Traveling to the Moon Court sounded majestic in theory.
In practice, it was Asteria clinging to Kael's arm while being sucked into a glowing portal that felt like a cosmic vacuum cleaner.
"Is it supposed to feel like this?!" she yelled.
Kael, hair flapping wildly, shouted back, "Like what?!"
"Like I'm being blended!"
"That means it's working!"
They landed with all the grace of falling potatoes.
Asteria groaned as she peeled herself off the marble floor. "Next time, we take a bus."
Kael looked confused. "What is a bus?"
"A magical vehicle that does not throw you through space like laundry."
Before she could regain her dignity, Puff emerged from the portal behind them like a fuzzy missile and crashed into her head.
Then Asteria finally saw it—the Moon Court.
Glittering towers of silver crystal spiraled into an endless twilight sky. Floating gardens drifted in slow, elegant circles. Moonlight rivers flowed through the air like glowing ribbons. It was breathtaking.
Until an elderly moon noble shrieked, "THE PRINCE HAS RETURNED WITH A WOMAN!"
Asteria froze. "Oh no."
Kael whispered, "Oh yes."
Suddenly, an entire welcoming committee stormed forward—advisors, guards, scholars, and one overly emotional aunt who hugged Kael so tightly he nearly suffocated.
Then all eyes turned to Asteria.
"She is the Starweaver?"
"That can't be right."
"She looks… completely normal."
Asteria put her hands on her hips. "Excuse you. I am aggressively magical and moderately dangerous."
One scholar squinted at her. "Can you demonstrate your power?"
Asteria panicked. Demonstrations usually ended with property damage.
She waved her hand gently, hoping for a cute spark.
Instead, a massive explosion of silver fire shot out, vaporizing an entire courtyard fountain.
Gasps filled the palace.
Puff meowed proudly.
Kael whispered, "Perfect. Very subtle."
The royal advisors huddled together, whispering frantically.
"She has ancient power!"
"She almost destroyed the east wing!"
"She must be trained before she blows up the kingdom!"
Kael leaned toward Asteria. "Don't worry. I'll help you."
Asteria sighed. "Kael, you can't even help yourself."
But as he took her hand, she felt something steady—something real.
And fate, watching from above, smiled.
The Moon Court had no idea what chaos had just arrived.
