Chapter 24. Underworld Combo Lecture 2! In-Archetype Spells & Traps that Search Like Crazy!
Joey Wheeler's reaction drew the attention of Yugi Muto and the others.
Everyone knew Joey's personality.
Yugi Muto, Téa Gardner, and Tristan Taylor knew it all too well.
He plays fair and square and values loyalty.
It's normal that he wouldn't like a deck this underworld-style.
"Unbelievable!"
"There's actually a deck this perfectly crafted!"
"I like it very much."
"Joey-boy!"
"There's no need to get angry."
"Every Deck has its own traits and advantages."
"The Eldlich build may look underworld-style."
"But if it wants to win, it still has to inflict damage to your Life Points, doesn't it?"
Maximillion Pegasus, who had stayed silent until now, finally gave his view on Eldlich.
Hearing this, Joey calmed down.
Indeed.
Every Deck has its own characteristics.
It's just that Eldlich happens to be like this.
"You're right."
"My Red-Eyes Deck also runs some underworld-style cards."
"Like Magic Cylinder, which is really good."
"Maybe that's just how Dueling is."
Relieved, Joey lifted his head again and looked toward the center of the screen.
...
VRAINS world.
By this point, even Yusaku Fujiki and the others had a hundred different opinions about Eldlich.
Some Duelists felt Eldlich wins dishonorably off those underworld-style cards.
Others felt this is exactly the kind of diverse archetype a flourishing metagame should have.
After all, a one-note metagame breeds formulaic play, then sameness, and finally boredom.
"Yusaku, what do you think of this Eldlich build?"
"Watching up to now—just the monsters alone—the power is already no worse than my Salamangreat."
"At the very least, my Salamangreat versus Eldlich…"
"It's hard to say what the win rate would be."
"..."
Beside him, Theodore Hamilton carefully simulated a match versus Eldlich in his head.
And that was without thinking deeply yet about the Trap and Spell Cards.
Just that much alone already made things tough for him.
"Mm."
"How should I put it?"
"Let's wait and see."
"Let's hear the Spell and Trap explanations before we judge."
"For now, I also think this archetype is quite strong."
Yusaku Fujiki's answer was as expected.
The two of them were of roughly the same mind.
Eldlich is not weak!
...…
I'll be an Eldlich Master: "That's about it for the underworld-style monster combos and small synergies."
I'll be an Eldlich Master: "Of course, if you want to add other support pieces, that's no problem."
I'll be an Eldlich Master: "Next up are the Spell Cards!"
"The opening Deck list already showed it."
"This archetype actually doesn't run many Spells."
"Some Eldlich builds don't even run Zombie World."
"However, the Spells you can be sure to include are these!"
"First is the Continuous Spell, Cursed Eldland!"
"This card's effects are simple and easy to understand."
"Effect 1: a self-restriction—you can only declare attacks with Zombie monsters."
"Effect 2: pay 800 Life Points to activate; add 1 'Eldlich' monster or 1 'Golden Land' Spell/Trap from your Deck to your hand."
"Effect 3: if this card is sent from your Spell & Trap Zone to the Graveyard, send 1 'Eldlich' monster or 1 'Golden Land' Spell/Trap from your Deck to the Graveyard."
"It searches, and when it's sent to the Graveyard it effectively turns into another search!"
"It's a fine in-archetype Spell!"
Indeed!
Just looking at those effects, everyone immediately understood what this card does!
Three copies of Eldlich the Golden Lord in the Deck still yield too low a draw rate.
But once you add this card, doesn't that basically mean you have a fourth Eldlich?
And if Eldlich the Golden Lord is already in hand, then you can just search a "Golden Land" Spell/Trap instead!
That's wild!
A card that, once it's in your hand, will be useful no matter what!
"You think that's all?"
"No!
If you want to put Eldlich the Golden Lord on the field…"
"Besides running Eldlixir of White Destiny to revive from the hand or Graveyard…"
"You can also run this—Eldlixir of Black Awakening!"
[Normal Spell Card: Eldlixir of Black Awakening]
[Effect: Special Summon 1 Zombie monster from your hand or Deck in Defense Position, but if you control no "Eldlich" monsters, you can only Special Summon "Eldlich" monsters with this effect.
For the rest of this turn after this card resolves, you cannot Special Summon monsters, except Zombie monsters.]
[②: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; Set 1 "Golden Land" Spell/Trap directly from your Deck.]
There's even more support?
Even more cards that help you extend?
The Duelists of the six worlds snapped their eyes to this Normal Spell!
And when they combined it with Eldlixir of White Destiny, their understanding of Eldlich climbed another level in a flash!
They'd been wondering this whole time:
Eldlich the Golden Lord discards a Spell/Trap—so how do you make use of those Trap and Spell resources?
Are they just wasted?
Now it's clear!
Here's the answer!
Once those in-archetype Spells/Traps are sent to the Graveyard, you banish them to freely Set "Golden Land" Traps directly from your Deck!
Those discarded Traps and Spells all become the very keys that let Eldlich keep extending!
Realizing that, the Duelists all shuddered!
With that many Traps, it turns out you don't need to worry about not drawing them at all!
Because you can just search and Set them straight from the Deck!
