Being hunted by celestial assassins was stressful enough, but Asteria hadn't expected Kael to also be a menace in the kitchen.

"This," she said, staring at the smoking cauldron, "is not soup."

Kael crossed his arms proudly. "It's Moon Prince Stew. A royal recipe."

"It's glowing."

"That means it's fresh."

"It's trying to crawl out of the pot."

"That means it's very fresh."

Asteria grabbed a broom and forced the bubbling creature back into submission. "We're ordering vegetables from the market next time. No more alien cooking."

Kael looked genuinely wounded. "But I wanted to contribute."

"You can contribute by not poisoning us."

Despite their daily disasters, they were becoming an oddly effective team—Kael with his celestial instincts, Asteria with her unpredictable magic, and her dragon-cat Puff providing emotional support and occasional arson.

But peace was temporary.

On the third night, the silver sky cracked open like shattered glass. A whispering wind swept through Asteria's cottage, carrying a message only Kael could hear.

His face paled. "They found me."

Before she could ask who they were, three figures appeared in the courtyard—cloaked, moonlit, and very much not friendly. Celestial assassins. Again.

Asteria shoved Kael behind her. "Stay back, Your Mooniness."

"I can fight!"

"You can't even cook!"

The assassins lunged. Asteria raised her hands, hoping her magic wouldn't explode in her face—again. Instead, a burst of silver fire shot forward, spiraling like a comet. It struck the courtyard, blasting all three attackers backward.

Kael stared at her as if she'd grown wings. "Asteria, that was ancient magic… stronger than anything in the Moon Court."

"I just got scared and thought about my exploding curtains."

"That explains nothing!"

But the assassins weren't defeated—they regrouped, their eyes glowing like cold stars.

"The prince must return," one hissed. "The prophecy demands it."

Asteria's stomach dropped. Prophecy? That was never good in a fantasy world.

Kael stepped forward, voice steady. "I'm not going anywhere without her."

Her heart skipped. Again. Very inconvenient.

And just like that, the war between fate, magic, and reckless affection truly began.
