Chapter 18 - The Aftermath

"Hey, what's the big deal, Peter? Judging by your voice, you're pretty young, right?" Ant-Man continued to pry for information.

Peter ignored him.

His heightened senses allowed him to notice an explosion in the distance, high in the sky.

A black dot was plummeting toward the ground.

There were only four combatants in the aerial battle.

First, the Quinjet piloted by Captain America and Winter Soldier.

Second, Iron Man. Third, War Machine. And fourth, Falcon.

Who got hit?

From that kind of fall from high altitude, he... Peter stared blankly over there.

Ant-Man finished speaking, but found that Peter hadn't responded.

He followed Peter's gaze into the distance, but as an ordinary person without equipment, he couldn't see that far.

"What's wrong, Peter?"

Peter said, "Someone was hit."

Ant-Man was stunned, and his expression also became serious: "Something big happened."

A short while later, Peter received a call from Iron Man.

In the phone call, Iron Man told him that Rhodey's Iron Armor had been hit in its energy supply and had fallen from a height of a thousand meters. They were now sending Rhodey to the hospital for emergency treatment.

As for Peter's arrangements, he told Peter to go back to the hotel and find Happy. After everything was over, he would have Happy take him back to Queens.

In the meantime, he could also take some time to explore Berlin.

Of course, Ant-Man wasn't so lucky.

As a "war criminal," he would be extradited back to the US with Falcon to face trial.

Peter, who had a soft spot for this talkative guy, was worried about his future.

Ant-Man, on the other hand, didn't seem to care.

He said that he was a criminal before anyway, and now that he was involved in the battle of superheroes, he accepted the trial.

At least the reason for this trial was much more high-minded than before.

Well, this guy is just a born optimist.

Peter went back to the hotel first, took a shower, changed his clothes, and then greeted Happy.

Happy then took him to the hospital where Iron Man and the others were.

When they arrived, Rhodey was already in the emergency room, and Peter only saw Iron Man and Black Widow.

They seemed to have just had a fight.

As Black Widow passed them, Happy greeted her, but Black Widow just glanced at him and left without looking back.

"Mr. Stark, your hand..." Peter asked, walking over to Iron Man.

And Happy was sent by Iron Man to buy something, obviously, there were some things he might want to say to Peter alone.

Iron Man gestured, "It's nothing, just a slight sprain, it'll be fine soon."

"Then, Colonel Rhodey..."

Iron Man glanced at him, forcing a smile onto his bitter face, "The doctor says he has a comminuted fracture of the lumbar and sacral vertebrae, and a severe tear in his spinal cord. He'll likely be paralyzed."

Peter's expression darkened.

"Being a superhero, as the world knows it, might come at such a price. Are you scared?" Iron Man asked, looking at Peter.

Peter shook his head, "The world has light and darkness. While people live in the light, there are those who must lurk in the shadows."

Iron Man was slightly taken aback, his gaze changing as he looked at him.

Then, he burst into laughter, reaching out to mess up Peter's hair, "You little punk, you're not that old, where did you get such a strong sense of responsibility?"

Peter shook his head vigorously, escaping Iron Man's grasp, "I'm serious!"

"Ha~" Iron Man retracted his hand, propping himself on the railing, his gaze fixed on the distance. "It's good that you think like that, but remember, don't let the darkness consume you."

Peter nodded, remaining silent.

Beep beep.

A message popped up on the smart watch on Iron Man's wrist, displaying a video sent by the Berlin police.

He glanced at it briefly, then covered the watch, blocking Peter's curiosity.

"Mr. Stark, is there anything you need me to do?"

Iron Man shook his head. "No, you've done enough. You can take a walk around Berlin. I'll take you back with me after I'm done dealing with these things."

"Alright," Peter said, lowering his head, a little disappointed.

Iron Man patted his shoulder. "Alright, go back and get some rest."

After Peter turned to leave, Iron Man watched his back and muttered, "With us old timers around, it's not your turn to be the dark knight."

After saying that, he glanced at the information on his watch again and said to Friday, "Get me a helicopter, I need to go to The Raft."

"Yes, sir."

When Happy returned after buying the things, Peter went back to the hotel with him.

However, he didn't go around Berlin to play as Iron Man had said, but instead recalled the battle, learning from the experience.

Although this time wasn't really a fight, except for the accident that caused War Machine to fall, there wasn't much actual damage on either side.

But there was still a lot of combat experience.

The combat experience of fighting against superheroes still had a big impact on him.

He had gained a lot.

And his record wasn't bad either, barely living up to the expensive Super Suit Iron Man had given him.

But he felt there were still some areas for improvement with the suit, or rather, some things he hadn't discovered yet.

He hadn't had time to study it thoroughly before, but now he did. He decided to give it a good look.

Soon, he found a switch on the suit.

"Hey, Peter, are you going to start training today?" A voice suddenly rang out.

"Huh?" Peter looked around. "Who are you?"

"I'm the artificial intelligence butler of your Spider Suit. I don't have a name yet, maybe you could help me with that." The voice said.

"AI butler! You mean, like Mr. Stark's Jarvis?" Peter asked, excited.

"You could say that," the AI butler replied.

"Okay, okay, um, for a name... How about Karen?" Peter suggested.

"Yes, you can call me Karen, if that pleases you," Karen said.

Peter said, "Hey Karen, what other functions does this suit have?"

Karen said, "There is a training protocol within the suit. You can set up a reasonable training plan for yourself, which will allow you to become familiar with all the functions of this suit sooner."

"Training protocol? Uh, actually, I'm more curious about what all the specific functions are." Peter said.

"You can learn about them gradually during the training," Karen replied.

"Alright, alright, then I want to learn how to shoot webs first."

"Okay, I've switched to the web-shooter combination function for you. There are a total of 576 scientific web-shooting combination modes. Which one do you want to learn first?"

"Huh???"
