Nug was half-orc and half-human; it was obvious when he ventured off from the village. Even more so when he looked at his four fingers, they didn't even bother to say goodbye properly. They needed help, and that was it. They would even take from someone like him.
He ventured off into the forest to search for wood to build something within the village. He wasn't sure what type of wood it would take, but the quest indicated that it would require something around a D grade. A D grade level of wood was necessary to construct this new set of houses. Winter was coming, and he was sure the current buildings wouldn't hold up.
Nug himself wasn't sure of his skill and ability. It had been a while since he was in the boys' army, where he used to build all types of structures: houses, forts, bridges, you name it. He was good at it. Ever since Twilight, Nug had found no need or hunger for work. This opportunity presented itself, and Nug jumped at the chance, not just to do it, but to get back in the swing of things.
Even as he journeyed, these thoughts lingered in his mind. Would he even be good at this? Would he know what to get? The better material he was looking for lay deeper in the forest, so much so that he questioned his level.
Being a level 1 Green Ranger was good in some respects. He could traverse woodland and mountains with ease. Even here, his feet were light across the bracken. Ever since Twilight, his level was lowered back to 1. That did him no favors. Losing the boy's army, and his leader. He pushed forward.
Would he be strong enough to defeat the monsters to get to the wood and safely return to the village? He was by himself, with his sword, his shell, and his wits. His Orc side told him that he could, but his human side said that he couldn't. This caused him to meander a bit, walking around and searching for things. He was avoiding the inevitable battle that was coming, the fights that would happen. He was scared, and he wouldn't even admit it to himself.
But he ventured in, maybe by courage or by luck; somehow, he made it deeper into the forest. That's when he heard noises. That's when he heard sounds. That's when he heard people. Something was happening here, and he was just about to fall into the center of it.
The first person he saw was a young Asian boy. He could smell the half-blood, but he couldn't see him. He was trying to rescue some people. He was quite sure of that. Maybe he wasn't sure, but for whatever reason, he found himself following the scent, fighting, swinging, battling whatever he could to the best of his abilities. Level ones, level twos, whatever these monsters were, they were part of a bigger monster. He wasn't quite sure where it started or where it began. He was just swinging, looking for help, looking for people, looking to save anyone he could.
Then he appeared. It said Daku appeared. That's what it did. It said Daku appeared. That's what his magi said, a book that recorded everything. Daku appeared. With this in mind, he looked at Daku, the Asian boy, who he knew had half-orc blood. He called out to him and spoke in the orcish language. Daku didn't seem to understand.
"I don't speak that, man," he said.
"Really? You don't speak Orc? You're half-orc," Nug told him.
"Yeah, but I don't speak that."
Then he got hit. A wooden branch smacked him so hard that he fell off the ledge he was on. Nug went to save him and found himself in a pile of corpses. The boy was alive, but the rest weren't. So he took the boy and ran. But he ran deeper into the forest instead of heading toward the exit. He kept running until he saw it: a massive moving figure. It was a rogue apparition. Then the muses said
Tree Monster A appears
