Chapter 7 - Gossip Spreading Through The Palace

The two continued eating their food forgetting about the interruption from Queen Madeline.

"I want to ask a question, your majesty," Daphne broke the silence, looking at him and he looked up at her, nodding to give her go ahead.

"Why do you get married to so many women?" she asked.

"That is a rather odd question considering many Kings do it," he said. Daphne smiled.

"The highest a king has married in history is ten and it was King Muriel back in the 17th century, no one has married more than that since then, till you came around," she said and Alexandro smiled. She seems to know her history well.

"Nothing wrong with being different," he said and Daphne smiled.

"King Muriel was a tyrant king, he was hated during his time for a lot of reasons which were understandable. But I am never the one to judge without getting to know them, there is a reason why his majesty is taking so many brides and I am curious," she said, not hiding her curiosity.

"Why don't you take a wild lucky guess," he said and Daphne thought about it. He had managed to make this Kingdom great after taking over from his father, it must have been difficult. He would have needed so many resources to achieve this and with a lot of hard work put into it and worse, other kingdoms must have hated him and given him no chance. Daphne sucked in her lips, thinking deeply as he just watched her. Her brows furrowed in concentration, her eyes looking at the table. She was thinking deep and focused. He smiled at her expression, patiently waiting. When she was done, she looked at him.

"According to the rumors I heard, his majesty took over after his father and the kingdom was in crumbles. Taking so many brides from different kingdoms would have helped this kingdom. By marriage, the two kingdoms are already allies and they would have helped with resources and they wouldn't want to declare war on his majesty because their princess is here," she said and he just looked at her. She is truly smart.

"I noticed some of the women are duchesses, his majesty must have chosen them as his bride because their fathers are rich and have many resources to offer his majesty," she said and Alexandro was in awe. She is smart and observant. He smiled, how is the youngest amongst the women the one who is smarter?

"You've said it all," he said and Daphne smiled. That was the reason after all. But why her kingdom? Other kingdoms are more developed and bigger than hers, so why did he choose her?

"But my kingdom is lacking behind in all these things, why did his majesty choose me?" she asked.

"That is a secret her lady won't be able to figure out," he said and Daphne let out a chuckle, sipping her wine. That is fair. They went back to their food which was getting cold, the wine was the only way to keep warm. Daphne kept drinking her wine in silence and soon, her eyes turned and she felt dizzy.

Alexandro smiled at her, the princess has truly never drank before, she has taken just a few sips and she is already drunk. She had droopy eyelids, her neck moving all around but she kept drinking. He allowed her to drink and soon, her head fell flat on the table, her cheeks red. He chuckled, she looks so much like a child with the rosy cheeks and golden hair. He moved his chair closer to hers, bending to look at her face.

"How magnificent," he mumbled, looking at the work of art in front of him. She is beautiful, her beauty can't be compared to none. He placed his hand on her cheeks, rubbing it slowly. Alexandro has no idea what he is doing, he has never looked at a woman this closely, they were all there for his pleasure. But he couldn't help himself, she is so beautiful and he wanted to kiss her red cherry lips but he would keep that for later. He smiled, putting her hair behind her ears.

She needs to be in her room before she catches a cold. And with that, he carried her up in a bridal style, gently adjusting her head on his chest. She weighed as light as a father, her skin soft with her scent going into his nose. He can't help but find everything about her beautiful. Alexandro heads to her chambers in the silent night unaware of the eyes watching them.

He got to her chambers and he found her servants sleeping on the chair. They must have been waiting for her. Immediately he came in, they flinched awake.

"My lady," Agnes mumbled but her eyes widened as she saw the king. They quickly bowed their heads.

"Your majesty," they said. He ignored them, going into her room. He has never been to any of his queen's chambers. What is he doing? Right now, Alexandro has no idea what he is doing, all he wants to do right now is to tuck her into the bed and he did just that. He watched as she slept soundly, even in her sleep she looked beautiful. He bent down, kissing her hands softly then he left the room.

"Her lady is not to be disturbed. When she wakes up, prepare hangover soup for her," he instructed and bowed their heads.

"Yes, your majesty," they replied. Alexandro left her chambers deciding he needs to sleep, he is quite tipsy himself. He had no idea his small show of affection was going to cause a ruckus in the palace the next morning.
