Chapter 1 - Alex Song

"THIS IS JUST IN! THE CATEGORY FOUR WALKER HAS PUSHED THROUGH THE FIRST LINE OF DEFENSE!!" The news anchor held a button on her earpiece as she reported the events to the public.

"OVER TO OUR FIELD CORRESPONDENT FOR A LIVE VIEW." The screen went static before showing a live feed from what seemed to be a helicopter.

A giant, six-armed humanoid creature with rock-like skin seemed to stroll on the ground, but its speed was an illusion. It was covering kilometers with each step, but its large size made the distance seem small.

The camera faced a young, petite woman.

"As you can see, the walker is steadily approaching the West Coast of Great Eulon City. Oh and what's that?!!" The camera faced a small but quickly approaching object.

Thunderous booms echoed in the sky as it broke the sound barrier multiple times since its short appearance on screen.

Large, golden electric arcs left the object and struck the Titan square in its chest. The thing stumbled but regained its footing, swinging its arms with enough force to flatten cities.

The object collided with the arm and a bright flash blinded the camera. By the time it died down, the body of the Titan was falling lifelessly with a large hole in its chest that released a dense pillar of smoke, its arm knocked aside and detached from its body.

The camera zoomed in on the object, revealing it to be a middle-aged man with dark brown hair and golden eyes in a four-piece suit made of what appeared to be the finest materials.

Shockwaves shook and decimated the land below as the Titan fell but the man wasn't there for it, having flown away as quickly as he arrived.

"The walker has been taken down by none other than Blessing Of The Sky, 'The Thunder god', and in less than a minute as well! Back to the station." The news anchor took over and started commenting on new protocols to be considered for other walkers.

"Alexander Song, put down that phone!" A mean, old voice snapped Alex out of his awe-struck stupor and he looked up. The entire class was staring at him.

He cursed in his mind, 'Shit! I was so focused on the news report that I totally zoned out and forgot to pretend that I was listening.'

"Mr. T, you gotta excuse him. His parents are far too poor to avoid a beast art so he's obsessed with watching legends with beast arts." Tony, a tall blonde boy, remarked and the rest of the class laughed.

Alex scoffed.

"I'm sure your beast art is a starfish. Otherwise, how could you be so dumb?" At his counter, Tony slammed his palms into his table and stood up.

Mr. Tyson(Mr. T) tapped on the smart board with his hand to get their attention, "The only fighting in this classroom will be for first place during the exams. Is. That. Clear?" Alex and Toby nodded before the latter sat down.

Mr. Tyson turned to Alex, "I'll let it go this time, but don't use your phone in any of my classes again, otherwise I'll be forced to seize it and punish you." Alex hummed a yes before putting his phone away.

As soon as he started teaching again, Alex zoned out and started replaying the video on repeat in his head. He had seen next to nothing of the actual fight but the idea of it filled him with joy and excitement.

'If only I had money to afford a beast art!!' He mentally groaned and glared at Tony whose parents were rich enough to get him a beast art. He was forbidden by the rules to use it during the school hours but Alex knew.

"Song! What did I just say?" Mr. Tyson spat at him and he smirked defiantly,

"What did I just say." He repeated with a broad smile on his face but unlike the rest of the class that laughed, Mr. Tyson didn't find it funny. Veins bulged on the old man's forehead and Alex chuckled nervously.

After school was over, Alex was still in the same classroom pouting and groaning every chance he got.

The doors to the classroom opened and Tony entered with Mr. Tyson, "I have your detention playmate here for you." He laughed and walked out, locking the door behind him.

Tony collapsed on a chair as far from Alex as possible, "Let me guess you're here because you couldn't keep your tongue in your mouth." Alex teased.

"Shut up, Song." He retorted before going silent.

An hour which felt like an eternity ticked away at a snail's pace, "What the hell? Is this classroom distorting time?!" Alex cried out and slammed his head onto his desk.

Tony stood and walked towards the door. He closed his eyes and sat cross-legged on the floor. He placed his hand on the door and it unlocked with a click.

'He is using his beast art!!' Alex cursed silently.

The bastard turned to look at Alex with a condescending smirk before leaving and locking the door once more behind him.

"No fair! Why does he get to cheat and leave detention?! I mean… he shouldn't leave detention, it's wrong." No matter how much Alex complained, he couldn't change anything.

Another hour crawled by, and the door opened again, and Toby walked in with a lipstick stain on his face, 'Typical.'

As soon as he sat, Mr. Tyson entered and looked at both of them with suspicion, "I thought I locked this door." He challenged them.

Tony shrugged but Alex was tempted to snitch yet decided otherwise, "You didn't lock it." He lied through his teeth.

After a few minutes of scolding, he let them go.

The two didn't talk as they left the school premises, heading to their respective homes.

Alex looked around as he walked down the familiar road, leaving the main town for the less developed outskirts surrounding it. He only attended his current school because of a scholarship.

There were a few things that Alex prided himself on, and his intelligence was one of them. Amidst his pathological trouble-making, his intelligence wasn't primarily noticed as a first impression.

A speeding car moving on the opposite lane from where he was suddenly swerved at him. Alex barely avoided the vehicle, cursing the driver.

"Fuck you!" The driver's door opened, and a man wearing a suit came out, holding a briefcase in his hand, and ran to Alex. The latter realized that the road was quite secluded, it was perfect for a kidnapping.

'Why would he kidnap me with a briefcase?! He's a psycho!!!' Alex tried to sprint, but before he could, the man threw something at Alex, and it hit him square in the chest, knocking the wind out of his lungs.

He stumbled and fell down the short hill beside the road. Stone, dirt, and pebbles scraped and bruised Alex's skin badly before he managed to come to a stop.

Despite the fall, he could still make out the roof of the car and the man, "Get that briefcase to the IOA!!" He screamed before entering his car and speeding off.

Before he could move even 200 meters, a large sphere of flames descended from the sky and enveloped the car, incinerating it and its contents in less than a second.
