Chapter 14 - Bonds and Secrets

_Mia's days at Academia Umbra blurred into nights of studying shadows and whispers. The air pulsed with magic, and the students, a mix of witches, _Vrykolakas_ (vampires), and _Lylahpers_ (werewolves), kept to their own circles—until the monthly feast. In a forest clearing, moonlight filtered through leaves, casting silver shards on the ground. The scent of spiced wine and roasted meats mingled, and for a night, the tensions between tribes seemed to soften._

Kai, the _Lylahper_ with a reckless grin, slid beside Mia, snapping nuts between sharp teeth. "You're an Alden, right? Heard you're… different." Amara, the _Vrykolakas_ with eyes like polished onyx, joined, her voice a low melody. "Tribrid, they say. Born of witch, wolf, and vampire lines. That's rare."

Mia's pulse skipped. "What does that mean?"

Professor Elara, sipping a spiced drink, leaned in, her silver hair catching the moon. "The Aldens were *Covenants*, a tribrid bloodline tasked with bridging the races. Your ancestors bound themselves to balance the tides—keeping witches, vampires, werewolves from unraveling the planes. You're a keystone, Mia, a thread weaving us all."

Kai's ears perked. "No wonder you've got echoes buzzing. You're the missing piece."

Amara's gaze sharpened. "The Michelson Blood wants you. They're an old organization, sworn to 'purify' the lines. They see tribrids as abominations, a threat to their control. And they want the *First Witch's Star*."

Mia's mind flashed to the Archives, a passage she'd read in the _Chronicle of Origins_:

_The First Witch, Aetheria, bound the planes with a star-shaped key, embedding its power in the Alden line. To shatter the Ordalia's pact, one must claim the Star._

Elara's voice dropped. "The Star amplifies the reset's power. If the Michelsons take it through you, they'd sever the balance. The shadows would bleed into the mortal world… and consume it."

As they spoke, the shadows in the trees seemed to creep closer. A hooded figure slipped into the darkness, whispering something to Amara. Her eyes flicked to Mia, a flicker of warning there.

"They're watching you, Mia. The Michelsons don't just hunt—they erase. Want to get closer to you before striking."

Kai leaned in, a low growl in his throat. "We've got your back. No erasing here."

The night pulsed with tension. Mia touched the lunar crescent charm on her neck, feeling its steady beat. "What do I do?"

Elara smiled softly. "Learn to wield your threads. Protect the Star. And trust… your Covenants."
