to refuse to stay dead, and then get cleaned up by Eldlich the Golden Lord afterwards.

But for the sake of face, Dr. Vellian Crowler still coughed a few times and analyzed the "downsides."

"It looks scary on the surface.

"But, students and faculty, think about it—this deck is too reliant on Spells/Traps.

"That Field Spell, Zombie World, right?

"It's a single Field Spell!

"If I deal with that, Doomking Balerdroch becomes useless, doesn't he?

"So don't make it so complicated, okay.

"It's something a single removal spell can destroy."

Crowler's analysis put many duelists into thought.

That's true—if the Field Spell is destroyed, Doomking Balerdroch's impact drops sharply.

"Professor, it's not that simple!

"Look at that monster!

"Necroworld Banshee!

"It seems like it can protect the field!"

Beside him, Syrus Truesdale pointed at the academy's broadcast screen.

And on the screen, sure enough, the next monster card worth considering appeared!

[Card Name: Necroworld Banshee (Level 4)]

[Attribute: DARK]

[Type: Zombie]

[ATK/DEF: 1800/200]

[Effect: You can only use this card's (2) effect once per turn.]

[(1): While this card is in the Monster Zone, "Zombie World" in the Field Zone cannot be destroyed by card effects, and neither player can target that card with card effects.]

[(2): During either player's turn, you can banish this card from your field or GY; activate 1 "Zombie World" directly from your hand or Deck.]

Two simple, easy-to-understand effects.

One provides the ability to protect the Field Spell Zombie World, granting immunity to effect destruction and protection from targeting.

The other provides proactive access by activating Zombie World straight from the Deck.

These two effects left Dr. Vellian Crowler speechless.

This Field Spell—since when did it get a card that can protect it too?

Looked at this way, doesn't that mean the Field Spell's protection is maxed out?

Even if it gets removed, you can use this card to bring the Field back out.

That's ridiculous.

Duelists in the GX world were instantly at a loss for words.

So even a mere Field Spell like Zombie World is this hard to answer now?

Has the world changed?

....

I'll be an Eldlich Master: "Alright, having seen this far, I think the Zombie World Eldlich variant is about done."

I'll be an Eldlich Master: "I believe with this much understanding, everyone has their own grasp of the Eldlich engine."

I'll be an Eldlich Master: "Next, after one more look at a floodgate monster you might include, we're basically done with the monsters you run in Eldlich!"

"This card is—!"

"Inspector Boarder!!!"

[Card Name: Inspector Boarder (Level 4)]

[Attribute: LIGHT]

[Type: Machine]

[ATK/DEF: 2000/2000]

"How to put it?

"If you already control a monster, this card cannot be Normal or Special Summoned.

"But if it does successfully hit the field, while this card remains in the Monster Zone, the number of times each player can activate monster effects per turn is capped at the number of monster card types currently on the field—Ritual, Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, and Link.

"Simply put, the more types there are, the more monster effects you can activate.

"It's effectively a way to lock both players' monster-effect activations.

"After all, at the start, you can't possibly line up that many types, right?

"As for us, we mainly rely on Trap Cards, so we're not worried."

...

After hearing this take on the optional Inspector Boarder tech, duelists felt even more numb.

This Eldlich build really plans to max out floodgates, disruption, and suppression, huh?

There's the earlier locking pieces, plus Inspector Boarder's lock.

Duelists across the six worlds quietly took a deep breath.

If they actually ran into an Eldlich deck in a duel, how much chance would they have?

Would they be mentally crushed?

No.

Maybe they'd just keep summoning their fists to declare attacks.

At least right now, Joey Wheeler in the Duel Monsters world is thinking exactly that.

Joey Wheeler can be said to be one of the least fond of these underworld-style decks.

After hearing the whole monster lineup, Joey's fists were already clenched tight.
