Chapter 1 - chapter 1: Death

" May the lord bless us , "

" God be with you ," the priest said putting his hands on her head. She stood up.

" Mother, why do we worship something that doesn't exist ?"

" Shush! God is every where, you just have to believe,"

" But I do not feel it , " he said looking at the decapitated church. He could still breath of fumes in the air. The muffled cries of believers

.

The woman looked at him and smiled sadly, " God is around us , it's just our destiny ,he is waiting. "

" Then I do not want this God, we have been forsaken, mother," she slapped him hard, his head turning to the side. His mouth filled with blood.

" You cannot talk about God like that ," she said with a harsh whisper her eyes full of obsession . This was poison that ate them slowly but none of them noticed.

Faith they called, belief they called it but all he saw a twisted obsession poisonous but too sweet to stop, given to the blind in the name of savings and religion. A way of control just masked in sweet nothings.

He looked at his mother's gaunt face from starvation. The people around him worshipping the so called Gods that seemed to only get the good credits. If this was what God predetermined then he forsakes God.

He looked at the bright light that covered the sky through the church Broken window as it approached rapidly. Wars a creation of the very God's.

....

" There will be five tests to determine who will join the sect, there are only three rules," the man looked at the seventeen year old teens standing Infront of him," survive, kill or be killed. That's it ,"

Alistair looked around him , some teens were shaking , others looked dead on there feet while the weird ones like himself were not even caring and there were the excited ones that though this as an opportunity.

He remembered his last moments on the war torn earth. World war three had just sparked out of nowhere and countries threw nuclear bombs like candies at each other. Him and his mother had been hiding in there local church just praying to the Gods that seemed to mock them their misery. Then the explosion happened. He'd died at eighteen barely an adult.

He woke up in this body while they were being transported to this testing ground. This was a test for those who wanted to join the demonic sect. The original owner had been picked just to fill in the numbers. A beggar taken from the streets after falling Infront of the truck that transported the teens.

From the memories he knew he was in a modern cultivation world. Here the strong ruled. People got strong through different methods. He had been taken by the one of the many demonic sects . They were hated and viewed as parasites by most of the world due to their cruelty. He had been lucky to not be run over by their truck and had been taken instead to fill in the numbers. There were laws like the former earth but it only applies for the weak .

The man picked a round metallic ball and waved it Infront of them," there are four hundred balls in this field, you just have to get one and bring it in a thirty minutes time," he showed them the large clock ticking," when the alarm rings, anyone who has not submitted a ball will be eliminated," everyone knew what an elimination meant, death.

Some of the children started to cry not all of them had come here voluntarily, some were sold by there parents or depts. But most of them came there by choice.

" Start," he shouted as a bell rang .

Alistair looked behind him at the field, it was pitch black with only small dim lighting scattered around. This was truly meant to eliminate as many as possible. He could not see what was around except for small rocks here and there and the sound of a stream from a far.

He looked as the other children started to ran towards the small stream . He could hear splashing as they moved around the water. He walked towards the edge of the stream and looked as they ran around searching for the metallic balls.

He could see the others looking around at them on land moving rocks and dirt. Blood started to flowing from their fingers as they moved the rocks around. Some looked at him weirdly while pointing. He watched as they became frustrated clock ticking loudly in the background.

" That one's is not moving at all," one of the men wearing a red suit said pointing at Alistair.

" probably scared and has given hope," a blue haired one chimed in laughing," there are always those kind," he pointed at others who had sat down just staring out blankly.

Alistair looked on his eyes blankly staring wondering just how scared of death were they for them to do this to themselves.

To him death meant salvation, but I didn't mean that he wanted to die, but if it came knocking he would welcome it with open hands. He had already experience it once .

" I found it," a girl shouted as she held the ball high . Stupid .It glimmered it reflected light. Most of the children stopped and looked at her. She noticed this and hurriedly hid it in her pocket. She started to walk towards the presentation desk.

" Give it," Alistair said cutting her in the middle.

" No you go look for yours you loser " she said trying to walk around her.

Alistair looked behind her as some of the others started to walk towards them.

" This is your last chance give it to me or I'll take it by force," he said again smiling at her his eyes blank.

" no I said go find yours you son of bitch," she said again trying to force her way through. Alistair tried to snatch it but she was faster she swallowed it then looked at him challengingly.

He punched her right in her stomach, spit and bile flew from her mouth as she looked at him in shock. Her scream tore through the air as she fell on the ground coiling inwards holding her stomach . But she didn't vomit it.

" Give it to me," he said again. He stepped right on her stomach and pressed hard. This time she was silent her mouth closed looking up at him with venom in her eyes . He picked a large rock and hit her on the head, blood splattered every where, he didn't care and continued hitting her until her struggles stopped.

Everyone was now looking at him in horror. He didn't stop there he looked around and picked a sharp rock and stabbed her in the stomach area. He stabbed a few times until he created a hole. He put his hand into her body and pulled out the metallic ball blood still dripping.

Alistair looked as a small translucent light flew out of her body hanging Infront of him. He looked around trying to see if the others saw what he saw but he got no reaction.

Ding!

Something sounded in his mind. A small translucent black screen with red writings appeared Infront of her

Alistair looked at the translucent light so this was a soul. He touched it and held it in his hands. It felt solid but still mailable. He put it in his mouth. It melted the moment it touched his tongue. He felt something painful slithering into his body , he didn't scream but continued feeling as it slithered in his body.

He could fill himself growing stronger as his muscles rearrange themselves absorbing the power in the soul. He flexed his arm and could feel the power, so just by killing I could get stronger he thought with a smile. He looked at the other contestants.

[ You have absorbed one soul, reward 10 unattributed points and a 5 cubic system storage space]

He laughed out loud at that. He had really hit the jackpot.

He looked at her body one last time then turned and walked towards the desk.

The other ones who had wanted to take the ball from the girl looked at him and went beck into the river to search for it.

" The first one has presented the ball," one guy in the red suit said as he took the blood covered ball presented by him. Alistair sat on the ground as he looked at his hands. It had been the first time to kill, he didn't feel a thing. He had been Soo used to death that killing didn't get any reaction from him.

" Look he found one," a girl shouted pointing at a boy with purple hair. He looked around him nervously, the previous incident flashing in his mind.

He bolted for the platform, some who were in the water ran after him.
